Chapter 564 I Don't Want Her to Leave
Robert's eyes flickered with guilt. He didn't say another word and lowered his head to sip his chicken soup.
Seeing him finish, Sharon stood up and said, "Dad, I've got some errands to run this afternoon, so I can't stay. If you need anything, just give me a call."
Robert nodded, "Alright, you go on."
Leaving the hospital, Sharon got into her car but didn't start it right away. Instead, she sorted through the list of things Demetrius wanted, then headed straight to the mall.
Besides the things Demetrius wanted, Sharon also bought birthday gifts for him for every year up to his twentieth birthday.
After buying all the bags and packages, she had them wrapped up and arranged for them to be delivered to the villa after 9 PM, when Demetrius would likely be asleep.
By the time she finished everything and was ready to head back to the villa, it was already past six in the evening.
Winter nights fall quickly, and by the time her car stopped at the villa's entrance, it was completely dark outside.
Sharon parked the car, pushed open the door, and walked inside.
As soon as she stepped into the living room, Demetrius ran into her arms. "Mom, why did it take you so long to visit Grandpa? I've been waiting forever."
Sharon reached out and patted his head, smiling. "Tomorrow, when I go to see Grandpa, I'll take you with me, okay?"
"Okay."
After comforting Demetrius, Sharon glanced around the living room but didn't see Seb. She turned to Dana and asked, "Where's Seb?"
"Mr. Smith is still in the study working. He said to wait for you to come back before having dinner."
Sharon nodded, "Alright, I'll go get him."
She walked to the study door and was about to knock when she heard Seb's cold voice from inside. "For the companies willing to cooperate, find someone to connect with them and sign the contracts. For those unwilling to cooperate, figure out a way to acquire them. Do as I said. I want results within three days!"
Sharon pursed her lips and knocked on the door.
"Come in."
She pushed the door open and saw Seb sitting behind his desk with a cold expression. She quickly walked up to him. "Seb, is something wrong at the company?"
When Seb saw that it was her, his cold demeanor instantly melted away. He looked up at her and said, "No, it's nothing. Why did you come back so late today?"
"I went to buy gifts for Demetrius. Before coming back, I had them wrapped up and arranged for delivery after 9 PM tonight."
Seb's eyes darkened slightly. "Alright, have them put in the room on the third floor."
"Okay."
"How's your work going? If you're almost done, let's go have dinner."
"Sure." Seb stood up and walked towards her, and they left the study together.
After dinner, Demetrius played for a while before Sharon took him upstairs for a bath.
Knowing Sharon wanted to help him bathe, Demetrius was a bit reluctant. "Mom, boys and girls are different, and I can bathe myself."
Seeing his awkward expression, Sharon couldn't help but laugh.
"Alright, you can bathe yourself. I'll get your pajamas ready and stay with you tonight, okay?"
A flash of joy crossed Demetrius's eyes, but he quickly tried to hide it and said, "Okay... But, will Dad be okay with it?"
"He won't mind."
Of course, Seb minded.
Knowing Sharon was going to stay with Demetrius, he wore a face full of displeasure.
"We barely get any time together, and now you want to stay with Demetrius tonight?"
Sharon sighed, feeling a bit helpless. "How about we all sleep together?"
"Fine," Seb grumbled. He didn't have much choice. He couldn't really stop Sharon from staying with Demetrius.
After putting Demetrius to bed, around 9 PM, the department store delivered all the things Sharon had bought in the afternoon.
Seeing the two large trucks full of items, Seb was taken aback. "How much did you buy?"
"I bought birthday and holiday gifts for him from now until he's twenty. I also categorized and dated them, so you can just pick them out and give them to him when the time comes."
Seb was silent.
After the servants moved everything into the room, Sharon checked the items and then turned to find Seb leaning against the door, unusually quiet. She finally sensed something was wrong.
"Seb, what's the matter?"
Seb pursed his lips and looked at Sharon. "You prepared so many gifts for Demetrius, but what about me? Aren't you going to leave me anything to remember you by before you go?"
Sharon stood up and walked over to him. "Demetrius is the biggest reminder I could leave you. Besides, I'm not leaving forever. There will be a day when our family is together again."
Seb pulled her into his arms, their bodies pressed tightly together. Sharon could feel him trembling slightly.
She hugged him back and whispered, "Seb, as long as our hearts are together, that's all that matters."
It took a while for Seb to calm down.
He let go of Sharon and looked down at her. "When are you planning to tell Demetrius that you're leaving?"
"I haven't decided yet."
Leaving suddenly would be cruel to Demetrius, who was just over five years old, and it would be hard for her too.
She didn't know how long they would be apart this time. Maybe she would never come back, or maybe when she did, Demetrius wouldn't need her anymore.
The time they missed would be something she could never make up for.
Seb's expression darkened, and he frowned. "You have to tell him tomorrow. Otherwise, there won't be time. If you can't bring yourself to do it, I'll tell him."
Sharon bit her lip. "No, I'll tell him tomorrow."
"Alright."
After they both took a bath, Seb went to Demetrius's room and carried him to their bedroom.
Demetrius's bed was too small. Adding Sharon made it crowded, and with Seb, someone would definitely fall off during the night.
Placing Demetrius between them, Seb lay down and couldn't help but wish time could stop at that moment. Then their family of three would never be apart.
Seeing Seb settled, Sharon turned off the light.
The room fell into darkness, and Seb reached out to hold Sharon and Demetrius close, planting a gentle kiss on Sharon's forehead.
"Sleep."
The next morning, Seb woke up at dawn.
Noticing Sharon wasn't there, he frowned and got out of bed.
After searching around, he found Sharon walking in the garden. He walked over and took off his jacket to drape it over her shoulders. "It's chilly in the morning. Why are you out here with so little on?"
Feeling her cold hands, Seb picked her up and carried her back to the villa.
"I'm fine. I just couldn't sleep, so I came out for a walk. I'm not cold."
"Your hands are freezing. If I had woken up any later, you'd be an ice block."
Sharon couldn't help but laugh. "It's not that bad. I'm wearing two layers. It's just my hands that are cold."
As they spoke, Seb stepped into the living room.
"Alright, put me down. I'll go upstairs and change."
Seb refused, carrying her to the sofa. "Wait here. I'll get you some clothes."
"I'll just go upstairs and change. Demetrius should be awake by now."
Seb paused, turned back to look at her, and said, "Alright."
Seeing him turn and walk towards her, ready to pick her up again, Sharon quickly refused, "No need, I can walk by myself."
Afraid that Seb might insist on carrying her, Sharon quickly stood up and walked upstairs from the other side of the sofa.
Watching her retreating figure, Seb couldn't help but smile.
But as he smiled, his eyes turned sorrowful.
Sharon didn't notice his change in mood and hurried back to the bedroom.
Demetrius was already awake, sitting on the bed and rubbing his eyes sleepily.
Seeing Sharon, he spoke in his sweet childlike voice, "Mom, when did you bring me here?"
At that moment, Demetrius's hair was a bit messy, and his eye-rubbing made him look incredibly cute. Sharon couldn't resist pinching his cheek.
"Last night after you fell asleep. Now that you're awake, go back to your room and change your clothes."
Demetrius nodded and was about to get off the bed when he realized his slippers weren't by the bed.
"Mom, I can't find my slippers."
Sharon, who was looking for her clothes for the day, remembered that Seb had carried Demetrius over last night and forgot to bring his slippers.
"Let me carry you back to your room."
"Okay, thanks, Mom!"
Sharon walked to the bed, picked Demetrius up, and carried him to his room.
Demetrius wrapped his arms around her neck and kissed her cheek. "Mom, you've been so nice to me these past few days."
Since he turned three, his mom hadn't slept with him.
Sharon paused and softly said, "When have I ever not been nice to you?"
"Mom is always nice to me, but it feels like you've been even nicer these past few days."
"Are you happy about that?"
"Yes, I'm very happy. I love you the most, Mom."
With that, Demetrius kissed Sharon's cheek again.
Sharon looked down at him, seeing the smile on his face, and couldn't help but smile herself.
After carrying Demetrius back to his room, Sharon returned to the bedroom.
By the time she had changed and freshened up, Demetrius was already downstairs.
Sharon went downstairs and had just reached the living room when she received a call from the housekeeper.
"Ms. Roach, the doctor checked Mr. Wright this morning and said he can be discharged. I'll handle the discharge procedures shortly."
"Thank you."
After hanging up, Sharon put away her phone and sat down next to Demetrius.
"Demetrius, Mom has something to tell you."
Demetrius, who had been reading a book, turned to look at her. "What is it, Mom?"
After a moment of hesitation, Sharon slowly began, "In a couple of days, I might have to go somewhere, and we won't be able to see each other for a long time. While I'm gone, you need to listen to Dad, okay?"
The book in Demetrius's hands fell to the floor, and tears welled up in his eyes.
"Mom, are you going to die? I don't want you to die!"
Crying, Demetrius threw himself into Sharon's arms, holding her tightly and refusing to let go.
Sharon, already feeling emotional, was caught off guard by his words and didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
She wiped Demetrius's tears and said, "Mom is just going to a faraway place. We might not see each other for a few years, but we can still call each other."
"I don't believe you. A classmate's dad in my class said he was going to a faraway place before he died. Mom, I don't want you to die..."
Seeing him crying so hard, Sharon quickly tried to comfort him. "No, Mom just said we can still call and video chat. We just can't see each other every day."
"I don't believe you! You're lying to me. Are you sick?"
"No."
Sharon spent a long time explaining to Demetrius, but he still didn't believe her. She had to call Seb over, and after Seb explained for a while, Demetrius reluctantly believed them, though he was still sniffling.
"Mom, are you leaving because you don't want me and Dad anymore?"
Sharon was silent.
She didn't know how to explain the complicated situation to a five-year-old, so she kept it simple.
"No, Mom is leaving for work. Once the work is done, I'll come back. We can still call each other during that time."
"Mom, is it because we don't have money? I can make money."
He had written a lot of code for Alton before, and Alton had given him a lot of money.
As long as he kept writing code for Alton, Alton would definitely give him more money.
"No, Mom's work isn't just about money. You'll understand when you grow up."
"I don't want to understand!" Demetrius suddenly stood up, angrily saying, "I don't want to be apart from you!"
With that, he turned and ran upstairs, slamming the door loudly.
Sharon felt helpless and looked at Seb. "He probably won't accept my leaving right away. After I leave, please help him understand."
As she spoke, Sharon's eyes turned red.
Seb pulled her into his arms and softly comforted her, "Don't be sad. One day, Demetrius will understand."
"Okay."
After calming down, Sharon took breakfast upstairs and knocked on Demetrius's bedroom door.
"Demetrius, it's Mom. Can you open the door for me?"
"No!"
Hearing the resistance and anger in Demetrius's voice, Sharon sighed. "Alright, I'll leave you alone for now. I'll leave your breakfast at the door. If you get hungry, come out and eat."
After placing the breakfast down, Sharon turned and left.
Demetrius needed time to accept her departure. Forcing him to accept it now would be too difficult.
Hearing the footsteps fade away, Demetrius looked at the door, feeling wronged.
If Sharon had comforted him a bit more, he would have opened the door for her.
He decided he wouldn't talk to Mom anymore!
Pulling the blanket over his head, Demetrius sulked under the covers.
But thinking about Mom leaving made him cry again.
He cried harder and harder until a phone call interrupted him.
Seeing it was Alton, he wiped his tears, sniffled, and answered, "Hello, Mr. Roach..."
Hearing Demetrius's nasal voice, Alton felt a pang of worry. "Demetrius, what's wrong? Did something happen?"
Hearing this, Demetrius started crying again. After a while, Alton finally got a chance to speak again.
"Demetrius, why are you crying so much? Did you get in trouble and your parents scolded you?"
Demetrius sniffled, "Mr. Roach, my mom is leaving me and Dad to go to a faraway place. I don't want her to leave."
As soon as he finished speaking, there was silence on the other end of the line.
