Chapter 305 Don't Give up on Me
Sharon gritted her teeth and shot daggers at him. "Seb, you jerk!"
"Fifty seconds left," he said, his face like ice, eyes colder than a freezer.
"Fine, I agree." Sharon's eyes were full of desperate determination; she couldn't stand the thought of losing Demetrius again.
Seb didn't even flinch at her surrender. "He's in room 302," he said, still cold as ever.
Without another glance at him, Sharon rushed to the room.
When she got to the door, she stopped, took a deep breath, and with shaky hands, turned the knob and pushed it open.
Even though she tried to prepare herself, her eyes still welled up when she saw Demetrius.
She hadn't expected him to look so thin and lifeless in just a few days.
"Demetrius," she said, her voice breaking as tears filled her eyes.
Demetrius turned his head, disbelief written all over his face. When he saw Sharon, his dull eyes suddenly sparkled. "Mom!"
He jumped off the bed and ran to her, and she quickly squatted down to catch him.
"I'm here, don't be scared. I won't leave you again, and I won't let anyone take you away," she reassured him, her voice soft and soothing.
As soon as Demetrius smelled his mom's familiar scent, his tears started falling. "Mom, I missed you so much."
"I missed you too. Don't cry," Sharon said, gently patting his back until he calmed down.
"Mom, are you here to take me home? I don't want to stay here anymore. I want to go home..." Demetrius pleaded, his voice trembling.
Sharon hesitated for a moment, then softly said, "We can't go home right now. You need to stay in the hospital to get better. Once you're better, we'll go home."
"But I don't want to stay here. I hate that bad dad. I don't want him to be my dad!" he cried, his voice filled with frustration.
"Okay, but you need to get better first, and you have to promise me you won't do anything dangerous again," Sharon said firmly. "When I heard you jumped from the second floor, I was scared to death."
As she spoke, Sharon picked him up and put him back on the bed.
"That's because he wouldn't let me see you and locked me up!" Demetrius pouted.
Sharon frowned. "But hurting yourself won't get you what you want. Have you forgotten what I taught you?"
Demetrius looked down, feeling guilty. "No matter what happens, protecting myself is the most important thing."
"Then why did you do it?" Sharon asked, her voice filled with concern.
Demetrius pouted. "Because I wanted to see you, Mom. I don't want to be away from you."
Seeing his tears about to fall again, Sharon's heart softened. "Alright, let's not talk about it now. I promise I won't leave you again, okay?"
Demetrius nodded faintly.
Just then, the door opened, and Rufus walked in with a food box. "Ms. Roach, Mr. Smith asked me to bring this. Demetrius hasn't eaten in days."
Sharon took it. "Thank you."
"You're welcome. I'll be right outside. Call me if you need anything."
"Okay."
After Rufus left, Sharon put the food box on the table next to the bed, opened it, and set the food in front of Demetrius.
Seeing it was just simple food, Demetrius looked disappointed and pouted, "Mom, I want fried chicken."
"Not now," Sharon said gently. "You need to eat light while you're in the hospital. Once you're out, I'll make it for you, okay?"
Demetrius pouted but nodded.
As he ate his porridge, Sharon's phone rang. It was Zachary. "Sharon, how's it going in Metropolis? Did you find Demetrius?"
Sharon lowered her eyes, got up, and walked to the window. "I found him," she said softly.
Zachary's tone turned anxious. "What's wrong? Did something happen?"
After a pause, Sharon said, "Seb won't give Demetrius back to me. He says I can't protect him well. The condition for staying with Demetrius is moving into his villa."
There was a moment of silence on the other end.
Sharon bit her lip. "I agreed, Zachary. Maybe we should..."
Zachary cut her off. "Sharon, I know you had no choice. Once I finish up here in Aidamore, I'll come to Metropolis, and we can figure out what to do next, okay?"
"Zachary, I don't want to drag you down," Sharon whispered, her voice trembling.
"You're not a burden to me," Zachary reassured her. "I've waited five years to stand by your side. I don't want to give up, so please don't give up on me so easily, okay?"
Guilt and sadness washed over her. "Okay," she said seriously.
After hanging up, Sharon put her phone away and turned around, only to find Seb staring at her with cold eyes.
She frowned. "When did you come in?"
Seb replied coolly, "When you were on the phone by the window."
Sharon frowned but didn't say anything. She walked to the bed and sat down, the room filled with the sound of Demetrius eating porridge.
Seb's gaze drifted to Sharon. Her long hair was tied in a ponytail, her head slightly lowered, revealing a smooth forehead. She wore a simple white dress, unintentionally drawing his attention.
He still couldn't believe he had been so desperate for a woman like her five years ago.
No matter how he thought about it, it seemed impossible.
His mind flashed back to her gentle voice while talking to Zachary, and his brows furrowed. "There's something I need to remind you of."
Sharon looked up, confused. "What?"
Seb's voice turned cold. "Who you're with is your business, not mine. But if you marry someone else and start a new family, I won't let you take Demetrius."
Sharon frowned. "Mr. Smith, are you saying you're willing to stay single for Demetrius's sake?"
Seb scoffed. "Of course not."
Sharon's eyes narrowed. "Then what right do you have to stop me from taking Demetrius? If you marry someone else and have children, can you guarantee you'll always put Demetrius first?"
Seb hesitated, then replied firmly, "I can't guarantee that, but I can provide Demetrius with better education and resources. His life with me will be much smoother than with you."
Sharon sneered, put down her phone, and looked him in the eye. "Mr. Smith, your life may be smooth, but do you think you're free? Are you happy now?"
Seb's eyes narrowed with a hint of danger, and his voice carried anger. "It's none of your business."
Sharon's tone softened but remained firm. "Quite right. The most important thing for me is that Demetrius grows up freely and happily."
