Chapter 483 You Will Never See Him Again

Jerold wanted to keep eating, but after a moment of hesitation, he obediently put down his spoon.

"Okay, Mom."

Seeing how well-behaved he was, Ayla felt a pang of guilt, but it quickly faded, and her gaze became calm again.

She called over the waiter, paid the bill, and left with Jerold.

As soon as they got back to the car, Jerold started to fidget, scratching himself all over, his little face scrunched up in discomfort.

"Mom... I feel awful, I'm so itchy..."

Seeing the red spots appearing on Jerold's face, Ayla said, "I'll take you to the hospital right away."

She started the car and drove to the nearest hospital, arriving at the emergency room in less than ten minutes.

By the time they parked, Jerold's face was covered in rashes, and he was scratching so hard that his once fair skin was now full of scratch marks.

Ayla quickly opened the back door, scooped him up, and rushed into the hospital.

As soon as they entered the emergency room, a doctor approached them immediately. "What's going on?"

"Food allergy."

"Put him on the bed over there."

After Ayla placed Jerold on the bed, the doctor pulled the curtain around them.

Ayla dialed Karen's number, panic evident in her voice as she explained Jerold's allergic reaction and that they were at the hospital, urging her to come quickly.

Karen was startled and immediately called Leo.

"I got it. Which hospital? I'm on my way." Leo arrived at the hospital an hour later. By then, the doctor had already started an IV for Jerold, and he had been moved to a VIP room.

As Leo saw Jerold's face covered in scratch marks and him lying weakly on the bed, his expression turned icy cold.

He looked at Ayla with a frosty gaze. "Come with me. I need to talk to you."

Ayla didn't move, her expression just as cold. "Why can't you say it in front of Jerold?"

Leo let out a cold laugh, then grabbed her hand and dragged her out of the room without another word.

He didn't let go until they reached the end of the hallway. "Why did Jerold suddenly have an allergic reaction?"

Ayla rubbed her reddened, painful hand and looked up impatiently. "You're asking me? Leo, what right do you have to question me? You've been refusing to come home for so long. If it weren't for Jerold's allergy today, were you planning to never come back?"

"Ever since we found out Jerold is allergic to hazelnuts, we've never had any hazelnut products at home. Do I need to investigate myself?"

Facing Leo's icy gaze, a flicker of guilt flashed in Ayla's eyes, and she looked away uncomfortably.

"I just took him out for a steak tonight. The hazelnut cake was for me. Who knew he'd sneak a few bites while I was in the restroom?"

Leo's face turned mocking. "Ayla, I'll have the restaurant's surveillance footage checked to see if that's true."

Ayla's expression changed. "You don't believe me?"

"Should I?"

"You!" Ayla gritted her teeth and nodded. "Fine, if you don't believe me, then just assume it was my fault. No need to check any footage!"

"I only trust the footage."

Seeing Leo's determined look, Ayla's hand clenched at her side, her emotions on the verge of exploding.

She took a deep breath and glared at Leo. "Yes! I did it because I knew you wouldn't come to see me otherwise! Leo, this is all your fault. Your selfishness put Jerold in this situation!"

Leo's face remained expressionless, his gaze indifferent, as if he were looking at a stranger.

His lack of reaction only made Ayla more agitated.

"Leo, why aren't you saying anything? Why?"

Leo remained calm. "Because I think you're pathetic."

"Pathetic?" Ayla laughed bitterly. "Aren't you pathetic too? You abandoned me to be with Sharon, but does she even care about you? In the end, how are we any different? We're both just pitiful."

Leo didn't react much to Ayla's words. "Ayla, we're not the same."

"How are we different?"

"I can make my own choices, and you can't. For example, I can make sure you never see Jerold again, but you can't do anything to me."

Ayla's smile froze, and a wave of unease gripped her heart. "What are you going to do?"

Leo waved his hand, and two bodyguards stepped forward, grabbing Ayla by the arms.

"Someone who would harm their own child to achieve their goals doesn't deserve to be a mother. I'll be taking Jerold with me, and you'll never see him again."

"What?"

Ayla's eyes widened. "Leo, you can't do this to me! I won't let you take Jerold! You can't!"

Leo didn't look at her, his expression indifferent. "Too noisy."

One of the bodyguards covered Ayla's mouth and dragged her away.

She struggled desperately, making muffled sounds, but it was no use. She was quickly dragged into the elevator.

Once outside the hospital, the bodyguards threw her to the ground.

Ayla hit the ground hard, her head spinning, but she ignored the pain and got up to run back inside.

Jerold was her child, the one she carried for nine months. How could Leo take him away?

She expected the bodyguards to stop her, but they didn't even glance at her, getting into a nearby car and driving off.

The unease in Ayla's heart grew as she ran to the elevator.

In her haste, she didn't wait for the elevator and took the stairs instead, but she missed a step and fell.

When Jerold woke up, he found himself in an unfamiliar room, not the hospital. He quickly got out of bed.

As soon as he did, the door opened, and Leo walked in with a bowl of oatmeal.

"Dad!" Jerold's face lit up with joy, and he ran to Leo.

Leo balanced the bowl in one hand and caught Jerold with the other, smiling. "Careful."

"Dad, where are we? Why am I here? Where's Mom?"

Leo's smile remained. "This is our home. Are you hungry? Have some oatmeal first. The chef is making your favorite dishes for dinner."
