Chapter 360 Sharon Gets Injured
After chatting, Sharon flagged down a cab and took off, leaving Seb and Zachary standing there.
Zachary grinned. "Mr. Smith, I'm out. Catch you later."
Seb's eyes went icy. "Mr. Cook, it seems like the Cook Group isn't keeping you busy enough if you have all this free time."
Zachary chuckled, "If you think you can, go ahead and bankrupt us. But if you do, Sharon will just pity me more and hate you even more."
Seb's face darkened, and Zachary's grin widened as he strolled to his car.
Meanwhile, in a low-key restaurant up north, Grace glared at Kirk across the table. "Didn't you say you'd take care of Sharon for me? Why is she still fine?"
Kirk stayed calm, sipping his tea. "Grace, don't rush. I need time."
Grace clenched her teeth. "Kirk, remember, when your dad was dying in the hospital, if I hadn't lent you the money, he wouldn't have made it this far!"
A year ago, Grace was at the hospital for a check-up and ran into Kirk, who couldn't afford his dad's surgery. She'd seen him once before in Seb's office at Silvercrest Group, so she recognized him.
Back then, Grace hated Seb and figured if she helped Kirk in his darkest hour, he'd owe her big time. She was right. After she covered the $100,000 for his dad's medical bills, Kirk almost kneeled to thank her, but she stopped him.
Since then, they'd been in touch privately, and Grace had visited Kirk's dad a few times. Since he knew Grace's tough spot in the Edwards family, Kirk offered to help her. He'd occasionally slip her info about potential clients for Silvercrest Group, which helped Victor a lot. That's one reason Victor kept her around.
Seeing Grace's twisted face, Kirk sighed, a hint of pity in his eyes. "Grace, Sharon just joined Silvercrest Group. If something goes wrong now, it'll point straight to me. Give it some time, and I'll handle it. Don't worry, I'll keep my promise."
He paused. "So I hope you keep yours too."
Grace's eyes flickered, and she looked down. "As long as you help me get rid of Sharon, I'll divorce Victor and be with you."
Kirk's lips curled into a smile. "Alright, I believe you."
"I can't stay out too long, or Victor will get suspicious. I'm heading back," Grace said.
Kirk nodded. "Alright, take care."
After Grace left, Kirk's smile slowly faded. He didn't want to be with Grace because he liked her, but because she was useful.
About ten minutes after Grace left, Kirk got up and slipped out the back door of the restaurant. On the surface, he and Grace had no connection, which was why he could feed her info about Silvercrest Group's potential clients for years without getting caught.
After a chill Sunday at home, Sharon walked into the lab on Monday morning and immediately sensed something was off. Jake and Ariana both looked grim.
Sharon turned to Ariana. "Ariana, what's going on?"
Ariana bit her lip and explained what had happened that morning. When she finished, she fumed, "Jake definitely gave the data to Miguel on Friday night, but now Miguel's denying it."
Miguel, standing nearby, sneered. "I didn't get it, and that's that. Maybe you guys are trying to set me up, blaming me for the lost data!"
Jake's face turned red with anger, and he lunged at Miguel, grabbing him by the collar. "I handed it to you personally on Friday. Say again that you didn't get it!"
Miguel looked unfazed. "What? You gonna hit me? Go ahead. But think it through. If you hit me, I'll call the cops."
Sharon, worried Jake might lose it, quickly stepped in to pull him back. "Jake, calm down."
Ariana also tried to calm him down. Just as Jake was starting to cool off, Miguel taunted again. "What? Too scared to hit me? Coward!"
That pushed Jake over the edge. He lost it and swung his fist at Miguel.
Miguel smirked, ready to make Jake regret it. But just as Jake's fist was about to land, Sharon pushed Miguel aside, and the punch hit her instead. Jake had tried to pull back when he saw Sharon move, but it was too late.
A sharp pain surged through Sharon, causing her to stagger and take several steps back, knocking over the glass instruments on the lab table, which shattered on the floor. Sharon fell, her hand landing on the shards, blood gushing out.
"Sharon!" Ariana rushed to help her. Jake immediately snapped out of his rage, guilt and regret flooding his eyes.
Sharon had warned him to stay calm, but he hadn't listened and ended up hurting her. Overwhelmed with guilt, Jake muttered an apology and bolted out of the lab.
Ariana was furious, wanting to strangle Jake. She quickly helped Sharon up. "Sharon, I'll take you to the hospital to tend to your wound."
Just then, a group of people walked in, led by Kirk. The folks behind him were all in business attire.
"Mr. Smith, our lab's experiment is progressing steadily. You see..." Kirk started.
Before he could finish, Seb bypassed him and quickly walked up to Sharon, his face dark as he looked at her injured hand. "What happened?"
Sharon shook her head. "There was an accident. I'll go to the hospital to get this treated."
She was about to walk past Seb when he grabbed her wrist. "I'll take you."
In her current state, driving would be tough, so she nodded. "Thanks, Mr. Smith."
Everyone, except Kirk, looked shocked. What was going on?
Seb seemed very familiar with Sharon and clearly worried about her.
However, Seb was completely indifferent to the gazes of others. While calling the driver to bring the car to the entrance of Silvercrest Group Building, he pulled Sharon away.
