Chapter 162 Shouldn't I Be Angry?
"Long time no see."
Leo walked up to Sharon, smiled, and said, "Yeah, it's been ages."
It had been five or six years since they last met, and they hadn't kept in touch much. Sharon felt a bit awkward.
"Let's head inside."
After sitting down and ordering food, Sharon asked, "Why'd you come back? Karen said you're doing well overseas. If you stayed a few more years, you could settle down there."
Seeing Sharon so close, Leo almost lost his focus. He looked away and said, "Couldn't get used to the food abroad."
Sharon was surprised and didn't quite believe it. "That's it?"
"Yeah."
"Okay, have you found a job yet? Or taking a break?"
Leo sipped his water, tapped the glass, and said, "I had an interview at Silvercrest Group today."
Sharon almost spat out her water. "You're joining Silvercrest Group?"
"What's wrong with that?"
Sharon shook her head. "No, I just thought you'd join a pharmaceutical company."
Back when Robert Pharmaceuticals was still around, Sharon was set to inherit it, and Leo loved pharmaceutical research too. They even filled out their college applications together.
Robert had planned to give Leo some shares to get him to come back and help Sharon, but Leo refused and got a full scholarship to study abroad. He'd only come back twice in all these years.
After going abroad, Leo distanced himself from Sharon. She didn't know why. Later, when she got with Alex, she focused on him and drifted further from Leo.
"Silvercrest wasn't on my radar, but their HR invited me for an interview, so I went."
Sharon sighed. "Talents are always in demand."
Leo's eyes turned cold. "Enough about me. How have you been?"
Sharon gave a bitter smile. "Karen probably told you about my divorce. My life’s a mess."
Leo was silent for a few seconds, then softly said, "It's not your fault. Do what you want. I support you."
Sharon looked at him, surprised and touched. Since her divorce and reporting David to the police, both the Smith and Wright families had urged her to drop it. She didn't expect Leo to support her.
"Aren't you afraid of being dragged down by me?"
"What you're doing is right. Why should I be afraid? Besides, if the Smith family wants to mess with me, they should think twice."
Seeing Leo's calm demeanor, Sharon wondered if he knew the Smith family's reputation in Metropolis. With their power, dealing with her would be a piece of cake.
Just as Sharon was about to speak, she paused, looking behind Leo.
Her seat faced the entrance, so she saw people coming and going.
Seb walked in with a smile, but she sensed he was in a bad mood.
Leo turned to see what she was looking at, and when his eyes met Seb's, they narrowed slightly.
'This guy seems hostile,' Leo thought.
Seb walked straight to Sharon and sat down. "Sharon, having dinner with Leo and didn't tell me? I could've joined."
Leo looked at Sharon, confused. "Who's this?"
With both Seb and Leo staring at her, Sharon frowned, about to introduce them, but Seb spoke first.
"Hello, Mr. Wendy. I'm Sharon's boyfriend, Seb, and the CEO of Silvercrest Group."
Leo's eyes flickered as they shook hands. "Hi, I'm Leo."
In that brief eye contact, only they knew the tension between them.
Sharon asked Seb, "Why are you here?"
Seb let go of Leo's hand and turned to her. "Can't I see my family? You didn't invite me to dinner with Leo."
Sharon replied, "I thought you were busy."
"No matter how busy, I always have time for family."
Seb's words reminded Leo that he was Sharon's stepbrother. Leo's hand clenched under the table, his gaze at Seb growing hostile. He thought he had a chance with Sharon after her divorce, but Seb beat him to it.
"How about you order? We only got food for two."
Seb handed the menu to Sharon with a smile. "You order. You know what I like."
Sharon thought, 'We haven't been together long; how would I know what he likes?' But she didn't want to embarrass Seb in front of Leo, so she randomly ordered two dishes.
While Sharon ordered, Leo and Seb started chatting, leaving her out of the conversation.
She felt like a background character, finishing dinner. Seb still seemed reluctant to leave. "Mr. Wendy, it was great meeting you. Let's do this again sometime."
Leo glanced at Sharon, who had her head down. "Sure, there will be a chance."
Seb took Sharon's hand. "We'll take you back to your hotel."
"No need, my friend is picking me up. I have plans."
Seb nodded. "Then Sharon and I will head back. Goodbye."
Leo looked at Sharon, his gaze softening. "I'm visiting Robert tomorrow. Want to come?"
"No, I'll go next time."
"Alright, take care."
"You too."
Once out of Leo's sight, Sharon shook off Seb's hand and walked to her car.
Seb stopped her. "Are you mad?"
Sharon looked up, angry. "Shouldn't I be? Why did you come tonight?"
Seb's smile faded. "You didn't want me to meet Leo?"
"That's different."
"How? You didn't want me over 'cause you won't introduce me to your family or acknowledge me, right?"
Facing Seb's aggressive gaze, Sharon sneered. "Grace Hall can make you disappear with one call. Do you think I dare introduce you to my family and acknowledge you?"
