Chapter 345 At Worst, We'll Fight

Seb turned to Sharon and said, "I'll take you upstairs."

Sharon shook her head. "No need. It's late. You should head back. Thanks for bringing us home."

She then got out of the car with Demetrius in her arms.

Seb handed her the car keys. "If you need anything, just hit me up."

Sharon was caught off guard. That weird feeling she had at the hospital came back. If she remembered right, Seb's attitude had done a 180 since he woke up. She couldn't help but wonder if Seb had gotten his memory back.

But now wasn't the time to test him. She lowered her eyes, took the keys, and nodded. "Alright, Mr. Smith, thanks for tonight."

Seb didn't say anything else. He watched Sharon and Demetrius disappear into the building before getting back in his car and driving off.

Over the next few days, Sharon, along with Jake and Ariana, teamed up with the Silvercrest Group employees and kicked off their project in the lab. They were working with the Silvercrest Group's lab crew to develop a heart disease drug. The Silvercrest team had four researchers: Miguel Fields, Kirk Marshall, Adeline Oliver, and Violet Gomez, with Kirk as the team leader.

With more people, things got trickier. Both Miguel and Jake were good at testing, but only one was needed for that, so the other had to join the experiment team.

Miguel crossed his arms, looking annoyed. "I'm not good at experiments. Let Jake join the experiment team."

Jake frowned. He had planned to join the experiment team, but Miguel's attitude ticked him off. "I'm not good at experiments either, and you're not the team leader. Why should I listen to you?"

Miguel's face turned cold. "I won't do experiments. If you force me into the experiment team and something goes wrong, don't blame me!"

"Are you threatening me?" Jake, being young, immediately wanted to confront Miguel.

Sharon held him back. "Jake, chill."

Kirk also stepped in to mediate, smiling. "Mr. Dickson, don't be mad. Miguel's always like this. Please understand."

Miguel sneered. "Mr. Marshall, I'm not scared of Jake. We can fight it out, and the winner stays in the testing team."

His words made the previously calm atmosphere tense again, and Jake's face turned dark. "Fine, let's fight!"

"Jake!" Sharon snapped, her eyes flashing with anger. "You're joining the experiment team."

"Sharon," Jake began.

Sharon cut him off, "Either do as I say, or go back to Aidamore."

Jake gritted his teeth, his eyes filled with anger, and turned his head without saying another word.

Miguel wanted to speak, but Kirk glared at him. "I warn you, don't cause trouble!"

Meeting Kirk's cold eyes, Miguel reluctantly lowered his head and said nothing more.

Sharon looked at Kirk. "Mr. Marshall, who in your team is good for the experiment team? We're still short one person."

Kirk smiled. "Adeline has more experience with experiments. Let her join the experiment team."

Sharon said, "Alright, thanks, Mr. Marshall."

After assigning the roles, Sharon took the group to the lab, explained the precautions, and then let them start working. Jake had a sour face all day because Sharon had stopped him in the morning. It wasn't that he didn't want to work with Sharon on the experiment; he was just unhappy with Miguel's arrogant attitude. Why should he give in to Miguel?

As the workday was winding down, Sharon asked Jake to stick around after work because she had something to tell him. By the end of the day, Ariana and Adeline had already hit it off and left together like old friends. Jake waited in the lab for a bit. Sharon grabbed the car keys and told him to come with her.

Once they were in the car, Sharon looked at Jake and asked, "What do you want for dinner? Your choice, my treat."

Jake frowned. "Sharon, if you're apologizing for today, don't bother. I wanted to join the experiment team anyway. I just didn't like Miguel's attitude. I  also understand why you did what you did."

If Sharon hadn't stepped in, he and Miguel might've actually thrown down.

Sharon said thoughtfully, "It's not an apology. Just a little something to make up for the crap you dealt with today."

Jake grinned. "Well, in that case, I won't hold back."

Jake picked a restaurant near Silvercrest Group, and Sharon drove them there. Once they were seated, Jake started venting about Miguel. He'd dealt with some oddballs in the lab before, but no one as weird as Miguel.

Jake grumbled, "I don't know how Miguel survives at work! He must be hated by everyone!"

Sharon poured him a cup of tea. "You've been talking non-stop. You must be thirsty. Have some tea," she said.

Jake, feeling a bit parched, downed the tea in one gulp. "Sharon, I really can't let this go," he admitted.

"Even if you can't, you have to," Sharon replied calmly. "You got one thing wrong earlier. Miguel is just domineering towards you, but he clearly doesn't dare to offend Kirk; in fact, his attitude towards him is almost obsequious.“

Jake looked at her in disbelief. "Sharon, are you sure?"

"Why do you think Miguel deliberately provoked you today?" Sharon asked.

"Wasn't it to fight for the tester position?" Jake guessed.

Sharon smiled. "You're still too young. He wasn't fighting for that position; he was fighting for Kirk's control over the whole project."

Jake looked puzzled. "If that's the case, then we shouldn't back down even more. Do we have to follow Mr. Marshall's arrangements from now on?"

"It's okay," Sharon said. "Even if something goes wrong, the blame won't fall on us."

"But what if he makes things difficult for us?" Jake asked, still worried.

Sharon looked up at him and said slowly, "If he really wants to make things difficult for us, he'll do it no matter what. What we need to do is to mess up his plans."

Jake didn't get it. They were all working on a project for Silvercrest Group. Why couldn't they just work together and avoid all this drama?

Seeing his frustrated and confused expression, Sharon said slowly, "Mr. McPherson sent you and Ariana to this project to give you both some experience."

Their lab environment was pretty simple, and both Jake and Ariana were pretty straightforward too. If they went out to do projects alone in the future, their personalities would definitely put them at a disadvantage.

"I just want to do experiments well and not get involved in all this mess," Jake said, frustrated.

Sharon shook her head. "Sometimes, it's not about whether you want to get involved or not," she explained.

She didn't plan to say much more. Once this project was over, Jake would understand what she meant.

As they were talking, Sharon's phone suddenly rang.
