Chapter 182 Sharon Is Nothing

Sharon checked the time; it was only seven, and the seminar didn't start until nine.

"Did you come too early?" she asked, still half-asleep.

Ashley, sounding excited, said, "I couldn't sleep, so I got up. I brought you breakfast. Take your time; I'll hang around here."

Sharon, feeling a bit helpless, gave Ashley her apartment number and asked her to come up and wait.

By the time Sharon was ready, it was just past eight. They got to the seminar venue before eight-thirty.

As they reached the entrance, a black Maybach and a Rolls-Royce pulled up beside them.

Grace and Seb stepped out of the Maybach, while Victor got out of the Rolls-Royce.

The seminar staff warmly greeted them. "Mr. Smith, Mr. Edwards, Miss Hall, welcome. I'll take you through the VIP entrance."

Grace wore a white dress, her long hair reaching her waist, with light makeup. She clung to Seb, looking delicate.

Seb's indifferent gaze paused on Sharon for a moment before he looked away, as if he hadn't seen her.

Sharon lowered her eyes, ignoring the pang of disappointment.

Seb treating her like a stranger was better than them being entangled.

They quickly followed the staff through the VIP entrance, making Ashley envious. But remembering that Sharon and Seb broke up because of Grace, she suppressed her envy.

"Sharon, let's go in too."

In a private room, Victor looked at Seb with a teasing expression. "Seb, if I’m not mistaken, I just saw Sharon. Why didn't you say hello?"

Seb's expression was cold, and he didn't respond.

Grace's face changed slightly. Although Seb hadn't spoken to Sharon, Grace knew he had been quietly watching her.

"Victor, stop teasing Seb. He and Ms. Wright are the real couple. I'll find a chance to explain to Ms. Wright. In three months, I'll return Seb to her."

Victor's eyes flickered, and his face darkened. "Grace, there will be a way to cure your illness. Don't say such things again."

Grace's lips curled into a sad smile, and she didn't speak further.

Seeing her like this, Victor felt uncomfortable and walked to the window to look down.

The seminar hall had rows of seats like a conference room, with private rooms on both sides for high-profile figures. Each private room had large one-way glass, allowing those inside to see out while those outside saw only darkness.

Seeing Sharon and Ashley sitting in the middle towards the back, Victor sneered. 'Without Seb, Sharon is nothing.'

Sharon didn't know Victor's thoughts, and even if she did, she wouldn't care. She was here to listen to the seminar and see if she could determine her future direction.

Soon, the seminar began.

Under the spotlight, Rex Armstrong, a renowned figure in pharmaceutical research, stood up and cleared his throat, beginning his opening speech.

"Morning, everyone. In the journey of drug development, we always strive for breakthroughs and innovation. Today, I am very honored to be here to share with you an important advancement in cancer drug research." Rex's voice was loud and firm, each word filled with his passion and respect for science.

"In the past year, our team has worked tirelessly, delving into cancer mechanisms and exploring new treatments. Now, I can proudly say we've found a 'long-acting drug'," Rex said, full of pride.

"This drug zeroes in on cancer cells and has long-lasting effects, improving both survival rates and quality of life for patients." The audience erupted in applause and cheers.

After Rex, other researchers took turns sharing their findings.

Donna was the fifth speaker. She wore a simple white lab coat, her hair neatly tied back, looking professional and capable.

She presented detailed experimental data charts. "These results from our in vitro and in vivo experiments show the 'long-acting drug' significantly inhibits cancer cell growth and spread."

Donna then showed photos and videos of experimental animals. "These animals showed significant tumor shrinkage with no obvious side effects, proving the drug's safety and efficacy. However, it will take time to go from R&D to market."

Her speech piqued the audience's interest, and they eagerly asked questions about the drug. Donna patiently answered each one. The discussion grew more heated, and even when the seminar ended, many were reluctant to leave.

This seminar wasn't just about drug research; it also invited social elites from Metropolis. Drug development requires significant funding, and potential sponsors could greatly ease financial pressures.

After the seminar, Donna walked straight to Sharon and smiled. "Sharon, how did I do? I didn't seem too nervous, did I?"

Sharon shook her head, serious. "No, you did great."

There was a fleeting regret in her eyes. If she hadn't given up her postgraduate research and returned to Metropolis, she might have been one of them now. But soon, Sharon let it go. It wasn't too late to start over.

Donna smiled. Just as she was about to speak, a gentle female voice called from behind.

"Donna, come over here. I'd like to introduce you to some folks."

They all looked towards the speaker and saw Seb and the others standing next to Donna's mentor. Sharon's expression remained calm.

But Ashley, standing beside her, couldn't help but whisper, "Sharon, do you think Mr. Smith did it on purpose? Knowing you were coming, he brought Grace to annoy you!"

Seeing Ashley's indignant expression, Sharon couldn't help but smile.

"You're overthinking it. I'm not that important. One purpose of this seminar is to seek research funding. Mr. Smith was probably invited."
