Chapter 604 He Was Too Greedy and Too Confident
Saul grabbed the clothes from Sophie and headed to the fitting room.
While changing, he glanced at the price tags. The jacket was $17,685, and the pants were $8,970.
The total cost of this outfit was almost equivalent to Saul's annual part-time earnings.
Saul took a deep breath, decided not to dwell on it, and finished changing before stepping out of the fitting room.
"Sophie, how does it look? Does it fit?"
Sophie turned around, her eyes lighting up instantly. She walked over with a smile, smoothing out the wrinkles on Saul's sleeves, and nodded with satisfaction. "It looks great. Try on the other outfits too. I picked these out for you."
"Okay."
Saul obediently tried on a dozen outfits without showing any signs of frustration.
In the end, Sophie bought all the clothes and shoes he had tried on.
As they left the store, the sales associate was all smiles, escorting them to the door.
"Ms. Lee, we look forward to your next visit."
With their hands full of shopping bags, it was inconvenient to continue browsing. Sophie looked at Saul and said, "Let's put these clothes back in the car first. By the way, did you have breakfast this morning?"
Saul nodded, "I did. Did you, Sophie?"
"No, I didn't. Let's find a place to eat something."
"Sure."
Seeing Saul's obedient demeanor, Sophie's smile deepened.
"By the way, aren't you curious about the friend I'm buying these clothes for?"
Saul shook his head, showing little curiosity.
"If you wanted to tell me, you would have. Since you haven't, asking won't make a difference."
Sophie raised an eyebrow, impressed by his sensibility.
After putting the clothes in the car, Sophie checked the time. It was almost 11 AM, so they decided to have lunch at a nearby restaurant.
While ordering, Sophie smiled and said, "Order whatever you like. Lunch is on me, as a thank you for helping me try on clothes."
Saul paused, then lowered his gaze. "Okay."
After ordering, Sophie picked up her purse. "I'm going to the restroom."
She hadn't been gone long when a man suddenly sat down across from Saul.
Saul looked up and saw Randy. His eyes flickered.
"Mr. Smith, someone is sitting here."
Randy leaned back in his chair, his expression indifferent. "Mr. Pena, Sophie is my girlfriend. You'd better stay away from her, or you might face consequences you can't handle."
"Mr. Smith, if I remember correctly, Sophie said you broke up last time we met. You have no right to tell me how close I can be to her."
Randy's hand on the table slowly clenched, his gaze turning icy.
"We just had a fight, not a breakup. She was speaking out of anger, and you took it to heart."
Saul smiled slightly. "Whether it was out of anger or serious, I'll ask Sophie myself, not rely on hearsay. Mr. Smith, Sophie should be back from the restroom soon. If you stay here, she might get upset."
Randy sneered. "Don't think acting obedient will make Sophie like you. She's only interacting with you to spite me. You'd better recognize your place."
"Thank you for the advice, Mr. Smith."
Randy left shortly before Sophie returned.
Noticing Saul's mood was off, she was about to ask when her phone buzzed.
Sophie took out her phone and saw a message from a friend.
[Sophie, check the trending news online. Delbert exposed Randy for being ungrateful to his savior.]
Seeing the message, Sophie pursed her lips, hesitated, then searched for the news.
A reporter had posted about Randy, saying Electra was injured saving him, but Randy hadn't visited her once since she was hospitalized.
The comments were all criticizing Randy for being a heartless capitalist.
Saul noticed Sophie's pale face and asked, "Sophie, is something wrong? You look really pale."
Saul's words brought Sophie back to reality.
She placed her phone face down on the table and forced a smile at Saul. "It's nothing, just some news."
Saul didn't ask further, but his gaze lingered on Sophie's phone.
Soon, their food arrived.
After lunch, they went to buy gifts for Sharon and the baby.
Unlike before, Sophie seemed distracted, as if something was on her mind.
Saul wanted to ask her several times what was wrong but ultimately decided against it.
If Sophie didn't want to tell him, asking wouldn't help.
After buying the gifts, Sophie drove Saul back to school.
They were silent during the drive.
When the car stopped at Serenity University's entrance, Sophie finally looked at Saul. "Saul, thank you for today. You worked hard."
"Sophie, it's no problem. But I noticed you seemed off and didn't eat much. If you have any worries, you can always talk to me."
Sophie was taken aback, then nodded. "Okay, I will. Goodbye."
"Take care on your way back."
After Saul got out, Sophie drove away.
Meanwhile, in the Smith Group president's office.
The secretary hurriedly knocked and entered. "Mr. Smith, Mr. Loomis publicly accused you online of being ungrateful. Since Ms. Ross was injured, you haven't visited her once. The online backlash is affecting the company's image."
Randy's expression remained cold. "I know. I'll handle it. You can leave."
After the secretary left, Randy called Delbert.
Delbert's voice soon came through the phone. "Aren't you busy? How do you have time to call me?"
Detecting the sarcasm, Randy frowned and spoke coldly. "Do you think posting online will make me go to the hospital?"
Delbert sneered. "If you're not going to compromise, why call me?"
"I'm telling you to stop these pointless actions. I won't see Electra again."
"Randy, have you lost your conscience? If it weren't for you, Electra wouldn't be injured or hospitalized."
Randy lowered his gaze, speaking seriously. "You like Electra, that's your business. You can pursue her, but don't expect me to follow your wishes. If it weren't for her, Sophie and I wouldn't have broken up."
"Don't blame everything on Electra. Your breakup with Sophie is mostly your fault. You wanted to stay friends with Electra while being with Sophie, deceiving Sophie, which led to your breakup!"
Angrily finishing his words, Delbert hung up.
Randy put down his phone, smiling bitterly.
Delbert was right. He was too greedy and overconfident, thinking he could balance his relationships with Electra and Sophie, leading to an irreparable outcome.
His phone rang again.
Seeing it was Seb, he took a deep breath and answered.
"Uncle Seb."
"What's this trending news about?"
After a moment of silence, Randy spoke quietly. "I'll handle it, Uncle Seb. Don't worry."
"I asked what happened. Aren't you and Delbert good friends? Why is this blowing up over a small issue?"
"Uncle Seb, it's my fault. I promise to resolve it today."
"Alright."
Seb hung up without further comment.
Randy put down his phone and called the PR manager.
"Suppress the trending news, no matter the cost."
The PR manager looked troubled, cautiously speaking. "Mr. Smith, we've been trying to suppress it since it started, but every time we negotiate, the Loomis Group raises the price, refusing to let it go. That's why it's still unresolved."
Seeing Randy's silence, he continued. "I remember you and Mr. Loomis are close. Maybe you could discuss it with him and see what it would take for them to drop it?"
Randy frowned, then spoke after a while. "If the Loomis Group raises the price, we'll match it until they give up."
"Mr. Smith, isn't that too costly?"
It was just a trending topic. Ignoring it would affect the Smith Group's reputation, but it wasn't critical.
"Do as I say."
Seeing Randy's firm stance, the PR manager nodded. "Understood."
The news spread quickly, and Electra soon learned about it.
She called Delbert, trying to persuade him to drop the topic.
"Delbert, I know you want Randy to visit me, but this isn't necessary. If he doesn't want to come, forcing him will only make him hate me more."
"You were injured because of Randy. Even as a stranger, he should visit you. His behavior is outrageous. Don't worry, I'll make him come to the hospital and apologize!"
Electra's voice was filled with helplessness. "Delbert…"
"I have work to do. Talk later."
Delbert hung up.
Electra smiled slowly.
Delbert was a useful pawn. A few displays of sadness, and he'd go to great lengths to help her.
If she didn't only like Randy, being with Delbert wouldn't be bad.
Now, she just had to wait patiently for Randy to visit her.
Thinking this, Electra's mood brightened, her smile deepening.
After leaving Serenity University, Sophie drove straight to Sharon's place.
Seeing Sophie carrying numerous bags into the house, Sharon was surprised. "What's all this? Why so much?"
Sophie placed the bags by the sofa and said, "Gifts for you and the baby. I'm exhausted. Get me some water."
Dana quickly poured a glass of water and handed it to Sophie. She drank most of it, then looked at Sharon. "I didn't know you were pregnant before. Now that I do, I had to get gifts for you and the baby."
Sharon: "Isn't it a bit early for this?"
Sophie shrugged. "Maybe, but I wanted to make sure you and the baby have everything you need. Plus, it's never too early to start preparing, right?"
Sharon smiled, touched by Sophie's thoughtfulness. "Thank you, Sophie. You're too kind."
Sophie waved it off. "No big deal. Just take care of yourself and that little one, okay?"
Sharon nodded. "I will. And thank you again. It means a lot."
Sophie smiled, feeling a bit better. "Anytime, Sharon. Anytime."
