Chapter 384 She Didn't Choose Me

Thinking that he always treated Dwayne like a brother, but now Dwayne dated with Sophie, Randy felt like punching Dwayne right in the face.

"Sophie is my girlfriend. Her business is my business."

Randy's fists clenched on their own, his whole body tense.

He took a deep breath, trying to calm the anger boiling inside him, and looked at Sophie. "What was that call about earlier?"

Before Sophie could answer, Dwayne laughed and said, "You came all the way here because of that call? We were playing truth or dare at the bar, and Sophie lost. She picked dare and had to call you and confess. I didn't think you'd actually show up for a phone call."

Randy's face went pale in an instant. He looked at Sophie and asked slowly, "Is that true?"

Sophie bit her lower lip, avoiding his eyes. "Yes."

"Fine, I must be an idiot for coming here!"

Randy didn't look at Sophie again, storming past her and Dwayne, his back radiating anger.

As his footsteps faded, Sophie felt a hollow emptiness in her heart. To her, that call tonight was more of a truth than a dare.

In the five years of being tangled up with Randy, Sophie had fallen for him. She was just used to having Randy around, mistaking it for friendship.

But now, Sophie probably wouldn't get the chance to tell Randy any of this.

She let go of Dwayne's hand. "Thanks for walking me back. It's late, so I won't ask you in. Be safe getting home."

As Sophie left, a mocking smile slowly spread across Dwayne's lips. Back in his car, he dialed a number.

"I'm heading over now. Make sure to bring those two girls who drank with us the other day."

Hanging up, Dwayne started the car and drove off.

The next morning, Sharon got up, went through her morning routine, and went downstairs.

"Morning," Seb greeted her first.

Sharon's expression was cold. "Morning."

Sitting across from Seb, Sharon picked up a slice of bread and spread butter on it.

"Sharon, you've been back in Metropolis for a while now. Have you thought about visiting Mr. Wright?"

Sharon's hand froze, her fingers gripping the knife turning slightly pale.

She looked up at Seb, her face blank. "No, why? Have you seen him recently?"

"Yeah, ever since you fell into the sea, Mr. Wright has been really down. He's not doing well."

"Doesn't he have Karen and Leo to take care of him?"

Sharon thought about the things Robert had said to her before, and it still hurt. After all, Robert wasn't just anyone; he was her father.

Sharon once thought that even if no one else understood her, at least Robert would. But later, she realized how wrong she was.

Robert was no longer the father who gave her all his love; his love was now divided between Karen and Leo.

"Karen divorced Mr. Wright two years ago and married another wealthy businessman. Leo also got married and has a three-year-old son."

The dining room fell silent. After a few seconds, Sharon spoke, "Where is he now?"

"Do you want to see Mr. Wright?"

Seb stared at Sharon, trying to catch any hint of emotion on her face.

Sharon looked away, her tone icy. "No, if he's in the hospital, I can cover his medical bills and get him a caregiver. If he's living alone, I can hire a housekeeper for him."

"Mr. Wright's biggest wish is probably to see you again," Seb added.

Sharon put down the bread and knife, pushed back her chair, and stood up. "I'll wait for you outside."

As Sharon turned to leave, her eyes reddened.

By the time Seb walked out of the villa, Sharon had calmed down, her face back to normal.

Seeing him, Sharon opened the car door and got in.

On the way to the company, Seb tried several times to talk to Sharon, but seeing her indifferent profile, he held back.

It wasn't until the car stopped in the basement and Sharon was about to get out that Seb spoke, "Sharon, the doctor said Mr. Wright might only have one or two years left to live."

Sharon paused but didn't turn back. "That has nothing to do with me."

Watching her leave without looking back, Seb's eyes darkened.

It might take some time for Sharon to figure it out.

All day, whenever Sharon had a moment to herself, she thought of what Seb had said when she got out of the car that morning.

Even Ariana noticed her distraction and asked if something had happened.

Sharon shook her head. "Nothing, let's wrap up the experiment."

"Okay."

On the way home from work, Seb noticed Sharon's low spirits and glanced at her during a red light.

"Are you very tired today?" Seb asked.

"Not really." Sharon didn't look at him, instead playing with her fingers absentmindedly.

Seb's eyes darkened. Just as he was about to speak, his phone rang.

Seeing it was a call from Randy, Seb was surprised.

"Uncle Seb, I've thought about what you said before. I'm waiting for you at your villa."

"Okay."

Hanging up, Seb started the car without saying more as the light turned green.

Seb and Sharon arrived at the villa over forty minutes later.

As soon as they stepped into the living room, they saw Randy sitting on the sofa.

Randy had been watching the door and stood up immediately when he heard them.

"Ms. Roach, hello. I'm here to see Uncle Seb."

Sharon forced a smile. "Alright, I'll go upstairs. You two talk."

Seb walked up to Randy and said in a low voice, "Let's go to the study."

Five minutes later, in the study.

"Are you sure you want to do this?"

Randy nodded, his eyes full of determination. "Yes, I've thought it through. Even if I sell all my shares now, it will only temporarily solve the Lee Group's crisis. Besides, I've analyzed it; the Lee Group has been losing money every year for the past few years. Merging and restructuring is the best outcome."

Seb looked at him. "If Sophie marries someone else because of this, are you okay with that?"

"Love isn't everything in life, and Sophie didn't choose me."

As Randy uttered these words, his mouth curved into a bitter smile.

"So, you're saying that if Sophie chose you, you would sell your shares to save the Lee Group?"
