Chapter 223 I See Right Through You

Victor cut her off, "If you really don't wanna mess with me, then go public with your breakup with Seb right now and tell everyone we're together."

Grace went quiet, her eyes flickering with all sorts of emotions.

She couldn't wrap her head around why Victor, who was always so chill, suddenly flipped the script.

Plus, she just told Seb that she and Victor were just friends. If she went public now, what would Seb think?

"Victor, do you really gotta push me like this?"

Victor let out a small laugh. "Grace, it's 'cause you never made me feel secure. Go public or stay outta my life. Your call. If I don't see you announce our relationship by 8 AM tomorrow, I'll know you picked the second option."

Grace was about to say something, but the call ended abruptly.

She tried calling back, but after several tries, Victor didn't pick up. He was dead serious about making her choose.

Grace was fuming, but she knew that besides Victor's feelings, she had nothing else to lean on.

But going public like this? No way.

Once she announced her relationship with Victor, getting back with Seb would be a long shot.

After a sleepless night, Grace finally bit the bullet and posted on Facebook.

Her post blew up fast.

Over breakfast, Sophie brought it up.

"Did you see Grace's post? She said after getting back with Seb, she realized they missed too many years and weren't right for each other, so they broke up but stayed friends. What a hypocrite! She didn't say that when she was fighting you for Seb!"

Sharon took a calm bite of her toast and said, "I saw it. But if Seb hadn't given her the chance, she wouldn't have been able to mess with our relationship."

Seeing Sharon so chill, Sophie hesitated but had to ask, "Now that Seb's broken up with her, you and Seb..."

"Whether they break up or not, Seb and I are done. Right now, I gotta focus on my grad exams. Relationships can wait."

Whether it was Alex or Seb, Sharon had learned that relationships were shaky. She needed to be strong on her own.

"Alright."

They dropped the subject. After breakfast, Sophie headed to work, and Sharon went back to her room to study.

She'd been hitting the books for less than an hour when Karen called.

"Sharon, what did you do to Leo? Why'd the cops take him away?"

Karen's accusatory tone made Sharon frown.

"Ms. Wendy, why don't you ask Leo what he did to me? And think about why the cops arrested him and not me."

With that, Sharon hung up and blocked Karen's number.

Karen's hands shook with anger. She looked at Robert and said through gritted teeth, "Robert, Sharon's really grown up now. She's cut you off, got Leo arrested, and won't stop until she tears this family apart!"

Robert frowned and said in a deep voice, "You should go to the police station and find out what's going on first. We'll deal with the rest later."

Leo getting taken by the cops meant it was serious.

Plus, Robert was more inclined to side with Sharon, given the police were involved.

Karen quickly nodded. "Yeah, I'll head to the police station and see what's up."

When Karen got to the police station, she didn't see Leo. The cops told her Leo had leaked Sharon's drug research data, and now Silvercrest Group was suing him.

Hearing that the compensation could be in the billions, Karen went pale and almost passed out.

Karen thought, 'When I married Robert, his pharma company was worth just a few billion. Now, Leo leaks some data and owes billions?'

Stumbling out of the police station, Karen had no clue where to go or who to ask for help.

If Leo went to jail, his life would be over!

Karen kicked herself for not stopping Leo from coming back. Things wouldn't have gotten this bad.

Then it hit her, 'Sharon!'

Thinking it was all Sharon's fault, Karen's eyes burned with anger.

She grabbed a cab to Sharon's place and pounded on the door, but no one answered.

Karen pulled out her phone and called Sharon, but it kept going to voicemail. She knew Sharon had blocked her, so she didn't bother calling again.

With a grim face, she went back to the hospital and told Robert what happened.

After hearing everything, Robert surprisingly took Sharon's side.

"This is Leo's mess, and Sharon doesn't own Silvercrest Group. She can't do anything."

Karen stared at Robert in disbelief. "What do you mean? If they weren't working at the same company, Leo wouldn't be in this mess!"

"Just 'cause Sharon's your daughter, you're taking her side? I get it now. No matter how much Leo and I do for you, Sharon's your real family, and we're just outsiders!"

Seeing Karen being unreasonable, Robert's face darkened. "Do you think the folks at Silvercrest and the cops are idiots? If Leo hadn't leaked the data, this wouldn't have happened. And what does this have to do with Sharon? Did she hold a knife to his throat and make him do it?"

Karen looked at Robert, heartbroken. "Robert, I've taken care of you all these years, and now that Leo's in trouble, you don't even have a word of comfort. I see right through you. If anything, God forbid, happens to Leo, we're done!"

With that, Karen grabbed her bag and stormed out.

Robert watched her leave, his face dark and silent.

In the middle of the night, Sharon got a call from the hospital. "Ms. Wright, we can't reach Ms. Wendy. Your father, Robert, is alone in the hospital and needs someone to take care of him tonight. Can you come over?"

Sharon thought, 'Leo just got into trouble, and now Karen's unreachable? What a coincidence.'

This was probably Karen's way of threatening her, knowing the hospital would call Sharon if they couldn't reach her.

Sharon thought for a moment and said, "I understand. I'll find a caregiver to come over."

After hanging up, Sharon immediately contacted a caregiver and signed a six-month contract. The caregiver went to the hospital right away.

Sharon was already fed up with Robert from her last visit and didn't want to see him again.

At the police station, Leo stayed silent during the interrogation until his lawyer showed up and spoke for him.

Facing billions in compensation or jail time, Leo's face showed no panic.

Seeing Leo so calm, the cop's voice grew stern. "Mr. Wendy, I hope you cooperate with the investigation. Silence won't help you."

Leo smiled lightly. "I'm cooperating. Just negotiate the compensation with my lawyer."
