Chapter 56 How Can a Married Couple Live Apart

Seb looked up at Paul, his expression cold as he said, "Got it."

Seeing his indifferent look, Paul felt that telling him this was a bit redundant.

After reminding him about the ten o'clock meeting, Paul turned and left.

At noon, Sharon took her meal card to the cafeteria.

As soon as she walked in, she was astonished by the luxuriousness of the cafeteria.

Looking around, she saw that every food station offered exquisitely prepared dishes that were visually appealing.

Moreover, the prices were incredibly low, almost comparable to her university cafeteria.

There were three floors in the cafeteria, with a variety of foods including western cuisine and other niche specialties.

Sharon queued at a bustling specialty food station, collected her fragrant dish, and found a cozy corner seat overlooking the room

After tasting the soup, her eyes widened in surprise. It was so delicious.

There had been online discussions about the Silvercrest Group cafeteria being delicious, which Sharon had thought was exaggerated, but it turned out to be true.

And the prices here were almost like getting it for free.

Sharon was so focused on her meal that she didn't notice the curious and admiring glances around her.

Soon, news of a beautiful new hire spread in the company's internal group chat, along with a candid photo of her profile circulating in various department groups. Everyone was curious about which department she belonged to.

Unaware that she had become a topic of discussion among Silvercrest Group employees, Sharon returned to the lab after finishing her meal.

Soon, someone approached Paul to ask about Sharon.

The small group chat in the CEO's office was buzzing, with everyone tagging Paul to ask about Sharon.

Unknown: [Mr. Harris, who is that beautiful woman you personally escorted for onboarding today? The whole company is curious about which department she belongs to.]

Unknown: [Yeah, and I saw you being quite courteous to her today. Is she a relative of some high-ranking executive?]

Unknown: [I saw her this morning too. She's really a rare beauty; even I, as a woman, couldn't help but take a second look.]

Reading the messages in the group, Paul was surprised.

He didn't expect Sharon to cause such a stir on her first day at Silvercrest Group.

After a moment of thought, he replied in the group.

Paul: [Stop guessing. She's a research and development specialist sent over from Medica Care International Pharmaceuticals, and she has a boyfriend.]

After sending this message, he closed the chat software and continued reviewing documents.

Back in the lab, Sharon began her afternoon experiment. Once the reaction started, she sat beside it, timing and recording the experiment.

It was then that Alex's message came through.

Alex: [I'm downstairs at Silvercrest Group. Come down immediately, or I'll come up to find you.]

Sharon frowned, surprised that Alex had found out so quickly about her job at Silvercrest Group.

After a moment of thought, she called him.

The call was answered after just two rings, but he remained silent.

Sharon said, "My job at Silvercrest Group is a company arrangement. There's no point in you coming to find me."

"Then you can resign." Hearing Alex's matter-of-fact tone, Sharon found it laughable.

She said, "I won't resign. If you're so afraid of something happening between Seb and me, why don't you just put a surveillance device on me?"

With that, she hung up.

If Alex dared to cause a scene at Silvercrest Group, it would not only embarrass him but also potentially offend Seb, making it a lose-lose situation for him.

In the car, Alex gripped his phone angrily, his eyes cold.

He had just warned Sharon a few days ago, and now she had the audacity to start working at Silvercrest Group. It seemed he really needed to teach her a lesson.

In the evening, Sharon had just finished cleaning the lab equipment and was about to leave when she received a call from Robert.

When she arrived at the ward, the atmosphere was tense.

Seeing her, Robert said coldly, "Sharon, you need to quit your job tomorrow."

Sharon paused and frowned at Alex, her eyes filled with anger. "What did you tell my dad?"

Before Alex could speak, Robert angrily said, "Are you questioning Alex? You've been unclear with Seb. How could you do this to him?"

Sharon's face turned pale with anger, her fingers trembling.

She couldn't believe Alex was so shameless to turn the tables on her in front of Robert.

What shocked her even more was that Robert believed him.

She said, "Dad, is that really how you see me? You didn't even bother to get my side of the story, just took Alex's word for it and assumed I betrayed him? !"

Taking a deep breath, Sharon decided not to hide Alex's infidelity anymore. "Do you know, it’s him who..."

"Sharon, Mr. Wright almost fainted from anger over your matter just now. The doctor said he can't take any more stress. Do you really want to drive him to his death?" Alex's loud voice completely drowned out Sharon's.

She clenched her fists, her hatred for Alex reaching its peak. "If you know my dad can't take any stress, why did you come here and talk nonsense?"

Alex sighed, looking helpless. "Alright, if you say there's nothing with Uncle Seb, then I'll drop it. Just move back home, and we can forget about the rest.."

Hearing this, Robert, whose emotions had just calmed down a bit, became agitated again. "You moved out!"

Taking a deep breath, Sharon said slowly, "Dad, I'll explain this to you later. Right now, your priority is to recover. Please don't get involved in our matters."

"Move back immediately. Couples shouldn't live apart!" Robert ordered.

He and Sharon's mother had divorced because they slept in separate rooms, leading to a broken relationship. He didn't want Sharon to go through the same.

Moreover, if she left Alex, given her personality, she might end up being bullied.

Alex quickly reassured Robert, "Mr. Wright, don't worry. I'll talk to Sharon again. I'm sure she'll move back in after some time."

Seeing Alex's seemingly self-sacrificing demeanor, Sharon was furious. "Alex, can you stop putting on an act and disgusting everyone?"

For Robert's health, she'd kept quiet about Alex's vile actions, but he twisted it to make her look like the problem in Robert's eyes.

Robert frowned at Sharon, about to speak, when the door opened and Karen walked in with a thermos.

Seeing Sharon and Alex there and sensing the tense atmosphere, Karen smiled. "Sharon, do you and Alex come to see your dad?"

Sharon responded curtly and looked at Alex. "Our issues shouldn't be discussed in front of the elders. Let's settle this outside."

With that, she turned and walked out of the ward.

Robert called after her, but Sharon pretended not to hear.

Karen's gaze fell on Alex, her brows furrowing.

She knew about Alex's infidelity and no longer felt the same satisfaction when she looked at him, now feeling only discontent.

Alex didn't notice Karen's look and said to Robert, "Mr. Wright, it's my fault today. Don't be angry with Sharon. I'll handle this, don't worry."

Robert sighed. "Sharon has been spoiled by me since she was little. Just for my sake, be more tolerant of her."

"Don't worry, she's my wife. I'll definitely treat her well." With that, Alex nodded to Karen and left.

As soon as he stepped out of the ward, he saw Sharon standing at the end of the corridor, clearly waiting for him.

He smirked and walked towards her.

Just as he reached her, Sharon slapped him across the face.
