Chapter 429 In Your Eyes, Is It Worthless?
Sophie slurred, "I said you're ugly!"
Daniel's face darkened as he saw Sophie's glazed eyes and flushed cheeks. Even though he knew arguing with a drunk person was pointless, her words still stung.
Randy, who was holding Sophie, laughed harshly, "Mr. Thomas, did you hear that? My girlfriend doesn't like ugly touching her, so stay out of it next time."
Daniel shot him a cold look, "Randy, you and Sophie aren't right for each other. You should let go before you get hurt."
Randy snapped back, "Whether I let go or not is none of your business. Mind your own."
With that, Randy took Sophie and left. As they walked away, Daniel's eyes narrowed. It seemed like the Smith Group needed a little trouble.
Outside the bar, a cool breeze hit Sophie, making her shiver and sober up a bit. She turned and saw Randy holding her, her expression changing as she quickly pushed him away. "I don't need your help."
Even though she was more sober, the alcohol still made her unsteady, and she almost fell.
Randy grabbed her hand and pulled her back into his arms, looking a bit exasperated, "Stop it, I'll take you home."
Sophie wanted to struggle, but her drunken body wouldn't cooperate, so she let Randy guide her to the car.
Once the car started, she stopped struggling, knowing she couldn't escape, and just sat as far away from Randy as possible.
Seeing her wary look, Randy couldn't help but chuckle, raising an eyebrow, "The car's only so wide. Even if you move further away, I can still pull you into my arms with one reach."
Sophie didn't respond, still watching him warily. But her drunken gaze had no real threat, making her look kind of cute.
Randy resisted the urge to pinch her cheek and said, "Sophie, let's talk properly tomorrow when you're sober."
After being scolded by Seb earlier, he realized he'd been a bit immature. Rushing to Daniel's house to confront Sophie was too impulsive. Since Sophie chose him, he should trust her more.
Sophie stayed silent, her eyes gradually lowering. Randy talked for a while longer, but without a response from Sophie, he frowned, "Sophie?"
The only answer was a soft snore.
Randy was stunned for a moment, then couldn't help but laugh, finally reaching out to pinch her cheek.
In less than half an hour, they arrived at Sophie's house. The servant saw him bringing Sophie back and immediately took her from him, "Mr. Smith, thank you. I'll take Ms. Lee to her room. It's too late to invite you in."
Randy nodded, "Alright, she's drunk. Make sure she gets some hangover soup."
The servant replied, "Okay."
After the Lee Villa's door closed, Randy turned and left.
On the other side, knowing Sophie was safely home, Sharon finally felt completely relieved.
Seb asked, "Sharon, can we sleep now?"
Sharon replied, "Okay."
Seb turned off the light, and the room fell into darkness. Sharon couldn't sleep, tossing and turning in bed. Suddenly, a hand wrapped around her waist, and a warm body pressed against her.
Seb whispered in her ear, his voice low and husky, "Can't sleep?"
His warm breath brushed her earlobe, causing a tickling sensation. Sharon pushed him away, "I can sleep. I'm tired now. Stay away from me."
Seb asked, "Really?"
Sharon replied, "Of course. Don't come closer, it's hot."
Seb chuckled, "Weren't you saying you were cold last night? Why are you complaining about the heat today? You really do use and discard."
Sharon stayed silent. She was cold last night because she forgot to close the window.
While she was quiet, Seb slowly moved closer to her, "Sharon, it's been several days since we..."
Sharon cut him off, "Not interested today."
Seb sighed, "Alright, let's sleep." He lay back down.
The next morning, as soon as Seb got to the office, Paul walked in with a document. "Mr. Smith, this is the identification report for the two samples you gave me earlier."
Seb took it and opened it. The report confirmed that Sharon and Robert had a parent-child relationship, so the Wright family had no connection with Jesse.
Paul said, "Mr. Smith, Mr. Thomas set up a meeting with the Smith Group's biggest client this morning. He might be planning something against us."
Seb raised an eyebrow, "It's not that easy to steal our biggest client. He must have another motive."
Paul looked puzzled, "What other motive?"
Seb replied, "Don't worry about that. Just keep an eye on whether he contacts anyone abroad. If he does, let me know immediately."
Paul said, "Okay, Mr. Smith."
After Paul left, Seb called Randy, "Did you hear about Daniel meeting with our biggest client today?"
"Yeah, I'm on my way there now," Randy's voice was serious and not very pleasant.
Seb asked, "Do you think he can steal our biggest client?"
There was a pause before Randy replied, "He shouldn't be able to."
Seb said, "Then why are you going there now?"
Randy replied, "Just being cautious."
Seb frowned, "You should be figuring out why he wants to meet with our biggest client."
Randy said, "His reason is to steal that client."
Seb said, "I heard you argued with him at the bar last night?"
Randy said, "Uncle Seb, you mean he doesn't intend to steal our cooperation but wants to use this to warn me?"
Seb lightly tapped his fingers on the table, "What do you think?"
Randy replied, "I think he's trying to create the illusion of wanting to steal our cooperation, making me spend time maintaining the client. His real target is... Sophie."
Seb said, "Think for yourself. I have work to do." He hung up the phone.
Randy still needed a lot of training if he couldn't see through such a simple scheme. Daniel's return was a good opportunity to train him. With this in mind, Seb made a decision.
By noon, when Sharon came up to have lunch with him, he casually brought up Sophie and Randy.
Seb asked, "Do you think Sophie and Randy are really suitable for each other?"
Sharon paused, looking up at him, "Why bring them up suddenly?"
Seb replied, "I thought about last night, and I think a mature man would be more suitable for Sophie. Randy is still too young. If Sophie doesn't mind, I can introduce her to someone."
Hearing this, Sharon couldn't help but laugh, "You want to introduce someone to Sophie? Are you sure?"
After all, Randy was his nephew. Was it really okay for him to blatantly help someone else steal his nephew's girlfriend?
Seb nodded, "I'm sure."
Sharon said, "I can see that Sophie really likes Randy. Otherwise, she wouldn't have gotten drunk because of him. But you can leave it to me. If Randy doesn't treat Sophie well, I'll introduce someone to her."
"No." Seb refused flatly.
"Why not?" Sharon asked.
Seb replied, "If I could, I would delete all the male contacts from your phone. How could I possibly introduce new men to you?"
Sharon gave him an annoyed look, then lowered her head to eat, ignoring him.
After lunch, Seb had a meeting, so Sharon went back downstairs.
In the afternoon, while Sharon was conducting an experiment, she suddenly received a call from the hospital. "Ms. Roach, your father fell from upstairs. Please come to the hospital immediately."
Sharon hurried to the hospital, where Robert was waiting for someone to sign for surgery. With trembling hands, she signed the papers and asked the nurse about Robert's condition.
The nurse shook her head, "I don't know the specifics. We'll have to wait for the doctor to perform the surgery."
Sharon replied, "Alright."
Seb soon arrived as well. When he saw Sharon's pale face, a look of concern flashed in his eyes. "Sharon, don't worry. Everything will be fine."
Sharon said, "But I'm still scared."
Seb said, "Don't be afraid. I'll stay with you."
After what felt like an eternity, the door to the operating room finally opened, and the doctor came out. "The surgery was successful, but the patient is old, and his bones are fragile and broke easily. He will need a long recovery period, possibly a year or more, for the fracture to heal properly."
Sharon breathed a sigh of relief, "Okay, I understand. Thank you, doctor!"
Soon, Robert was wheeled out. Seeing Robert with his eyes closed and his face pale, Sharon felt a pang of sadness.
If she hadn't agreed to let him live alone and had insisted he stay with them, he wouldn't have fallen down the stairs. Feeling guilty, she looked down.
Seb noticed her emotions and gently comforted her, "Sharon, these things are unpredictable. Don't blame yourself too much."
Sharon replied, "Okay."
After the nurse took Robert to his room and explained some precautions, she left.
Sharon stood at the door of the room for a while, and once she confirmed that Robert's condition was stable, she finally felt relieved.
She looked at Seb, "You have a lot of work at the company. You should go back. I'll stay here."
Seb said, "It's okay. I'll stay with you. I can do the work tomorrow."
They sat on the chairs outside the room, neither of them speaking for a while. Over an hour later, Robert woke up.
Sharon quickly called the nurse, who came to check on him and then instructed Sharon, "No food or water for the next six hours. After that, he can start with liquids."
"Okay," Sharon replied.
After giving the instructions, the nurse hurried away.
Sharon sat by the bed, "Dad, how are you feeling? Does the wound hurt?"
Robert said, "It doesn't hurt."
Seeing that Robert was in good spirits, Sharon asked, "You usually walk very carefully. How did you suddenly fall down the stairs?"
A look of discomfort flashed in Robert's eyes, "Karen came to see me today. I tried to make her leave, but she wouldn't go. We ended up pushing each other, and I accidentally fell down the stairs."
Hearing this, Sharon frowned, "She came to bother you again!"
And when she arrived earlier, she didn't see Karen at all. If it weren't for her, Robert wouldn't have fallen down the stairs, yet she didn't even come to check on him!
Robert was silent for a moment, then said softly, "Ultimately, it was my carelessness. You can't blame her."
Hearing this, Sharon couldn't suppress her anger, "How can you not blame her? If she hadn't come to see you, you wouldn't have fallen down the stairs. At your age, you shouldn't have to suffer like this! I won't let this go!"
With that, she took out her phone to call the police. Robert wanted to stop her, but the anesthesia hadn't worn off yet, and he had no strength. "Sharon, don't call the police."
Seeing Robert's trembling hand, Sharon's eyes turned cold, "She caused you to fall down the stairs, and she didn't even show up during your surgery. Do you want to pretend nothing happened?"
Robert replied, "I fell down the stairs myself. Even if you call the police, it won't do much good. Besides, she has the Bridges family behind her now. I don't want you to get into trouble with them because of me."
Sharon's grip on her phone tightened. If it were just her, she wouldn't be afraid of offending the Bridges family. But now that she was with Seb, her actions represented Seb to some extent. Since Seb had business dealings with the Bridges Group, she didn't want to make things difficult for him.
As she hesitated about whether to contact Karen for a private settlement, Seb took her hand, "Sharon, don't worry about anything. Do what you want to do. I'll always support you."
Looking into Seb's gentle and firm eyes, Sharon felt a wave of emotion. "Seb, thank you!"
"If this incident blows up, it will be good. Karen won't dare to bother your dad again. Besides, we've already offended the Bridges family before. One more time won't make a difference," Seb said.
"Okay." Sharon nodded and called the police.
The police reviewed the surveillance footage from Robert's door and saw that there was indeed conflicts between the two. They immediately contacted Karen to come to the police station for a statement. Robert's statement was taken directly in the hospital room. As a family member, Sharon had to go to the police station with the officers.
As soon as she walked into the police station, she saw Leo sitting in the waiting area, her eyes immediately turning cold.
Leo also saw her and immediately walked over, "Sharon, I asked my mom about Mr. Wright's fall. It was an accident. She was too anxious and didn't know what to do. She called for an ambulance and then left."
Sharon's expression was icy, "If she hadn't gone to see my dad, he wouldn't have fallen down the stairs. And she went to see him to get the demolition compensation for that house, right? Wasn't the money my dad spent on you two enough? Now that she's a wealthy lady, she still wants to take money from my dad?"
Leo changed his expression, looking at her in disbelief. "Sharon, how can you say that about me and my mom? Mr. Wright did spend a lot of money on us, but after you fell into the sea, I paid for his medical expenses. My mom also took care of him diligently. Do our efforts mean nothing to you?"
