Chapter 433 Begging Him Humbly to Save Herself
Seb's eyes went cold. "Did he meet with Demetrius?"
Paul replied, "Daniel went there under the pretense of donating a building to the kindergarten. We still don't know if he met Mr. Roach."
Seb said, "No need to dig deeper. Just keep tabs on him. He'll probably reach out to someone abroad soon."
After hanging up, Seb thought for a bit and decided to stay put for now.
Both Daniel and Jesse were lurking in the shadows, and Falcon had already been exposed, so he couldn't give any more info about Jesse. Instead of constantly worrying about their next move, it was better to wait and see what they were planning.
Seb was pretty sure Daniel went to the kindergarten to get something like Demetrius's hair. Since Demetrius and Sharon were mother and son, if he couldn't get Sharon's hair, Demetrius's would do.
That evening, Sharon and Seb went to pick up Demetrius from the kindergarten.
After dinner out, Seb had the driver take Demetrius home first while he and Sharon headed to the hospital to see Robert. Just as they got to the hospital entrance, they bumped into Leo and Karen.
Karen's face looked a bit off when she saw Sharon. She said, "Sharon, I'm here to apologize to your dad."
Sharon's face was blank. "Got it."
She turned and walked towards the inpatient department without looking back.
Once Sharon and Seb were out of earshot, Karen muttered, "She's only so high and mighty because she's with Seb. I don't believe..."
Leo cut her off, "Mom, haven't you said enough?"
Karen was taken aback by his sharp tone and met his cold gaze, which sent a chill down her spine. Having an unsettling feeling, she asked, "Leo, after all these years, you don't still have feelings for her, do you?"
Leo frowned. "Are you going to apologize or not?"
Ignoring her, Leo quickly walked in the direction Sharon and Seb had gone.
Karen hurried to catch up. "You have Ayla and Jerold now. Whether you still have feelings for Sharon or not, you shouldn't contact her anymore. She's just bad luck!"
Leo stopped, looking down at Karen, his presence almost freezing. "Mom, my business is none of your concern. Just take care of yourself."
Karen's face twisted. "I'm just concerned about you."
Leo shot back, "I don't need you to worry."
Karen wanted to say more, but the stern look on Leo's face made her hold her tongue. When they reached the ward, the caregiver was feeding Robert oatmeal, and Seb and Sharon were sitting by the bed.
Leo knocked and walked in with Karen.
"Mr. Wright, even though your fall was an accident, my mom is partly to blame. We're here to apologize and hope you can forgive her for the sake of your past relationship. I won't let her bother you again." Leo spoke earnestly, but Robert barely reacted.
"I accept the apology, but I don't want to see you again. Please leave." Robert looked at them calmly, like they were strangers.
From the moment he divorced Karen, they had no relationship whatsoever. Seeing the frail, pale Robert on the bed, Karen's eyes welled up. "Robert, after all our years together, are you really this heartless?"
Robert glanced at her. "We're divorced. I owe you nothing. Don't bother me again, or I'll call the cops and get a restraining order."
Karen's body shook, her face full of disbelief. She opened her mouth but couldn't find the words.
Annoyance flickered in Robert's eyes. She had pushed for the divorce, and now she was playing the victim.
In her mind, she was never wrong; it was always someone else's fault.
Sharon stood up and gave Leo a cold look. "We've accepted the apology. You and Ms. Wendy can leave now."
She had nothing more to say to Leo and Karen.
Leo looked at her with a complicated expression and nodded. "Alright, we won't bother you anymore. As for Mr. Wright's medical and nutritional expenses, I'll transfer the money to your account."
Sharon said, "Fine."
Since Karen caused Robert's injury, she accepted the money without guilt.
Leo turned to Karen and said sternly, "Mom, let's go."
Without waiting for her response, he dragged her out. Once outside the inpatient department, Karen choked up. "Why did you pull me away? I wanted to stay with him a bit longer."
Leo sneered. "Do you think Mr. Wright wants to see you?"
When Karen decided to divorce Robert, Leo had tried to talk her out of it, but she was determined to remarry. Less than a year after remarrying, her new husband cheated on her and rarely came home.
Now, Karen remembered Robert's kindness and wanted to go back to him. But Robert didn't give her a chance to regret.
Karen retorted, "I divorced him because after Sharon's accident, he never treated me well. I wanted to get back at him, but later I realized I still..."
Leo interrupted, "Enough. Even if you divorce now, Mr. Wright won't remarry you. Give up on that idea!"
After they left, the ward fell silent.
Sharon looked at Robert. "Dad, we don't have anything else to do, so we'll head back. If you need anything or feel unwell, tell the caregiver or call me."
Robert nodded. "Alright. It's cold lately, so you don't need to visit often. I'll take care of myself."
Sharon replied, "OK."
Back at the villa, Sharon changed into loungewear and played with Demetrius in the living room while Seb went to the study to work.
Around nine o'clock, Seb got a call from Paul.
Paul said, "Mr. Smith, Daniel has indeed contacted someone abroad."
Seb replied, "Got it. Keep watching him."
Paul was a bit surprised. "Mr. Smith, shouldn't we do something?"
Seb said, "Just keep a close eye on him. Inform me immediately if there's any movement."
Paul replied, "Understood, Mr. Smith."
After hanging up, Seb put down his phone and calmly resumed reading his documents. It seemed they would soon know Jesse's intentions.
In the following days, Daniel remained inactive.
However, the Edwards Group was bustling. Victor dealt with several shareholders, and the already struggling Edwards Group became even more unsettled.
To stabilize the Edwards Group, Victor had no choice but to seek Seb's help, hoping Seb would give him some projects to get through the crisis.
Seb looked at him coldly. "You haven't given me any useful information. Why should I give you projects? I'm not running a charity."
Victor's face turned awkward, and he looked at Seb with pleading eyes. "For the sake of our past friendship, help me once. I promise I won't bother you again."
He lowered his gaze, his hand unconsciously clenching at his side. If it weren't for Seb's ruthless takedown of the Edwards Group back then, they wouldn't be in this mess.
But now, not only could he not retaliate, he had to swallow his pride and beg for help in Seb's office.
Victor's heart was filled with resentment and hatred, just like Grace's. They both despised Seb. If it weren't for Seb, he wouldn't be tormenting Grace, and the Edwards Group wouldn't be in such a dire state.
But he knew he couldn't fight Seb and had to ask for his help.
Seb's indifferent gaze fell on Victor, devoid of any emotion. From the moment Victor chose to help Grace scheme against Sharon, they were no longer friends.
Seb said coldly, "When you were helping Grace with those schemes, it seems you forgot we were friends."
Victor's body trembled violently, and his face suddenly turned pale. "Seb, I've spent the past five years in regret... I was blinded by Grace back then. By the time I knew the truth, it was too late to regret."
Seb retorted, "You're not regretful; you just realized you couldn't handle the consequences."
Victor's face turned even paler. He looked up at Seb. "Regardless, I've faced retribution these past five years... Seb, I don't expect us to go back to the way we were. I just ask you to spare the Edwards Group, give me a way out."
Seb replied, "I won't do anything more to the Edwards Group, but I won't help it either."
Hearing this, Victor understood that Seb wouldn't help him. He knew Seb's character well enough to know that continuing to beg would be useless.
Victor said, "Alright, I understand. Today, I came here to humiliate myself."
With that, he turned and left.
Seb glanced at his cold, departing figure, then calmly looked away. He wouldn't help the Edwards Group, but if it were on the brink of bankruptcy, he would secretly help it once.
After all, the Edwards Group needed to remain in this half-dead state to keep Victor focused on the company.
If the Edwards Group became strong, Victor would certainly seek revenge on Silvercrest Group and him. If it went bankrupt, Victor, having lost everything, would also seek revenge out of desperation.
Seb didn't want to see either outcome. So, the Edwards Group needed to remain in a state where it couldn't return to its former glory but also wouldn't go bankrupt, which was the outcome Seb most wanted to see.
Leaving Silvercrest Group in a rage, Victor didn't even go to the company but went straight home.
In the basement of the Edwards Villa.
The light was dim, and Grace was curled up in a corner, covered in bruises, trembling all over.
Suddenly, the basement door opened. Grace's body shuddered, and she looked up, her eyes filled with fear.
Victor walked down against the light, his cold face half-hidden, looking sinister and terrifying.
Grace shrank back in terror. "Don't come near... please don't come near... let me go."
Her pitiful pleas seemed to amuse Victor whose tightly pressed lips slowly curved into a cold, chilling smile. He walked slowly to stand in front of Grace, looking down at her, savoring her fear and terror.
For years, he had been bowing and scraping to others. It seemed only in front of Grace could he stand tall and feel like a person. But he hadn't forgotten that all of this was caused by Grace. If it weren't for her deceiving him, he wouldn't have ended up like this.
Victor scolded, "Grace, you deserve to die!"
Grace looked up at Victor, her expression suddenly calm. "Victor, then kill me. Every day with you is like living in hell. I'd rather die than live like this."
Victor sneered and grabbed her chin. "You live in hell? So do I. That's why I won't let you die. I'll keep torturing you so you can feel my pain!"
Seeing the madness in his eyes, Grace slapped his hand away and screamed hysterically, "Nut! You're a nut!"
Victor's lips curled into a cold smile. "Yes, I'm a nut, so you'll never escape me in this lifetime!"
The sinister madness on his face was like a dense net, trapping Grace with no chance of escape. Grace, nearly insane, cursed Victor loudly. But the curses soon turned into screams, echoing in the basement.
After an unknown amount of time, Victor finally finished venting and dropped the belt in his hand, preparing to leave. Grace lay on the ground, barely alive, her eyes filled with hatred.
Suddenly, she spotted a sliver of a key protruding from the pocket of Victor's suit pants, her eyes lighting up with a glimmer of desperate hope. She quickly got up and hugged Victor's leg. "Victor... please let me go. I promise I won't try to escape again."
Victor sneered and kicked her away. "I have a business meeting later. Don't dirty my clothes."
Grace's body hit the ground hard, but she seemed to feel no pain and continued crawling towards Victor. "Victor... don't go... please let me go."
However, Victor left the basement without looking back.
As the door closed, the basement returned to silence.
Grace lowered her gaze, tightly clutching a key in her left hand. She bit her lip hard and struggled to crawl up the wall. She had to leave here, leave Victor! And Kirk, she wouldn't let him go either!
He was just a dog she raised, and he dared to bite her back. He deserved to die.
Leaving the basement, Victor went straight out for his business meeting.
A servant went to the basement to bring Grace food and saw her lying on the ground, looking weaker than before, with no sympathy in her eyes.
When Victor used to beat Grace, Grace would take it out on them in private. If it weren't for the salary, they would have left long ago.
"Eat something." The servant placed the food on the ground and turned to leave.
"Wait." Grace suddenly spoke, her voice hoarse and unpleasant. "I need your help with something."
The servant turned back impatiently. "Mrs. Edwards, I can't help you. If Mr. Edwards finds out, he won't let me off."
Grace said, "Don't worry, he won't know. If you help me, you can take any jewelry from my dressing table."
Hearing this, the servant was tempted but still didn't agree. "Are you serious?"
Grace replied, "Of course. If I'm lying, may I die a horrible death."
Seeing her swear so viciously, the servant finally believed her. "What do you need?"
Grace said, "Come closer. I don't have the strength to speak loudly."
The servant pursed her lips but, for the money, walked over and squatted in front of her. "Can you speak now?"
Grace said, "Come a little closer."
The servant's eyes flashed with impatience, and she leaned closer to Grace. "Hurry up. I still have to..."
Before she could finish, her eyes widened in disbelief as she looked at the bowl in Grace's hand and fell straight down.
