Chapter 274 Has Falling in Love Made You Lose Your Mind?

Sharon shot back, "Oh, so you want me to ditch my career just 'cause you can't stand me being around Seb?"

Sharon's lips twisted into a grin, but her eyes were ice-cold. "Ms. Walker, don't you think you're giving yourself a bit too much credit?"

Rebecca's face twisted in annoyance. "Didn't think you'd get so sassy after five years. Ever consider that your attitude might hurt those around you?"

A smirk danced in Sharon's eyes. "Ms. Walker, have you been so head-over-heels these past few years that you've lost it? This is Aidamore, not Metropolis. Our lab's got tons of research achievements. Just one of 'em would pull in a crowd of supporters. You really think the Walker Family runs the show here?"

Sharon found it hilarious when Rebecca claimed she could easily take down their lab.

She even wondered if Rebecca had a clue who was backing their lab.

"Cut the crap. Last chance. If you don't leave Seb on your own, what happens next is outta my hands!"

"Idiot!" Sharon didn't even wanna waste another word on her and turned to leave.

As Sharon opened the door, she almost smacked right into Seb, who was about to walk in.

Seb looked down at Sharon, his eyes calm but intimidating.

Sharon instinctively took a step back, her brows knitting together.

Could it be that Rebecca had the guts to threaten her 'cause she had Seb's backing?

Sharon had heard that under Seb's leadership, the Silvercrest Group had blown up big time in recent years. All their branches in major cities were killing it, and their status was untouchable.

Today, Sharon was rocking a light beige, waist-cinching long dress that showed off her slim waist.

She had light makeup on, and under the overhead light, her face looked flawless and stunning.

Seeing the flicker of emotion in her eyes, Seb realized she had gotten the wrong idea. He explained in a deep voice, "Ms. Roach, sorry for the trouble my fiancée caused you."

Sharon narrowed her eyes, like she was weighing the truth of Seb's words.

After a beat, Sharon's lips curled into a mocking smile as she said, "Mr. Smith, I'm grateful for Ms. Walker's investment in our lab. How could I see it as trouble? It's just that Ms. Walker seems a bit insecure, thinking I might steal you away. Mr. Smith, do you think the same?"

Seb hadn't expected her to lay it all out there. He lowered his gaze, and the air around him got heavy, like the calm before a storm.

But Sharon seemed unfazed, smiling as she looked at him.

Soon, Seb looked away, his voice turning colder, though not aimed at her. "Rebecca, apologize to Ms. Roach."

Rebecca bit her lip, unsure how Seb knew about her meeting with Sharon today, but her eyes were filled with reluctance.

Even though Rebecca couldn't stand Sharon, under Seb's unyielding gaze, she could only reluctantly say, "Ms. Roach, I'm sorry."

Sharon smiled gently, her voice soft. "Ms. Walker, no need to apologize. If I had such a handsome fiancé, I'd be just as protective as you, making sure no one could take him away."

Rebecca's face went ghostly white. If Seb wasn't there, she would've ripped Sharon's fake smile right off.

Rebecca forced a grin. "Ms. Roach, glad you get it."

Sharon nodded. "Oh, I get it, but maybe steer clear of these pointless stunts."

"Sure thing, Ms. Roach. I'll remember that!" Rebecca spat out, her eyes shooting daggers at Sharon.

Sharon turned to Seb with a smile. "Thanks, Mr. Smith. You and Ms. Walker probably have more to chat about, so I'll head out."

Seb replied, "Alright, Ms. Roach. I'll invite you to dinner another day to make up for this."

"No need for dinner. Last thing I want is to be blamed for messing up someone else's relationship."

With that, Sharon brushed past Seb and left.

Soon, it was just Rebecca and Seb in the private room. She had picked the best spot in the restaurant, tucked away in the farthest corner, separated from other rooms. Only faint sounds from other rooms could be heard, and hardly anyone passed by.

Seb looked at her calmly, not a hint of anger, but Rebecca didn't dare meet his gaze. She knew he was pissed.

After a long silence, Rebecca broke it. "Seb, let me explain."

Seb chuckled. "Is it even necessary now? Rebecca, I kept you around 'cause you were obedient. If you lose that, why should I keep you?"

Hearing that, Rebecca panicked and hurried towards him, stopping a few steps away. "Seb, I didn't mean to today. I just lost my mind for a moment."

Seb coldly asked, "Why'd you go after Ms. Roach?"

Rebecca froze, not getting it.

Seeing her confusion, Seb repeated, "Silvercrest Group has invested in or worked with plenty of women prettier than Sharon. You've never threatened them. Why her?"

He had no interest in Sharon, but Rebecca's actions were out of the ordinary.

Why did she think Sharon was different?

Rebecca's face went pale, and she stammered, her palms sweating.

"I..." She had no clue how to explain.

Knowing Sharon had Seb's kid had freaked her out. She was scared Sharon would spill the beans to Seb, forgetting that to him, Sharon was just a stranger now.

Seb's sharp gaze seemed to see through everything, making Rebecca tremble slightly.

Rebecca didn't know how to explain to ease Seb's doubts.

Just as she was about to crumble under Seb's gaze, his phone suddenly rang.

Seb glanced at it and answered. Rebecca had no idea what was said on the other end. The next second, Seb replied coldly, "I'll be right there."

After hanging up, he looked at Rebecca. "If you can't give me a reason, I'll find out myself."

Rebecca's face turned pale, and she quickly said, "Seb, you know I've been wanting to marry you. When you suddenly said you'd call off the engagement, I was scared you might've fallen for someone else. Among the women you met in Aidamore, Ms. Roach is the most beautiful, so I felt threatened."
