Chapter 538 Regretted That You Were Not Inside
After a moment of hesitation, Sharon spoke up, "On my way to pick up Demetrius today, Jesse's guys blocked me. He said he wanted to talk about my mom, but I told him no."
Seb's face darkened. "I heard about this. I'll get more people to watch over you and Demetrius. He won't get another shot at you."
Sharon bit her lower lip and looked up at him. "These past few days, I've been feeling uneasy, like something bad's about to happen."
Sensing her anxiety, Seb pulled her into a comforting embrace. "Don't worry, I'm here. As long as Silvercrest Group stands, no one will harm you or Demetrius."
"Alright, let's eat first and not think about these things."
"Okay, don't worry, I've got this."
Meanwhile, Jesse had just left the Thomas Villa when he got a call from Alton, asking him to come over.
Jesse arrived at the restaurant Alton mentioned and was led into a private room by a waiter.
"Mr. Roach, what can I do for you?"
Alton poured a glass of water and began, "I heard you went to see Sharon today?"
Jesse was momentarily taken aback but then smiled. "Mr. Roach, you really are well-informed."
Alton didn't respond, simply taking a sip from his glass.
The room fell silent, but Jesse sensed the unusual tension.
His expression darkened slightly, though he maintained a smile. "Mr. Roach, did you call me here just to ask about that?"
Alton set down his glass and finally looked at him. "Yes, you should know Sharon's identity. Don't let me find out you approached her again."
Jesse's face changed immediately.
Not approach Sharon?
How was that possible?
He had done so much; giving up now would mean all his efforts were in vain.
He could agree to many things, but not this.
"Mr. Roach, why can't I see Sharon?"
"I know your intentions, but you should remember she's part of the Roach family. Even though she has a chance to inherit the Stoll family, don't forget, her half-siblings are not to be trifled with. You don't have what it takes to make her the winner in this fight."
Jesse took a deep breath and looked at Alton seriously. "Mr. Roach, how do you know I don't have what it takes?"
"With one word from me, you'd be sent back to Stellaria tomorrow. Your so-called abilities and skills are all thanks to the Stoll family. Without them, you're nothing."
The blunt words hit hard, and Jesse's face turned pale.
His hand clenched tightly at his side. After a long pause, he spoke, "Mr. Roach, with my help, Sharon's return to the Stoll family would be much easier. I can protect her when she first goes back, something you can't do."
Alton's goal in coming to Metropolis was to bring Sharon back to Stellaria to compete for the Stoll family inheritance.
But given his special status, many eyes were on him. Any sign of favoritism towards Sharon could make her a target.
With Jesse's cover, many things would be easier.
Alton seemed to consider this, looking coldly at Jesse. "What do you want?"
Jesse smiled slightly. "I want to marry Sharon."
Alton scoffed. "You've got some nerve!"
If Sharon became the Stoll family heir, Jesse's status would rise significantly.
Jesse pulled out a chair and sat across from him. "Mr. Roach, if I get engaged to Ms. Roach, I can legitimately help her once she's back with the Stoll family. Don't you think?
"And I don't have big ambitions. I just want MK Group. Once Ms. Roach inherits the Stoll family, we can annul the engagement. This deal benefits you greatly."
Alton looked down, tapping his fingers on the glass, contemplating Jesse's proposal.
After a long pause, he looked up at Jesse. "You can have MK Group, but I can't trust you."
"Mr. Roach, if you don't trust me, we can sign a contract. That way, if I go back on my word, you can use the contract against me."
Alton didn't respond immediately. "Go back for now. I need to think about this."
The most important thing was he didn't know Sharon's attitude yet or how she'd react to learning she was a Stoll family heir.
He needed to find a chance to meet with Sharon and explain the situation in Stellaria.
Seeing that Alton hadn't outright rejected him, Jesse knew his offer was tempting. He smiled. "Alright, I won't disturb you further. If you need anything, feel free to contact me. We're on the same side. I don't want anyone but Ms. Roach to inherit the Stoll family either."
"Okay."
After Jesse left, Alton set down his glass and stood up to leave.
The next morning, after dropping Demetrius off at school, Sharon was about to head back when Alton stopped her.
"Ms. Roach, we've met before. I'd like to talk to you. Do you have time now?"
Recognizing him as the man who had saved Demetrius, and possibly the teacher Demetrius had mentioned, Sharon nodded. "Sure, what do you want to talk about?"
"This isn't the best place. There's a café across the street. Let's talk there."
"Alright."
They walked into the café and sat down. Alton handed her the menu. "See if there's anything you'd like."
Sharon shook her head. "I don't really drink coffee."
Alton didn't insist, handing the menu to the waiter. "An Americano for me and a hot milk for the lady."
"Sure, just a moment."
After the waiter left, Sharon looked at Alton. "Mr. Roach, what do you want to talk about?"
Alton looked at her gently. "Aren't you curious why we share the same last name?"
Sharon was taken aback but then smiled. "Lots of people have the same last name."
"Your mom was my dad's sister, my aunt. I'm your cousin."
Alton's words left Sharon stunned.
She had never heard of her mom having any siblings.
"Mr. Roach, are you joking?"
Seeing her disbelief, Alton took out a family photo and handed it to her. "This is our family photo. Your mom always regretted that you weren't in it."
