Chapter 549 Can the Silvercrest Group Hold On?
Seb and Sharon hugged for a moment before Seb pulled away. Just as he was about to speak, his phone rang from his pocket.
Seeing it was Paul, Seb's expression darkened as he answered the call.
"What's up?"
"Mr. Smith, all the companies I contacted this morning have refused to work with us. Mr. Brown's secretary privately informed me that someone warned Mr. Brown not to cooperate with Silvercrest Group, or else Excellence Corp would soon go bankrupt."
"Under such threats, no company is willing to work with Silvercrest Group."
If this continued, Silvercrest Group would soon face a financial crisis again.
Seb lowered his gaze and said coldly, "Got it. We'll discuss it when I get back this afternoon."
He hung up the phone and looked up to meet Sharon's worried eyes. "Seb, is it Jesse or Alton targeting Silvercrest Group?"
"If I'm not mistaken, it's Jesse."
Seb could tell that Alton didn't want to have any issues with Sharon because of him, so he hadn't made a move yet and had Jesse handle these matters instead.
Seb's eyes darkened.
Sharon frowned. "I overheard Paul saying no company is willing to work with Silvercrest Group. Is the situation really that bad?"
Seb reached out and gently patted her head, his voice soft. "Don't worry about it. I'll handle these things. You just need to focus on taking Demetrius to and from school every day. Leave the rest to me."
Sharon bit her lip, looking a bit guilty. "I'm sorry, it's all because of me."
If it weren't for her, Seb's company wouldn't have faced bankruptcy before, and they wouldn't be dealing with Jesse now.
The more she thought about it, the more guilty and self-blaming she felt.
"It's not your fault. Even without you, the company would still face challenges. Don't think about it. Let's go eat."
Sharon didn't want him to be overwhelmed with company issues while also having to comfort her. She forced a smile. "Okay, let's eat. If I had known you were coming back, I would have asked Dana to make a couple more dishes."
They walked into the dining room and saw the table filled with their favorite dishes. In the center was a cake with "Congrats On Your Marriage" written on it. Sharon was momentarily stunned and looked at Seb.
"Did you ask Dana to prepare this?"
"Yes."
"I should have done this. I'm sorry, I didn't think of it."
She had thought that just registering their marriage was enough, not realizing how much Seb valued this.
Seb pulled out a chair for her and smiled. "I wanted to do this. I already feel bad for not giving you a proper wedding. If I made you handle this too, I'd feel even worse."
Sharon held his hand. "There's no need to feel bad. Since I chose to marry you, it means you're worth it. Don't feel guilty."
"Okay, let's eat."
Seb had planned to enjoy a nice meal with Sharon, but halfway through, he was called away by a phone call.
He stood up, looking apologetically at Sharon. "Sharon, I'm sorry. There's an emergency at the company, and I need to go back immediately. I'll make it up to you tonight."
"Go ahead. The company's matters are important. We have plenty of time to be together."
Seb gave her a deep look. "Alright, I'll pick you up tonight, and we'll go out for dinner."
"Sounds good."
After Seb left, Sharon looked at the barely touched food on the table and lost her appetite. She put down her fork and turned to Dana. "Dana, I'm done. Could you please clear the table?"
Dana frowned. "Ms. Roach, you barely ate anything."
Sharon shook her head. "I can't eat anymore. I'm going to rest for a bit."
"Alright, let me know if you get hungry later."
"I will."
After Sharon left, Dana looked at the table full of food and sighed.
Not only had Sharon lost her appetite, but Dana had also been eating less due to worrying about Seb's company.
Back in her bedroom, Sharon sat at her vanity, staring at her phone, debating whether to tell Sophie about her marriage to Seb.
After a long time, she finally dialed Sophie's number.
"Hey, Sharon! What's up?"
"Sophie, I have something to tell you. Brace yourself."
Hearing this, Sophie couldn't help but feel nervous. "What is it? Tell me, is it good or bad?"
"I think it's good news."
"Okay, go ahead. I'm ready."
"Seb and I got married."
"What?" Sophie's voice shot up. "Say that again? Are you serious?"
"Of course, I'm serious."
"This is the best news ever! Sharon, congratulations! So, when's the wedding?"
"We're not in a rush for the wedding. There are still a lot of things to handle. We'll think about the wedding after everything settles down."
There was a brief silence on the other end before Sophie spoke again. "I see. But still, congratulations! You two will be very happy!"
"Thank you. When you have time, come over with Randy, and we'll have a meal together."
"Sure thing."
After hanging up, Sharon placed her phone on the table, pondering what to do next.
With Seb's company in such a difficult situation, she had to find a way to help him.
Meanwhile, at the company, Seb arrived to find Paul anxiously waiting for him. "Mr. Smith, I've notified all the shareholders for a meeting, but the ones planning to sell their shares didn't show up."
"Alright, I understand. Let's start the meeting."
Seb quickly walked into the office, where a dozen people were already seated, all looking grim.
As soon as Seb entered, someone couldn't help but speak up. "Mr. Smith, you're finally here. Some shareholders are planning to sell their shares, and we can't persuade them otherwise."
If news of Silvercrest Group's shareholders selling their shares got out, the company's already fragile stock price might plummet further.
Seb's expression was cold as he took his seat and addressed the group. "Paul has already briefed me on the situation. Silvercrest Group is indeed facing a crisis. I understand that some of you want to sell your shares and leave.
"Some of you have been with Silvercrest Group since its inception and have stayed because of your attachment to the company. Others joined later and want to cut their losses. I understand both perspectives.
"I'm not asking anyone to stick with Silvercrest Group through thick and thin because I can't guarantee we'll pull through this time. But if you choose to stay, I will be deeply grateful and will do everything in my power to get Silvercrest Group back on track."
