Chapter 298 Meet Alex
Doyle's face went stiff for a second, then turned sour.
He snapped, "We're talking about how you did whatever it took to get back into the Cook Group. As for me kicking you out, it was because you put a woman before the company's interests. I won't stand for that!"
Zachary nodded, his eyes cold as ice, and shot back, "Isn't it because you wanted Hugo to climb the ladder and used me as his stepping stone?"
Doyle shot up from his chair, yelling, "What nonsense are you talking about?"
His face was red with anger, but Zachary caught a flicker of guilt in his eyes. Zachary sneered, "You know exactly what I mean. I just want to know why you sacrificed my future for Hugo."
"Enough!" Doyle slammed the table, shouting, "I don't want to argue about this! Fine, I'll give you back the president's position at the Cook Group, but I'm very disappointed in you!"
Facing Doyle's furious eyes, Zachary chuckled and said slowly, "Dad, I'm just as disappointed in you."
With that, Zachary turned and walked out.
Back in his room, Zachary immediately called Brad. "What's going on with the Lawson Group? Didn't they say they weren't interested in the Cook Group? Why do they suddenly want to work with us and specifically want me to sign the contract?"
Brad sounded just as confused. "Mr. Cook, I'm not sure yet, but I'm looking into it. I'll get back to you as soon as I know something."
Less than an hour later, Brad called back. "Mr. Cook, I found out. It seems Ms. Roach has a connection with the president of the Lawson Group. She approached Ms. Lawson, and Ms. Lawson agreed to give the project to the Cook Group."
Zachary's grip on the phone tightened. "Got it."
After hanging up, Zachary was about to call Sharon but hesitated. He decided to confront her in person the next day to get to the bottom of it.
A smile crept onto Zachary's lips. Even if Sharon didn't help him, he had other ways to get back into the Cook Group. But it felt good to know she cared.
At least, Sharon was worried about him now.
Early the next morning, Sharon had just dropped Demetrius off at school when she ran into Aurora and Bennie.
Seeing Sharon, Aurora no longer had the arrogance and pride of yesterday. Instead, she looked haggard, her eyes red and swollen, clearly having had a rough night.
Sharon didn't plan to greet her. After telling Demetrius to call her with his smartwatch if anything happened, she turned to leave.
Just as she turned around, Aurora's voice called out, "Ms. Roach, please wait a moment."
Sharon turned to look at her, surprised she had called out.
"What's up?" she asked.
Aurora walked up, looking guilty. "Ms. Roach, yesterday was our fault. I thought about it and talked to Bennie. He won't speak out of turn again. I hope you can forgive us."
She had a big argument with Noe last night, and he warned her that if this wasn't handled well, he could lose his job, and their family would have no income.
After learning that Demetrius was Seb's son, Aurora began to regret her actions.
Seb was not someone they could afford to mess with. If they ticked him off, losing their jobs would be the least of their problems.
Aurora, even though she was uneducated and brash, understood the gravity of the situation.
Sharon was taken aback by Aurora's apology.
"Ms. Beckett, if you're really sorry, Bennie should apologize to Demetrius, not me," Sharon said, her voice firm and calm.
Aurora quickly nodded, "Of course. I was thinking maybe you and Mr. Smith could join us for a meal, so Bennie can apologize to Demetrius in front of you and learn his lesson."
Sharon replied, "No need for a meal. As long as Bennie apologizes to Demetrius, that's enough."
Aurora's voice wavered as she asked, "Ms. Roach, are you still unwilling to forgive me?"
Seeing Aurora's helpless look, Sharon guessed she was worried Seb would go after Noe at work.
Sharon sighed and said, "Ms. Beckett, I don't have much contact with Mr. Smith. If you really want to invite someone to a meal, invite Mr. Smith alone. As long as Bennie apologizes, I won't badmouth your husband to Mr. Smith."
Hearing that, Aurora sighed in relief and was about to say something when Sharon turned and got into her car.
Watching Sharon's car drive away, Aurora frowned and hesitated before calling Noe. "Honey, Sharon doesn't want to have a meal with us. She said as long as Bennie apologizes to her son, that's enough."
Meanwhile, at the entrance of a suburban villa in Stellaria.
Seb stopped his car and walked to the door to ring the bell.
Soon, footsteps could be heard from behind the door.
The door opened to reveal a scruffy face, and Seb frowned. "Alex?"
The unkempt Alex had a beard and hair that hadn't been groomed in who knows how long. His clothes hung loosely on his body, making him look like a homeless person.
Seeing Seb, Alex's eyes flashed with hatred and anger. "Seb, what are you doing here?"
Seb's eyes showed displeasure. After years of not seeing each other, it seemed Alex had forgotten how to respect his elders and had become increasingly rude.
But remembering his purpose, Seb suppressed his dissatisfaction, uttering, "I'm here to ask you about Sharon and me."
"Sharon?" Alex's beard twitched as he coldly replied, "You mean Sharon Wright?"
Seb nodded. "Yes, she used to be Sharon Wright. She was your ex-wife. I've had memory issues and can't recall our past, so..."
Before he could finish, Alex interrupted him sharply, "Used to be? What do you mean? She's not dead?"
Alex's excitement surprised Seb. "Yes, she's very much alive. Why?"
Not only was Sharon alive, but she had secretly given birth to his child. If he hadn't discovered it by chance, he would never know it.
Alex suddenly grabbed his arm, his eyes filled with shock and disbelief. "Where is she now? She's really not dead?"
"Yes." Seb frowned at him and said coldly, "I'm here to ask you about my past with her, not to answer your questions."
"Oh my god! She's not dead! She's alive!" Alex exclaimed, releasing him. Almost dancing with excitement, he ran upstairs without even acknowledging Seb.
Seb's face darkened, wondering if Alex had lost his mind.
He then took out his phone and contacted Rufus, speaking coldly, "Notify Alex's parents and tell them I'm at Alex's villa right now."
