Chapter 451 I Underestimated Randy

Ariana nodded. "Alright, got it. Thanks."

Floyd stood up. "Okay, I still have work to do, so I'm heading out."

After Floyd left, Ariana stared at the box in her hand, looking puzzled. She thought for a bit and tried her birthday as the password, but it didn't work.

She then tried a bunch of passwords related to Kirk, but none of them worked either, and the password lock ended up getting locked for two hours.

Ariana couldn't think of any other possible passwords, so she just put the box away and got up to leave.

Meanwhile, word had already started spreading within the company that the Smith Group was using non-compliant building materials.

Rolf was in a meeting with his team, discussing next month's work plan when he heard the news.

"Mr. McCall, you... you should see this," Assistant Anson Thibodeaux said, handing him the phone.

Rolf's expression changed when he saw the screen, but he quickly composed himself. "Got it. Let's not worry about this right now. Let's continue the meeting."

Everyone was curious about what Anson had shown Rolf, but no one dared to ask. Rolf was usually very serious, making them a bit afraid of him.

The meeting wrapped up after more than an hour.

Rolf left the conference room in a hurry, which was very unlike his usual calm demeanor.

Everyone looked at Anson, and someone finally asked, "Mr. Thibodeaux, what happened? Why did Mr. McCall leave so quickly?"

Anson calmly organized the documents, then looked up and smiled, "It's nothing that concerns us. Just focus on your work and don't worry about it."

With that, Anson left with the documents, leaving everyone confused and looking at each other.

Rolf went back to his office, locked the door, and immediately called Daniel. "Mr. Thomas, those non-compliant building materials have already been used, and a lot of people in the Smith Group know about it. I think Randy knows too."

"It's too late now. The market supervision department has already sent people to investigate," Daniel said, his tone flat.

He had planned to deal with the Smith Group when their project was halfway done, but Randy found out about the building materials issue sooner than expected, so he had to act earlier.

Rolf was silent for a moment, then asked, "Mr. Thomas, will this be traced back to me?"

If it was, he would not only be fired by the Smith Group but also have his reputation ruined, and no company in Metropolis would hire him.

Even though Daniel had promised him a high-paying job at the Thomas Group if he provided some inside information about the Smith Group, Rolf didn't trust him completely, so he asked Daniel for five million dollars upfront.

Plus, his uncle was a shareholder in the Smith Group, and he had gotten his job through connections. If he implicated his uncle, their families would be at odds. Thinking about this, Rolf started to regret agreeing to work with Daniel.

Daniel chuckled, "What if it is discovered? You can come to the Thomas Group. I promised to double your salary. What are you afraid of?"

Rolf gritted his teeth. "Mr. Thomas, I've thought about it. This is too risky. I'll return the money, and you can find someone else to help you. I'll pretend I don't know anything about this."

There was a few seconds of silence on the other end of the phone, then Daniel's cold voice came through, "Mr. McCall, isn't it a bit too late to say this after you've taken my money?"

Rolf replied, "I'll give you back the money! I won't tell anyone about your private dealings."

Daniel sneered, "From the moment you took my money, there was no turning back. Besides, this matter won't affect my plan at all, but if Randy knows you're betraying the Smith Group, not only Randy but your uncle won't let you off the hook."

Rolf's face turned pale. "Mr. Thomas, are you threatening me?"

Daniel retorted, "Mr. McCall, don't get it twisted. We're in this together now. I won't do anything to you, but if you try to bail, don't blame me for what happens next."

With that, Daniel hung up. He was confident Rolf would come to his senses.

Listening to the busy tone, Rolf angrily slammed his phone on the table and cursed. "Daniel is a shameless scoundrel! I was blinded by the money and got on his pirate ship!"

After venting his anger, Rolf knew he had no choice but to see this through and started thinking about his next move. After a while, he realized something was off about today's incident.

How did the news about the Smith Group's building materials spread so quickly?

The materials had only been used for a few days. Even if someone discovered the problem, they would go to Randy first, not spreading it to the employees. The more he thought about it, the more suspicious it seemed.

He quickly called Daniel, but after several attempts, Daniel didn't answer. It was working hours, and he couldn't just leave, so he waited anxiously, hoping Daniel would see his message and call back soon.

On the other side, Daniel saw Rolf's calls but didn't intend to answer. Ignoring Rolf for a few days would make him realize his own capabilities.

Around three in the afternoon, Secretary Rocco Hightower hurriedly knocked on the office door and walked in, "Mr. Thomas, something happened!"

Daniel frowned and scolded coldly, "What happened to make you so flustered?"

Rocco replied, "Mr. Thomas, the Smith Group's legal team is here."

Daniel's eyes flashed with displeasure. "What is their legal team here for?"

Rocco hesitated, "They said... they want to sue the Thomas Group..."

Daniel raised an eyebrow and sneered, "Is Randy out of his mind?"

As soon as he finished speaking, a man in a suit carrying a briefcase walked out from behind Rocco. "Mr. Thomas, you are suspected of slandering the Smith Group for using non-compliant building materials. The Smith Group has decided to sue. This is the lawyer's letter."

Daniel squinted his eyes, took the lawyer's letter handed over by the other party, and glanced at it before throwing it directly on the ground. "Accusing me of slandering the Smith Group, do you have any evidence?"

The other party smiled slightly, "Mr. Thomas, rest assured, I naturally have evidence. You can take a look at this first."

He handed another document to Daniel. Daniel casually took it, glanced at it, and his face suddenly turned dark.

He chuckled and looked at the Smith Group's legal team with eyes as cold as ice. "I really underestimated Randy. He even found this!"
