Chapter 295 What Kind of Price Do You Want My Son to Pay?
Everyone turned to the door at the same time, spotting Seb's icy expression.
His cold stare zeroed in on the hand clutching Demetrius's collar. Aurora felt a shiver run down her spine and quickly let go of Demetrius.
In that moment, she had a gut feeling that the guy in front of her might just chop off her hand.
Even though it was just a hunch, one look from him was enough to scare her stiff.
Sharon rushed to catch Demetrius, her eyes full of worry. "Demetrius, are you okay?"
Demetrius shook his head. "Mom, I'm fine."
But he couldn't help sneaking a glance at Seb, his eyes flickering with something strange.
Back when other kids bullied him, it was always just Sharon standing up for him. He used to wish so hard that his dad would show up and teach those bullies a lesson.
Now that his dad was actually here, his feelings were all over the place.
On one hand, he wanted Seb to protect him and Sharon, but on the other, he knew Seb hated Sharon, and Sharon didn't like Seb either.
While Demetrius was lost in thought, Seb had already walked over, his eyes cold as he looked at Aurora. "Repeat what you just said about my son."
Aurora didn't dare meet his gaze, but she was still fuming. "Did I say anything wrong? Look at how badly my son got beaten!"
She yanked Bennie, who was hiding behind her, and pinched his arm hard. Bennie instantly started bawling.
Pointing to her son, Aurora shouted, "See for yourself, my son's face and body are covered in bruises. If Ms. Tovar hadn't stepped in, who knows what would've happened to him? If you don't apologize and compensate us today, I won't let this slide!"
Aurora's husband was the manager of the business department at Evergreen Construction Co.
And she had found out that Demetrius's mom was just a small-time drug researcher. The guy in front of her looked tough, but with Sharon's status, she probably didn't know any big shots.
Seb ignored her and turned to Demetrius. "Why were you fighting?"
Demetrius's eyes were filled with tears, but he tried hard to hold them back. He turned his head away and didn't say a word.
Seb frowned and was about to speak when Sharon squatted down in front of Demetrius, looking him in the eye and gently saying, "Demetrius, I'm here. Don't be afraid. Can you tell me why you were fighting?"
Demetrius lowered his head, and after a long while, he said in a low voice, "He called me a bastard and said I don't have a dad. He was mocking me."
Sharon's eyes turned cold, and she nodded. "Okay, I understand."
She gently patted Demetrius's head, stood up, and looked at Aurora. "Ma'am, you heard it too. Your son insulted Demetrius first. If anyone should apologize, it should be your son."
Aurora sneered, crossing her arms. "Just because your son said it, it's true? Even if my son said it, so what?"
Sharon looked at Callie. "Where did they fight? There should be surveillance cameras at school, right?"
Callie looked troubled. "There are cameras, but they broke yesterday. They won't be fixed until at least tomorrow."
Hearing this, Aurora's expression instantly changed from panic to smugness. "Now that there's no surveillance, it's your word against mine. Anyway, I won't let this matter go easily!"
Callie couldn't help but gently tug Aurora's sleeve, signaling with her eyes for her to stop talking nonsense.
Aurora had no clue that the man in front of her, Seb, was the president of Silvercrest Group, the same guy who had just donated a building to Demetrius' school. Callie, on the other hand, knew that if Aurora kept causing a scene, her job might be on the line, even if she didn't fully understand why the president of Silvercrest Group was claiming to be Demetrius's dad.
But Aurora missed all the signals and snapped at her, "Ms. Tovar, my son got beaten up so badly this time. Demetrius has to pay the price!"
Seb's lips curled into a smile, but anyone who knew him could tell he was furious.
Seb asked, "What kind of price do you want my son to pay?"
Aurora thought she had him scared and sneered, "Apologize to my son, promise never to hit him again, and pay us $20,000 for medical expenses!"
Seb nodded, "Anything else? Shouldn't your son go to the hospital for a check-up? There might be internal injuries."
Aurora was taken aback, not expecting Seb to be so agreeable all of a sudden.
But she quickly got even more self-righteous, "Of course, he needs a check-up. Demetrius must learn his lesson so he won't dare to hit other kids again!"
"Alright." Seb looked at Paul beside him and said, "Take them to the hospital for a check-up."
Paul nodded. "Yes, Mr. Smith."
On the way to the hospital, Paul had already dug up all the info on Bennie and his family.
Paul handed a tablet to Seb and said, "Mr. Smith, the kid who fought with Demetrius is Bennie Lester. His dad, Noe Lester, is the business department manager at Evergreen Construction Co., a subsidiary of Silvercrest Group. He's pretty capable and even gave a toast at the company's celebration banquet before."
Noe?
Seb thought for a moment but couldn't recall him.
He ordered, "Then get him to the hospital too. If he can't manage his own family, how can he manage a big department?"
Paul took the tablet back and nodded, knowing that if this wasn't handled well, Noe might lose his job.
As soon as Aurora got to the hospital, she demanded the doctor run every test imaginable on Bennie. Anyone watching might've thought she was there for a full-body check-up.
During the tests, she even coached Bennie to act hurt, leaving the doctor rolling his eyes.
After the tests, when the results showed nothing more than minor scrapes, Aurora's face turned sour. She grabbed the doctor, demanding, "What's wrong with these test results? My son is badly injured, and this doesn't even count as a minor injury? Are you in cahoots with Sharon?"
The doctor frowned, "Ma'am, please let go of me. We're a public hospital, and the chances of a mistake in the test results are very small. When you brought the child in, we already told you these were just scrapes and would heal in a few days. They can't be classified as minor injuries."
"Impossible! You must have been bribed! I want my son checked again!" Her shouting quickly drew a crowd.
Seeing the onlookers, she got even more riled up, convinced that escalating the situation would work in her favor.
Thinking this, she sat down on the ground, yelling, "My son was beaten like this, and the hospital's assessment doesn't even qualify as a minor injury. Even the hospital staff have been bribed to side with the culprit who beat my son. I want justice!"
Just as she finished, an angry voice came from the back of the crowd.
"Aurora, have you had enough?"
