Chapter 275 Why Are You So Concerned About Sharon's Affairs?
Seb stared at her, his face blank, eyes squinting a bit like he was trying to figure out if she was full of it.
Rebecca was freaking out inside but made herself keep eye contact.
Just when she thought she was gonna lose it, Seb said, "Just this once," in that icy tone of his.
As soon as Seb walked out of the private room, Rebecca slumped into the chair, drenched in cold sweat.
Seb left the restaurant and headed straight to the branch office.
At the office door, he saw Paul waiting for him.
"Mr. Smith, these need your signature."
Seb pushed the door open, walked in, and signed the papers. He looked up at Paul, "Have Rufus take these back, and you stay here. Aidamore ain't Metropolis; there are some stuff he just can't handle."
Paul lowered his eyes, hiding whatever was going on in his head. "Yes, Mr. Smith."
Paul told Rufus to take the documents back to Metropolis and handle his work.
After the handover, Rufus was about to leave when Paul called out, "Rufus, you ever seen Ms. Roach's kid?"
Rufus nodded, looking puzzled, "Yeah, but why you asking? You got a thing for Ms. Roach or something?"
Ever since Paul saw Sharon's speech video, Rufus noticed he'd been acting weird, always asking about Sharon. Paul never showed interest in any woman before, not even Seb's fiancée, Rebecca.
"No," Paul denied.
Rufus added, "Then why you so interested in Ms. Roach?"
"None of your business. Look at this pic. Is the kid in it Ms. Roach's?"
Paul handed his phone to Rufus, showing a photo of a kid about four or five, sent by his subordinate earlier.
Rufus glanced at it, frowning. "No, I only saw the kid's profile, but the face shape's different. Not the same kid."
Seeing Paul's face darken, Rufus got more confused. Why was he suddenly asking about Sharon's kid?
Paul went quiet, thinking, then showed another photo to Rufus.
Rufus's eyes widened in shock when he saw it.
He blurted, "Paul, is Ms. Roach's kid and Mr. Smith..."
Before he could finish, Paul cut him off, "Enough, don't ask what you shouldn't. Get ready to go back to Metropolis."
Rufus wanted to ask more but stopped when he saw Paul's serious look.
Being Seb's secretary for years, Rufus knew when to shut up.
Still, Sharon's kid looking so much like Seb was a shocker.
No wonder the kid's profile seemed familiar; the kid looked like Seb.
But when Seb and Sharon met, they acted like strangers. And over the years, Rufus never saw any interaction between them.
But if it was just a coincidence, Paul wouldn't be asking.
Rufus felt like he stumbled on something big but knew he had to play dumb. If this got out, his job could be toast.
After Rufus left, Paul put down his phone, deep in thought.
Given Rufus's reaction, it was pretty much a done deal that Sharon's kid was Seb's.
When Paul got the photo from his guy, he thought it might be a fake.
After all, if Sharon's kid had zilch to do with Seb, she wouldn't have agreed to meet up after getting his text.
So, he hit up Rufus, who'd seen Demetrius before, and figured out the photo was a fake Sharon put out to throw him off.
The more Sharon tried to hide the truth, the guiltier she looked, like she was scared he'd find out her kid looked like Seb.
Paul remembered how Tyler once threatened him about keeping his mouth shut about Sharon to Seb. His hand clenched without him even realizing it.
After a moment of hesitation, Paul called his guy. "The photo you sent is bogus. Tail Sharon and get a clear shot of the kid's face."
Hanging up, Paul frowned, plotting his next move.
Seb watched Paul through the one-way glass in his office, then picked up his phone and made a call. "Check what Paul's been up to lately."
The files Paul sent earlier weren't a big deal, not worth a personal trip. Plus, since he got to Aidamore two weeks ago, he'd been acting all shady. Even Seb didn't know what he was up to.
The person on the other end sounded surprised, replying with a teasing tone, "Why the sudden interest in Paul? He's been your guy for years. Anyone could betray you, but not him."
Seb's eyes darkened, and he said in a low voice, "You're talking too much."
"Alright, alright. I'll let you know if I find anything."
In just a few hours, Seb found out Paul was digging into Sharon.
Seb frowned. Sharon again.
Paul had no ties to Sharon. Why was he suddenly snooping around her?
Seb ordered, "Keep tabs on Paul. Let me know if anything new comes up."
Meanwhile, Sharon got a call from Zachary.
"Sharon, Seb's secretary is looking into Demetrius. My guys swapped Demetrius's photo with a kid from the neighboring class, but it won't fool them for long. We need to get Demetrius out of here fast."
Sharon's hand tightened, panic washing over her.
She hadn't expected Paul to not buy her story!
Over the years in Aidamore, Zachary had helped her keep Demetrius under wraps, but Demetrius had been around for five years. No matter how well they hid him, there'd be traces. Once Paul found out, Seb would too.
Thinking of this, Sharon gritted her teeth, "How's the prep on your end? Demetrius needs to be out of the country in three days."
"Three days is tight, but we can get the paperwork done. But think it through. Once Demetrius is sent abroad, you might not see him for a year. Are you really okay with that?"
In Zachary's eyes, even if Seb found out about Demetrius, it wouldn't be a big deal. Sharon had raised Demetrius alone all these years, and Seb hadn't done squat.
Plus, Seb had a fiancée now and had forgotten Sharon. He probably wouldn't care much about Demetrius.
As long as they could convince Paul, they could keep Demetrius's existence under wraps.
