Chapter 188 Do You Think the Smith Family Will Let Me Go?
Ava's eyes went wide with fear.
"Who the hell are you? What are you talking about?"
The voice on the other end chuckled. "Ms. Kim, you know if it's nonsense or not. If you're not here in an hour, you'll regret it."
The call ended, snapping Ava out of her shock.
She started pacing, her mind racing.
'I took care of Gerald Morgan. No one should know. How did they find out? If Alex finds out the kid isn't his, he'd never forgive me.'
The more she thought, the more panicked she got.
But there was no time to waste. It'd take at least half an hour to get to Velvet Sky Bistro. Whether they had evidence or not, she had to go.
Taking a deep breath, Ava grabbed her car keys and headed out.
Forty minutes later, she arrived at Velvet Sky Bistro.
A waiter approached her as she walked in.
"Ms. Kim, I'll take you there."
The waiter, in a suit with a polite smile, led her inside.
Velvet Sky Bistro was a fancy place in Metropolis. Alex had brought her here once for a business meeting. Back then, Ava was just his subordinate. She was shocked to see an appetizer cost more than her monthly salary.
Fresh out of college, Ava had never been to such a high-end place and didn't know the etiquette. The meal was a disaster.
She felt the disdainful looks from the other company’s people. Someone even suggested Alex get a secretary with better manners. Ava had never felt so humiliated and thought Alex would fire her.
The deal fell through, and Ava felt she had embarrassed Alex. On the way back, she kept apologizing, begging him not to fire her.
Seeing her near tears, Alex gently assured her he wouldn't fire her and that the failed deal wasn't her fault.
Ava had never been treated so kindly before, and she fell for Alex right then.
If she hadn't been with Alex for a year without getting pregnant, she wouldn't have had an affair with Gerald.
Thinking of this, Ava's face darkened.
Whoever called her here must be important.
But why hadn't they just told Alex?
Walking down the long corridor, Ava finally reached Private Room One.
"Ms. Kim, we're here."
Ava nodded and pushed the door open.
The room was simply decorated but everything was top-notch, worth millions.
Her eyes landed on the person sitting in the center. When she saw it was Grace, her pupils contracted sharply.
"It's you!"
Grace smiled. "Surprised to see me, Ms. Kim?"
Ava sneered. "Grace, we have nothing to do with each other. Why did you call me here?"
Seeing Ava's anger, Grace raised an eyebrow. "Ms. Kim, since you're here, have a seat. But I suggest you control your temper. If you anger me, you'll regret it."
Ava gritted her teeth, thought for a moment, and then sat down.
"What do you want?"
Grace smiled. "Ms. Kim, don't be mad. I'm here to help you."
"Help me?"
Ava looked at Grace like she was joking, her gaze mocking.
"What can you help me with?"
"To help you become Alex's wife."
"I'm already married to him. Want to see the marriage certificate?"
Grace looked at Ava indifferently. "Besides that, what else do you have? From what I know, no one in the Smith family, including Alex, takes you seriously."
Ava's hands clenched, her face darkening.
"Miss Hall, mind your own business. I heard your family background isn't great either. You probably couldn't even get that marriage certificate you wanted!"
Grace's calm expression cracked, her gaze turning cold.
"Seems Ms. Kim doesn't want to talk nicely."
"I have nothing to say to you."
Grace nodded. "Fine, let's talk about Gerald Morgan."
At the mention of Gerald, Ava's face went pale, her gaze at Grace filled with disbelief.
'Grace knows about Gerald!' Ava thought.
Her hands trembled with fear.
Grace smiled. "Ms. Kim, don't be afraid. Do what I say, and I can make the Smith family acknowledge you and keep your secret."
Ava stayed silent, her face cold, eyes downcast, lost in thought.
Grace wasn't in a hurry. She sipped her tea, a faint trace of mockery on her face.
After a long time, Ava finally looked up, clearly tempted.
Ava wanted the Smith family to acknowledge her. Though married to Alex, they never asked to meet her, and Alex didn't care about her.
Ava wasn't stupid. She knew once she had the baby, Alex might kick her out.
So, she had to plan for herself.
"Can you really help me?"
Grace nodded. "Of course."
After hesitating, Ava relented. "Alright, I agree. What do I need to do?"
"You saw the photo of Alex holding Sharon this morning, right? As Alex's wife, you need to blow this up and let everyone know Sharon's trying to break up your marriage."
Ava's gaze turned cold. "Doing this won't help me."
Though married to Alex, many knew her past as a mistress, and Sharon had evidence.
If things blew up, no one would sympathize with her; she'd be scolded terribly.
"No wonder you've been with Alex so long and still aren't accepted by the Smith family."
Grace's mocking tone made Ava's face change.
"Do you think your idea is so brilliant?"
Impatience flashed in Grace's eyes. If it weren't inconvenient for her to handle this herself, she wouldn't waste time on this self-righteous fool.
"Few know about your marriage to Alex, which is why the Smith family hasn't acknowledged you. Once everyone knows you're married and pregnant with Alex's child, what can the Smith family do even if they're unhappy? They'd have to acknowledge you."
"If things blow up, the Smith family will be embarrassed. Do you think they'll let me off?"
