Chapter 106 Come Back with Me
Seb's eyes turned cold. "Check the hotel surveillance."
"On it."
After hanging up, Seb walked over to Sharon. "Any news?"she asked in a raspy voice.
"Not yet, but soon."
Sharon nodded, looking down. "Thanks, Uncle Seb. It's late. You should go home. I'll stay here."
Noticing her trembling hands and lowered head, Seb sat beside her.
"I'll stay," he said.
Sharon stayed silent, praying Sophie would be okay.
Maria Diaz and Leonard Lee soon arrived. Knowing that Sophie had fallen at Sharon's birthday party, Maria's eyes turned icy.
"Uncle Leonard, Aunt Maria, I'm sorry."
Maria, filled with rage, raised her hand to slap Sharon, but Seb caught her wrist.
"Mrs. Lee, I get you're upset, but don't take it out on others."
Seb stood between Maria and Sharon. "Uncle Seb, it's my fault," Sharon whispered.
"Shut up," Seb snapped, his gaze icy. Sharon fell silent.
Leonard pulled Maria aside. "We don't know what happened yet. Calm down."
"Sophie's life is on the line. How can I calm down?"
Leonard frowned. "This was aimed at Sophie. Even if she hadn't gone to the party, they would've found another way."
Maria stayed quiet but glared at Sharon. They all sat in tense silence.
Time dragged on until the operating room light finally went out. They rushed to the doctor. Leonard asked, "How's my daughter?"
The doctor removed his mask and replied, "We've treated her wounds and stopped the bleeding, but she hit her head. We can't say when she'll wake up."
Maria nearly collapsed, and Leonard caught her. Her voice broke. "What do you mean? Will she be in a vegetative state?"
The doctor shook his head. "Too soon to tell. We'll monitor her in the ICU for three days. If she doesn't wake up, the chances are high."
"Please, save my daughter. She's so young."
"That depends on her," said the doctor.
Sharon stepped back, disbelief on her face. Sophie might become a vegetable. She couldn't accept it.
Seeing Sharon's guilt and pain, Seb frowned. After Sophie was moved to the ICU, Sharon followed.
Maria, like a madwoman, rushed at Sharon, trying to hit her.
Leonard quickly stopped Maria, but not before Sharon got slapped, a red mark instantly appearing on her face.
Seb's eyes turned icy, glaring at Maria like he wanted to kill her.
Maria felt a pang of guilt under his gaze, but when she thought of Sophie lying in the ICU, her anger flared again.
"Mr. Smith, even if you want to come after me, I'm not afraid. Sophie's already like this; what's the point of my life!"
Sharon stepped out from behind Seb and looked up at him. "Uncle Seb, Aunt Maria is Sophie's mother. It's normal for her to be angry after something like this. I'm fine."
Leonard sighed. "Ms. Wright, you should go home. If Sophie improves, I'll let you know."
Sharon wanted to stay but knew her presence would only make things worse for Leonard and Maria.
"Alright."
She looked at Sophie through the glass, took a deep breath, and turned to leave.
Downstairs, Sharon didn't leave but sat on a nearby bench.
"Uncle Seb, you should go home."
Seb stood in front of her. "What about you?"
"I'm not going back tonight. I wouldn't be able to sleep anyway."
Besides, if she stayed here, she could know immediately if anything happened to Sophie.
"I'll have someone keep watch. You'll be informed the moment Sophie wakes up. Staying here won't help; come home with me."
Sharon shook her head. "Uncle Seb, it's fine. You've done enough for me today. I..."
Before she could finish, Seb suddenly bent down and picked her up.
Sharon was startled and quickly wrapped her arms around Seb's neck.
Seeing Seb carrying her out of the hospital, Sharon frowned. "Uncle Seb, put me down. Even if you take me back now, I'll come back later."
Seb walked steadily forward without saying a word.
When Sharon saw him ignore her, her eyes flashed with anger. "Uncle Seb, put me down. I said I don't want to go back!"
Seb looked down at her, his eyes cold.
"Staying here is a waste of time. The most important thing now is to go home, get some rest, and find out who did this to Sophie. Waiting here is pointless!"
Sharon's grip around Seb's neck tightened. After a few seconds, she said slowly, "Put me down. I can walk by myself."
Seb was right. Besides waiting for Sophie to wake up, she needed to find out who did this to her before Sophie woke up.
Seeing that Sharon had listened to him, Seb said nothing more and didn't put her down. He quickly walked to the roadside and put her in the car.
"Drive."
Half an hour later, the car stopped in front of a standalone villa.
Sharon frowned. "Where is this?"
"My home."
Sharon's expression changed. "Uncle Seb, please ask the driver to take me home."
"Stay here tonight, or walk home. Your choice."
With that, Seb got out of the car and walked toward the villa.
Seeing the pitch-black surroundings and hearing occasional animal noises, Sharon hesitated for a moment before following Seb into the villa.
The villa was decorated in a minimalist black, white, and gray style, with no bright colors or signs of life.
It was just like Seb, giving off a cold and unapproachable vibe.
Seb took a bottle of water from the fridge and drank a sip. Seeing Sharon still standing at the door he frowned.
"The slippers are in the shoe cabinet in front of you. You'll stay in the second room on the left on the second floor tonight."
With that, he turned and walked toward his study.
Seeing Seb about to leave, Sharon snapped out of it, quickly changed into slippers, and ran to block his way.
"Uncle Seb, have you found out how Sophie fell?"
