Chapter 129 Turned the Smith Family Upside Down
Sharon's heart skipped a beat, and she lunged at Alex.
"Give me back my phone!"
Alex stumbled but quickly regained his balance. He grabbed her hand, his voice cold. "I'm here to talk."
Sharon shook him off. "I have nothing to say to you."
She looked at him, eyes full of stubbornness and cold distance. Lately, she'd been so indifferent that Alex almost forgot her once gentle demeanor.
"Sharon, I told Grandpa and Grandma I'm not going back to the Smith group. I'm starting my own business."
Her expression didn't change. "What you do is none of my business."
Alex's eyes darkened. "Sharon, I'm your husband. We're supposed to be in this together. Do you really want us to stay this way?"
His words amused her. 'How could he still think I would spend my life with him?' Sharon thought.
Her silence made Alex grip the phone tighter. He took a deep breath. "I was wrong to push you about the child. I'm sorry. I won't force you anymore."
"If that's all you came to say, you can leave."
"Sharon, I need your help to start my business. Working at Silvercrest means working for someone else. Join me. You just need to research drugs, and I'll handle the rest. I'll even give you shares. What do you say?"
Sharon chuckled. "So that's what you want. But I don't have another patent. Even if I did, no way I'd give it to you."
It was clear he only wanted her when she was useful.
Alex frowned. "How can you not have one? Aren't you developing drugs at Silvercrest? Bring that project over."
His matter-of-fact tone made her feel even more distant. The once high-spirited Alex had become a hypocrite.
"You really have no limits."
Seeing the mockery in her eyes, Alex gritted his teeth. "If it weren't for you exposing Ava's pregnancy, I wouldn't have been kicked out of the Smith group. You need to take responsibility."
"I've had someone verify that recording. Results should be out tomorrow. Do you really not know who exposed it?"
Alex looked away, feeling guilty under her gaze.
"Even if it wasn't you, as my wife, you should help me. Only if I succeed will the Smith family value you."
Sharon mused, 'The Smith family's value? I used to care, but not anymore. But I need to get rid of Alex before he found the document.'
She bit her lip, eyes showing a struggle. "I need to think about it. If the company finds out, I could go to jail."
Seeing her relent, Alex's expression softened. "Alright, I'll give you time."
"I want to rest now. You should go."
Knowing Sharon's personality, Alex didn't push further. He handed her the phone.
"Call me when you've decided."
Sharon took the phone, eyes downcast, saying nothing.
After Alex left, she locked the door and propped a chair against it, finally feeling a bit secure. She then dialed Seb's number.
In the Smith family living room, Tyler and Sandra sat on the couch with grim faces, while Seb stood nearby.
"Alex said you like a married woman. Is it true?" Tyler asked, his gaze serious.
Seb, the most outstanding of his sons, couldn't be involved with a married woman. Sandra, too, looked grim. She had introduced many women to Seb, but he showed no interest. If Seb liked a married woman, it would be a scandal.
Since it couldn't be hidden, Seb admitted, "Yes."
Tyler slammed the table, livid. "I don't care who you like, you need to end it!"
Sandra clutched her chest, eyes full of disbelief. "Seb, you've never worried us. With your status, you can have any woman. Why a married one?"
Seb looked directly at them, speaking slowly, "She'll be divorced soon."
Sandra was so angry her chest hurt. None of them were making her life easy.
"Even if she gets divorced, it's not acceptable. People will say you're lowering yourself, picking up someone discarded!"
Seb's expression was indifferent. "I don't care what others say. A woman's worth isn't tied to her marital status."
Tyler, furious, threw his teacup and stood up. "I'm done talking. If you stay involved with her, we'll cut ties!"
He stormed off, determined to protect Seb's reputation. He'd find out who the woman was and make her stay away, one way or another.
Sandra looked disappointed. "Seb, are you really going to turn the Smith family upside down for a divorced woman?"
Seb remained calm, showing no sign of retreat. "Mom, it's not me turning the family upside down, it's you. Who I choose to be with is my decision. You can advise, but whether I listen or not is up to me. Controlling me will only lead to disappointment."
"You!"
Sandra didn't expect Seb to go this far. Her face turned red with anger, and she pointed at him, speechless.
"It's late. I'm leaving. If you can accept it, I'll introduce her to you once we're official. If not, you'll never meet her."
With that, Seb turned and left.
Behind him, Sandra's angry voice rang out, "Stop right there!"
Seb ignored her and quickly walked out of the mansion. As soon as he got into his car, his phone rang. Seeing it was Sharon, he was surprised and answered.
"What's up?"
"Uncle Seb, can you come over?"
