Chapter 296 Make a Scene
Aurora's eyes widened in shock as she saw Noe pushing through the crowd, his face twisted with anger.
Guilt washed over her as she quickly stood up, feeling a bit lost. "Honey, what are you doing here?"
Noe's face was dark, barely holding back his anger. "If I didn't come, who knows what mess you'd get into? Can't you just stay home and not make a scene?"
His eyes were filled with undisguised disgust.
Aurora used to work for Noe. After a company dinner, she set him up and slept with him, then vanished the next day.
Noe searched for her for a while but eventually gave up.
Six months later, Aurora reappeared, pregnant and holding a fetal gender identification report.
Noe's mom had always wanted a grandson and pushed Noe to marry her.
At first, Noe was reluctant, but after they got married, Aurora was always very considerate, so he decided to try and live a peaceful life with her.
But the good times didn't last. Shortly after Bennie was born, Aurora showed her true colors—extremely controlling, checking Noe's phone every day. If she saw him chatting with any woman, she'd argue with him and sometimes cause trouble at his company, leaving Noe exhausted.
Gradually, Noe grew more and more disgusted with her, and they had been sleeping in separate rooms for years.
He gave her most of his salary every month, just hoping she'd take good care of Bennie at home.
Aurora had just caused a scene at his company not long ago, and after a brief period of peace, she was now causing trouble at the hospital.
Aurora gritted her teeth, her temper flaring up. "Bennie got beaten at school today, and now you're blaming me for embarrassing myself? I gave birth to Bennie for you. Noe, you can't be heartless!"
Noe didn't want to argue, gritting his teeth. "I already talked to Ms. Tovar at the preschool on my way here. She said Bennie insulted Demetrius first, and Demetrius got hurt too. Now, take Bennie and apologize to Demetrius with me."
He grabbed Bennie and was about to leave, but Aurora slapped his hand away, yelling angrily, "Noe, I'm telling you, I will never take Bennie to apologize! If you force me, I'll expose everything you did to me online. Let's see if you can still keep your manager position then!"
Seeing Aurora's aggressive gaze, Noe felt a wave of exhaustion.
On his way here, he already knew Bennie had insulted the son of the Silvercrest Group's president and guessed his position was likely lost.
He had planned to apologize with Aurora and Bennie and then resign voluntarily, but now that seemed impossible.
Seeing Noe's silence, Aurora's eyes gleamed with triumph. She knew his job was everything to him. Every time they argued, all she had to do was bring it up, and he'd back down.
After a long pause, Noe finally spoke, "If you want to say it, go ahead. I can't live like this anymore."
Aurora's face twisted as she grabbed him. "What do you mean? Are you really going to abandon Bennie and me over this?"
Noe looked at her, feeling utterly helpless.
For years, she never understood him, never realized why they ended up like this.
Besides handling the heavy workload at the company, he had to deal with the chaos she created at home every day. He was truly exhausted.
He said, "The house, car, and savings are all for you and Bennie. I don't want anything."
With that, he pushed the stunned Aurora aside and walked away.
Watching his resolute back, Aurora finally panicked.
She hurriedly caught up and blocked him. "Honey, I was wrong. Don't leave Bennie and me. I promise to apologize, okay? Don't do this to us."
Noe looked at her, expressionless. "Let's get a divorce. I'll prepare the papers, and you just need to sign them."
"No!" Aurora's eyes filled with tears, full of confusion and disbelief. She couldn't understand how a simple fight between Bennie and a classmate could lead to a divorce.
She didn't realize this was just the last straw in a long, frustrating life.
Every unreasonable tantrum she threw was a prelude to Noe's sudden outburst today, yet she thought it was just because of this small matter.
Aurora shouted, "I don't want a divorce! Noe, don't think you can get rid of Bennie and me. I know you've been chatting a lot with your new assistant at the company. She even calls you after work under the pretense of asking about work. Don't think I'll let you two be together!"
"Think whatever you want, but I'm definitely getting this divorce." After today's events, he realized that staying with Aurora would only drag his life down.
Aurora threatened, "If you dare to divorce, I'll take Bennie and jump from the hospital today!"
With that, she picked up Bennie and ran quickly to the end of the corridor. Noe's face changed, and he chased after her, but he was a step too late.
Seeing Aurora pressing the struggling Bennie against the window, Noe's face turned pale with fear. "Aurora, are you crazy? Put Bennie down now!"
Aurora sneered, her eyes wild with madness. "If you mention divorce again, I'll throw Bennie down and then jump myself!"
Noe stared at her, his anger boiling over, his chest heaving.
Aurora was out of her mind!
Bennie, terrified by Aurora's fierce expression, burst into tears, drawing the attention of Seb and the others.
Seeing Aurora's craziness, Sharon quickly covered Demetrius's eyes and looked at Seb. "You handle this, I'll take Demetrius downstairs."
Their eyes met, and Seb nodded. "Okay."
After Sharon left with Demetrius, Seb turned to Noe, his expression cold. "What's going on?"
He had asked Noe to handle the fight between Bennie and Demetrius, but now Aurora was threatening to jump.
Noe's face was full of shame as he lowered his head. "Mr. Smith, I'll handle this and give you a satisfactory answer."
Seb frowned, his cold gaze sweeping over Aurora and the still-crying Bennie, but he said nothing.
Noe took a deep breath, his eyes now calm as he looked at Aurora. "Put Bennie down first. I won't mention divorce anymore."
Aurora's face lit up, but there was still hesitation.
Seeing her hesitation, Noe spoke again. "I promise."
With this assurance, Aurora finally put Bennie down. Bennie, pale with fear, fell to the ground and wet his pants.
Noe looked at Seb, his face grim. "Mr. Smith, I'm sorry for the embarrassment. I'll bring my son and wife to apologize another day. As for the position of manager at Evergreen Construction Co., I'm afraid I won't be able to..."
Before he could finish, Seb interrupted. "Mr. Lester, Silvercrest Group values ability. As long as this matter is handled properly, it won't affect your job. However, you'd better strike a balance between your family and work."
Noe's eyes lit up instantly, and he quickly promised, "Mr. Smith, rest assured, I'll take this as a lesson, and it will never happen again!"
Seb nodded and turned to leave.
Noe walked over to Bennie, pulling him up from the ground. "In a few days, I'll take you to apologize to Demetrius."
Aurora, standing nearby, called out, "Honey."
Noe turned and slapped her hard, knocking her to the ground.
She covered her face, looking at Noe in disbelief. "How dare you hit me!"
Noe's voice was cold. "If you want to die, do it yourself. Don't take Bennie with you!"
With that, Noe pulled the still-trembling Bennie away.
Aurora covered her face, eyes blazing with anger, but she gritted her teeth and followed them.
Meanwhile, Seb walked out of the hospital and spotted Sharon and Demetrius. His gaze softened as he approached them.
Sharon was squatting down, applying medicine to Demetrius. Despite her gentle touch, Demetrius still winced in pain.
Suddenly, Demetrius's eyes focused on something behind Sharon.
Sharon turned to see Seb's long legs, followed by his handsome face.
"Mom, Dad is here," Demetrius whispered.
Hearing Demetrius call Seb "Dad" instinctively, Sharon's hand holding the cotton swab tightened slowly.
Although Demetrius didn't say it, Sharon knew he still wanted his father around.
Collecting her thoughts, she stood up and looked at Seb. "Mr. Smith, thank you for today."
Seeing the coldness in her eyes, Seb's gaze also turned cold. "Demetrius is my son; it's what I should do."
Sharon forced a smile. "In the future, we won't trouble you with such matters. After all, you're quite busy."
Seb didn't want to argue and said in a deep voice, "I'll take you home."
Sharon wanted to refuse, but seeing the hopeful look in Demetrius's eyes, she gave in. "Okay."
On the way back, Sharon kept thinking about whether it was too unfair to Demetrius to keep him away from Seb.
It wasn't until Demetrius called her several times that she snapped back to reality.
"Mom, we're home now. What were you thinking about so deeply?"
Sharon smiled. "Nothing, let's get out of the car."
She got out first, and as she helped Demetrius out, Seb was already holding Demetrius's backpack.
Noticing that, Sharon pressed her lips together but said nothing and led Demetrius towards home.
Inside the elevator, there was a wave of silence, with only the sound of its operation.
Demetrius's eyes kept darting between Seb and Sharon, as if he was thinking about something.
Sharon, expressionless, looked down and didn't notice his small movements.
When the elevator doors opened, Sharon was about to lead Demetrius out. But she froze when she saw Zachary.
Zachary stood there, eyes filled with disbelief as he looked at them.
At that moment, in the elevator, Sharon was holding Demetrius's hand, and Seb was carrying Demetrius's backpack, looking like a happy family of three.
Even though Zachary knew Sharon wouldn't have any contact with Seb while they were together, this scene still stung his eyes.
