Chapter 523 Is There Some Misunderstanding?
Leo lowered his gaze, a flash of hatred in his eyes.
As long as Ayla took Jerold away, he would have no more worries.
Seb had caused him so much pain, and he would not let him get away with it!
After leaving the police station, Ayla immediately instructed her assistant to handle Jerold's travel documents and bought tickets for a flight the next morning.
When she got home, Carol had already brought Jerold back.
Seeing Ayla, Jerold immediately ran into her arms. "Mom!"
Ayla patted his head and said, "Jerold, how about we go have dinner with your grandparents later?"
Jerold looked up at her cautiously. "Mom, are you going to send me back to Dad's place again? I don't want to go to Dad's."
"Don't worry, you won't have to. From now on, you'll stay with me."
Jerold was initially happy, but then his face fell. "What about Dad? Won't he be with us?"
Ayla's smile faded a bit as she looked at Jerold. "No, your dad and I have separated. Now you have to choose between staying with me or with him."
If Jerold chose to stay with Leo, she wouldn't take him away.
Seeing Ayla's anger, Jerold's face turned pale. During their divorce, he had learned to read people's expressions and knew that saying he wanted to stay with Leo or wishing for them to be a family again would only make Ayla angry.
He clenched his small fists and looked at Ayla carefully. "Mom, I want to stay with you. Is that okay?"
Ayla's lips curved into a smile as she patted his head. "Of course! Now, let Carol take you upstairs for a bath, and then we'll go to your grandparents', okay?"
"Okay."
After Carol took Jerold upstairs, Ayla took out her phone and called Hazel.
"Mom, I'm bringing Jerold over for dinner later. I have something to discuss with you."
Around noon, Ayla arrived at Hazel's house with Jerold.
Seeing Jerold, Hazel frowned. "Wasn't he already given to Leo? Why did you bring him back?"
As a mother, she didn't want Ayla to be burdened with Jerold. The child would only hold her back.
Jerold sensed Hazel's unusual attitude towards him and shrank behind Ayla's wheelchair, looking at Hazel cautiously.
Ayla turned and gently patted his head. "Go play in the garden for a bit. Mom needs to talk to Grandma."
Jerold didn't move, his eyes filled with fear.
He was afraid Ayla would send him back to that cold villa. He hadn't seen Leo in days.
Seeing his fear, Ayla's voice softened. "Don't worry, Mom won't abandon you. Go play, and I'll call you for dinner later."
"Okay." Reluctantly, Jerold left.
Once he was out of sight, Ayla looked up at Hazel.
"Mom, Jerold is my son. If Leo gets sentenced, who else will take care of him if not me?"
"But have you thought about your age? If you have a child with you, what good man would want you?"
Ayla was about to go abroad, and taking a child alone would only make things harder.
"If I don't take him, should I just let him fend for himself?"
Hazel sighed. Jerold was her grandson, and she wanted the best for him, but not at the cost of her daughter's future happiness.
"I don't mean that, but I can't agree with you taking him abroad. If necessary, leave him here, and your father and I will take care of him."
Ayla immediately refused. "No, I've already arranged his travel documents. We're leaving on tomorrow's flight. I won't leave him here."
Once Garry and Damon found out she sold the Bridges Group shares to Seb, they would be furious. If she wasn't in the country, Jerold would become their target.
As for her parents, Garry wouldn't harm his own son and daughter-in-law, and Damon wouldn't dare either.
Hazel's face turned pale with anger. "Why won't you listen? I'm doing this for your own good!"
"Mom, I can make my own decisions. Besides, Leo left a lot of money for Jerold. He won't be a burden."
Mentioning Leo made Hazel even angrier. If it weren't for him, Ayla wouldn't be in this situation.
But it was too late to change anything now.
"If you insist on taking him, I can't stop you. But you better be prepared for the hardships ahead."
Ayla was getting impatient. "Mom, don't worry. No matter how tough it gets, I won't complain to you."
"I'm not worried about you complaining. I'm worried you'll regret it!"
"We'll deal with that later. I don't want to think about it now."
As they spoke, Ayla's father, Braylon Bridges, came out of his study.
Seeing their tense faces, he frowned. "What's going on? Ayla rarely visits, and now you're arguing?"
Hazel turned away coldly, not speaking.
Ayla looked at Braylon. "It's nothing, Dad. I just came to tell you that I've booked a flight for tomorrow morning."
Braylon's expression changed. "Why the rush?"
Ayla was about to explain when they heard hurried footsteps at the door.
They turned to see Garry and Damon walking in with dark expressions.
Braylon was surprised. "Dad, what brings you here?"
Garry usually called them over if there was something important, not visit them directly.
Damon sneered. "Ask your good daughter!"
He glared at Ayla. "Ayla, you sold the Bridges Group shares to Seb? Are you out of your mind?"
Ayla hadn't expected them to find out so quickly. Her face darkened.
Braylon and Hazel looked at Ayla in disbelief, unable to comprehend what they were hearing.
"Ayla, what does Damon mean? Is there some misunderstanding?"
How could Ayla sell her shares to Seb?
Even though the Bridges Group and Silvercrest Group were partners, they were still competitors.
With 10% of the Bridges Group shares, Seb wouldn't settle for being a minor shareholder.
"Misunderstanding?"
Damon sneered. "Ask her yourself if it's a misunderstanding!"
