Chapter 620 You Seem to Have Never Put Me on an Equal Footing
"It's true, Ms. Lee. Let's start with your statement."
Sophie was supposed to give a statement, but she had fainted during dinner and remembered nothing. The police only asked about her meeting with Saul.
During the questioning, Sophie learned that Saul had planned to kidnap her today, and he actually did.
After finishing the statement, the officer said, "Ms. Lee, thanks for your cooperation. You can go home now and wait for further updates."
Sophie nodded, "Alright, thank you."
As she walked out of the room, Randy, who had been waiting nearby, immediately approached her.
"Sophie, let's go home."
Sophie looked at Randy, "Randy, I want to see Saul."
She wanted to know why he had kidnapped her and then called the police.
Randy frowned, "Sophie, you should already know that Saul and Electra are half-siblings. He approached you with a purpose from the start. What's the point of seeing him now?"
"I want to ask him why he chose to kidnap me, but then called the police."
"Does it matter? The fact is, he wanted to harm you. Why do you still want to see him?"
"It's important to me."
Randy took a deep breath."Fine, go ahead. I'll wait outside."
He turned and walked away, his back radiating anger.
Ten minutes later, Sophie got her wish and saw Saul.
Seeing her, Saul smiled.
"Sophie, I didn't expect you'd want to see me again."
Sophie sat across from him, her face expressionless. "Why did you call the police?"
"Because I regretted kidnapping you halfway through. I didn't want to spend my life in prison, so I called the police."
"You're lying. You never intended to follow Electra's orders to kidnap me, did you?"
Saul's smile froze. "Sophie, you're overthinking. I really just regretted it halfway through."
Sophie lowered her gaze and after a long pause, said slowly, "Then let's say I overthought it."
She didn't ask anything else and got up to leave.
As Sophie turned away, Saul's smile faded, his eyes fixed on her back, full of reluctance.
He had never intended to kidnap her. Drugging her was just to make Electra's order to kidnap Sophie seem real.
The Ross family had considerable influence in Metropolis, but compared to the Smith Group and the Lee Group, they were much weaker.
As long as the Smith Group and the Lee Group pressured together, Electra would be sentenced.
This way, Sophie would be safe.
This was the only thing he could do for Sophie.
Meanwhile, Sophie walked out of the police station and saw Randy leaning against the car, smoking. Her eyes flashed, and she quickly walked towards him.
Hearing footsteps, Randy looked up. "Done?"
He extinguished his cigarette and threw it into the nearby trash can.
"Randy, there's something I want to explain to you."
"Get in the car."
Randy opened the back door and got in.
Sensing his coldness, Sophie pursed her lips.
As soon as she got in, Randy instructed the driver to start the car.
"Randy, I met with Saul tonight because..."
"You don't need to explain. It's your personal matter, and I trust there's nothing between you two."
Sophie took a deep breath and looked at him, "But the way you're acting now doesn't seem like you're not angry. I just want to explain clearly so we don't have any misunderstandings because of this."
"If you didn't want any misunderstandings, you wouldn't have gone to see him today, especially without telling me."
Seeing Randy's angry eyes, Sophie nodded, "I admit, I shouldn't have kept this from you. But he invited me to dinner to thank me for covering his mom's medical expenses. He wanted me to invite you too, but you were on a business trip, so I didn't tell you."
Randy sneered, "Is it because I was on a business trip, or did you never intend to tell me?"
Sophie frowned, "Randy, can you stop being so sarcastic? You were on a business trip. If I had told you, you would have overthought it, so I didn't."
"So, I should thank you for considering my feelings, right?"
"If you're going to keep being sarcastic, we can't talk. Dax, please stop the car at the next intersection. I'll take a cab home."
Dax looked troubled and glanced at Randy, "Mr. Smith."
Randy's face was cold. "Dax, keep driving. Don't stop."
"Randy, I said I want to get out. Don't you understand?"
"Do you know what time it is?"
Sophie was furious, "The time doesn't matter. I don't want to be in the same space as you right now."
She just wanted Randy to disappear from her sight immediately. Seeing him made her angry.
"Don't worry, we'll be at your place in ten minutes. Then you can get out, and I won't stop you."
"I don't want to wait a minute."
Randy didn't say anything, turning to look out the window, clearly not wanting to continue the conversation.
The car fell silent, the atmosphere even more oppressive than before.
Ten minutes later, the car stopped in front of Sophie's house.
Sophie looked at Dax, "Dax, thanks for driving me home tonight."
Without looking at Randy, she opened the door and got out.
Dax glanced at Randy nervously, "Mr. Smith?"
"Let's go."
"Okay..."
Sophie heard the car driving away as she reached her door.
She turned to look, only to see the car's tail lights disappearing around the corner.
Back in her bedroom, she angrily threw her bag on the couch and took out her phone to call Sharon.
"Sharon, what are you doing?"
"Getting ready for bed. What's up?"
Sophie recounted her argument with Randy. "I explained everything to him. What more does he want? I didn't do anything wrong. Why is he so mad at me?"
There was a moment of silence before Sharon's voice came through, "I think it's normal for him to be angry. He already minds Saul, and you met with Saul without telling him. Think about it, if he met with Electra without telling you, wouldn't you be mad?"
"That's different!"
"How is it different?"
"He lied to me several times for Electra, and Electra has ulterior motives towards him!"
Sharon chuckled, "Saul doesn't have ulterior motives towards you? And when you broke up with Randy, you were still in contact with Saul. Everyone minds the opposite sex around their partner. This time, it's your fault. Find a way to apologize or make it up to him, and it'll blow over."
"Alright, I'll think about how to make it up to him."
"Okay, I have to get up early tomorrow. Goodnight."
After hanging up, Sophie sighed and opened her chat with Randy, typing for a long time but not sending anything.
Sophie thought to herself, 'Forget it, he's still angry. I'll talk to him tomorrow.'
She closed her phone and went to wash up.
The next morning, Sophie checked her phone after waking up.
No messages.
Randy usually said good morning every day, but today, there was nothing.
He was still angry.
Suppressing her disappointment, Sophie got up, washed, dressed, and went to work.
After not sending the apology last night, it felt even harder today.
All day, Sophie was distracted, checking her phone every time it buzzed, hoping it was Randy, only to be disappointed each time.
Before leaving work, she finally mustered the courage to send a Facebook message.
[What are you doing?]
She waited over an hour with no reply.
Sophie frowned, feeling a surge of anger.
She had reached out, but Randy still wouldn't respond.
But knowing it was her fault, she suppressed her anger and decided to go to the Smith Villa.
An hour later, Sophie's car stopped at the Smith Villa.
She sat in the car for a while, hesitating to ring the doorbell.
Until a servant noticed her and came out, "Ms. Lee, are you here to see Mr. Smith?"
Sophie smiled and got out of the car.
"Yes, is he home?"
"He is. I'll take you in."
"Thank you."
The servant led Sophie to Randy's study, knocked on the door, and said, "Mr. Smith, Ms. Lee is here."
Footsteps sounded from inside, and soon, the door opened.
Seeing Sophie, Randy's face was expressionless. "Come in."
Sophie entered the study, closed the door, and looked at Randy. "I came to apologize."
Randy said nothing, walking to the bookshelf and picking up a book, as if he hadn't heard.
Sophie bit her lip and continued, "It was wrong of me not to tell you about meeting Saul. I didn't consider your feelings. I'm sorry. I reflected on it last night, and it won't happen again. I hope you can forgive me."
Randy turned to look at her. "Sophie, do you think you were wrong?"
Sophie's face fell, "If I didn't think I was wrong, I wouldn't have messaged you or come here. Randy, I've apologized. What more do you want?"
She had humbled herself, but Randy's questioning baffled her.
"So just because you apologized, all my emotions should disappear instantly, and I should welcome you with a smile?"
"That's not what I meant. Don't twist my words."
Randy's eyes locked onto hers, "Sophie, you seem never to see me as an equal. Because I pursued you for five years before you agreed to be with me, I should tolerate everything you do to me?"
