Chapter 361 You've Regained Your Memory, Haven't You?

When Sharon finally got her wound patched up at the hospital and turned on her phone, she saw a bunch of messages from Ariana.

Ariana: [Sharon, what's the deal with you and Mr. Smith? Did you guys know each other before?]

Ariana: [After you and Mr. Smith left, everyone was buzzing about your relationship. Are you two a thing now?]

Ariana: [Oh, when Mr. Smith walked into the lab and saw your hand bleeding, he looked super worried. It's clear he cares about you!]

Ariana: [So, what's really going on between you two?]

Sharon frowned at Ariana's messages. Typing with one hand was rather inconvenient, so she sent a voice message instead.

"I do know him, but we're just friends, and I have a boyfriend," Sharon replied.

No way was she going to tell Ariana that Seb was Demetrius's biological father. That was nobody's business.

Ariana quickly shot back: [Is your boyfriend Zachary?]

After replying to Ariana, Sharon hesitated for a moment and sent another voice message to Ariana. "Please tell everyone Seb and I just knew each other before, and there's nothing romantic. Tell them to stop guessing."

After sending the message, Sharon put her phone away and looked up to meet Seb's complicated gaze.

"Does being connected to me bother you that much?" Seb asked, sounding hurt.

Sharon was a bit taken aback by his question but soon responded calmly, "Mr. Smith, it's better for both of us to clear things up. I don't want any unnecessary misunderstandings that might hurt Zachary."

Seb's hand slowly clenched at his side, and he couldn't help but ask, "If I wanted to pursue you, would you give me a chance?"

Sharon saw the seriousness in his eyes, and that strange feeling came back. The Seb who had lost his memory wouldn't ask her such a question. Plus, the way he looked at her now was just like five years ago.

"You've regained your memory, haven't you?" Sharon asked, her voice steady.

Seb's pupils contracted, and just as he was about to speak, Sharon continued, "Don't deny it. Ever since you fell and lost consciousness while saving me, your attitude towards me has been off. You must have regained your memory then, right?"

Silence fell between them; it was so quiet they could hear each other's breathing. After a long while, Seb gave a bitter smile.

"You figured it out. I thought I hid it well," he admitted.

"If you hadn't asked me that question today, I might not have realized it so soon," Sharon said softly.

Seb lowered his gaze. "Let me take you home," he offered.

"No need. I'll take a cab. Since you've regained your memory, let's keep our distance from now on. I don't want Zachary to misunderstand," Sharon replied firmly.

With that, she turned to leave. But after just two steps, Seb grabbed her wrist.

"Have you really fallen in love with Zachary?" he asked, his voice pained.

Sharon shook off his hand and looked at him coldly. "It's none of your business. No matter what happens between Zachary and me, there's no chance for us," she said.

Without looking at Seb's expression, Sharon quickly left. It wasn't until she got into a taxi that her heartbeat finally calmed down. She hadn't expected Seb to regain his memory really. But no matter what, she and Seb could never be together.

When Sharon got back to the lab, Jake was already there, looking calm. As soon as he saw Sharon, his eyes showed guilt. He mustered the courage to walk up to her and apologized with his head down.

"Sharon, I'm really sorry. I freaked out and ran off after you got hurt. I'm such a coward. If you're mad, you can hit me or even kick me," Jake said, his voice full of regret.

"If kicking you could fix the mess with the experimental data, I would've done it already," Sharon replied.

Jake scratched his head, looking guilty. "Sharon, I swear I gave the experimental data to Miguel on Friday. He must've lost it and then blamed me," he explained.

Seeing Jake's guilty yet anxious expression, Sharon felt a bit helpless. Jake was still too young.

"When exactly did you give him the data on Friday?" she asked.

"After everyone left work, I filled in the last few data points and handed it to him," Jake answered.

"So, no one else was around to see you give him the data," Sharon stated.

Jake looked a bit frustrated. "But no one can prove I didn't give it to him either!" he retorted.

Sharon nodded. "That's one way to look at it, but the main issue is with you. He keeps saying you didn't provide the data, so you have to take the blame and can't do anything about it," she pointed out.

Jake's face fell again, and he said dejectedly, "Sharon, this is my fault. I've held back the experiment. I'm willing to accept any punishment."

"Punishment is secondary. I just hope you remember this lesson well. Be more careful in the future. Don't give others a chance to take advantage of you," Sharon advised.

"Okay, I've learned a hard lesson. I won't forget it," Jake said, his voice filled with determination.

Seeing that he was too guilty to look at her, Sharon didn't say anything more. She gently patted his shoulder, opened her computer, and pulled up a document.

"Fill in the last few sets of data from Friday, then print it out and give it to Miguel," she instructed.

Jake looked up in shock. "Sharon, you kept a backup?"

"Yes, the most important thing in experiments is to always have a backup. You never know when something might go wrong," Sharon replied.

Jake's gloominess vanished. "Sharon, thank you for helping me!"

"Alright, enough with the nonsense. Fill in the data first. You had a major work error this time. I'll report it to Mr. McPherson, and you'll probably get a pay cut," Sharon said.

"It's fine, as long as it doesn't delay the experiment," Jake responded.

After filling in the experimental data, Jake printed it out and went to the office to find Miguel. He turned on his phone camera in advance, placed the data on Miguel's desk, and said coldly, "This time you got it, right? Don't lose it again and blame it on someone else. It's pretty embarrassing to not own up to your mistakes."

Miguel looked at him coldly. "Put your phone away, or don't blame me for being rude."

Jake raised an eyebrow. "I'm just recording evidence," he said defiantly.

"Do you need to record for this long?" Miguel asked, his tone icy.

Jake sneered, quickly turned off the recording, and said word by word, "Miguel, just wait and see!"

With that, Jake turned and left. Miguel coldly watched his back, then threw the experimental data into the trash can, opened a drawer, and took out a file from the bottom. It was the experimental data report Jake had given him on Friday.

In the end, the issue of the lost experimental data concluded with Jake getting a one-week pay cut.

After work in the evening, Sharon called Zachary and asked him to go to the movies with her the next night.
