Chapter 55 Then You Can Rest Easy
Eugene was currently in the hospital hallway, staring at the payment slip with worry. He said in a deep voice, "Just these few days."
He couldn't come up with a single penny, and with Elizabeth at the police station, he had no choice but to follow Irene's instructions. Only then would he have a chance to get the money for the medical bills.
"Then I'll wait for good news from you." After hanging up the phone, a smile curled up on Irene's lips.
As long as Eugene kidnapped Sharon, she would make sure they died at the scene, ensuring her peace of mind.
In the lab, Sharon was about to continue her previous experiment when she received a message from Susan, asking her to come to the office.
Upon arriving at the office, Susan smiled and asked her to sit down. "Sharon, how did you feel about the business trip to Maple Valley with Mr. Smith?"
Sharon pursed her lips. "It was okay. Ms. Lewis, what do you need from me?"
Susan said, "Well, the headquarters highly values the project you're developing, and since it's funded by the Silvercrest Group, to avoid Mr. Smith having to run back and forth to monitor the progress, the headquarters plans to send you to work at Silvercrest Group for a while."
Sharon's eyes showed surprise, and her brows furrowed involuntarily. "How long approximately, and does Silvercrest Group have a lab?"
Susan smiled. "I'm not sure exactly how long, but probably until the project is well underway. As for the lab, you don't need to worry. Silvercrest Group bought a building next to their headquarters last year and converted it into a lab, which is now ready for use."
It would take at least a year or two years to make the project to be well underway.
After all, drug development, with its pharmacological tests and clinical trials, could take years, even for the testing phase alone.
Seeing Sharon's reluctance, Susan continued, "This counts as a business trip, so you'll get a daily allowance of two hundred dollars."
Two hundred dollars a day, which would be at least four thousand dollars a month, was a significant incentive for Sharon.
Instantly, the reluctance on her face vanished.
She asked, "When do I start working there?"
Susan couldn't help but laugh. "If possible, it's best to start tomorrow. Today, wrap up your current experiment, and tomorrow, head straight to Silvercrest Group to find Mr. Harris."
Sharon was a bit surprised; she didn't expect it to be so urgent. But the sooner she went, the sooner she would start receiving the allowance, which was a good thing.
She said, "Okay, I won't do any experiments today. I'll just organize my materials."
Susan said, "Alright, go ahead. If you have any issues over there, feel free to communicate with me."
Back in the lab, Sharon put away the experimental equipment and returned to her workstation.
The day passed quickly. After organizing her materials and personal items, she shut down her computer.
She turned to look at Betty, who was still reading literature at her workstation, and told her she would start working at Silvercrest Group the next day.
Betty was initially stunned, then her eyes widened. "Are you job-hopping?"
Her voice was loud, attracting the attention of those around, including Irene.
Sharon shook her head. "No, the company is sending me to Silvercrest Group to complete the current project and then come back."
Since some colleagues had been sent to other companies for experiments before, Betty wasn't too surprised. "I see. I heard Silvercrest Group has many handsome, wealthy single men. If you meet any, remember to introduce them to me."
Sharon didn't expect Betty to focus on that, so she smiled and nodded. "Sure, if there's anyone suitable, I'll introduce them to you."
Back home, Sharon contacted Paul.
Paul asked her to come to the CEO's office the next morning, where he would take her to record her fingerprints and get an access card.
After hanging up, Sharon couldn't help but feel a bit worried.
Alex already suspected Seb harbored hidden intentions towards her. With her new job at Silvercrest Group, any discovery by him could spell unforeseen trouble.
But given her current situation, she could only take it one step at a time and deal with his reaction when the time came.
Early the next morning, Sharon got up, freshened up, and drove to Silvercrest Group.
After parking her car downstairs, she went to the front desk and said she was looking for Paul.
The receptionist confirmed her identity and led her to the elevator. "Ms. Wright, the CEO's office is on the top floor."
Sharon nodded. "Okay, thank you."
Entering the elevator, she pressed the button for the top floor, and the elevator doors closed, ascending slowly.
This was her maiden visit to Silvercrest Group. She had heard rumors of its panoramic elevators, and now, she could confirm their existence.
As the elevator ascended, the city's scenery came into view, giving her a sense of openness.
Soon, the elevator reached the top floor.
Sharon disembarked, traversed the lengthy corridor, and ultimately reached the CEO's office.
Having visited the Smith Group during her time spent with Alex, she noted the stark contrast between its CEO's office and that of Silvercrest Group.
Silvercrest Group had several times more secretaries than the Smith Group.
It was just past eight, but all the secretaries were already busy at their workstations, with phone calls ringing constantly.
After searching for a while, Sharon saw Paul sitting at a workstation outside the CEO's office, buried in paperwork.
She walked quickly to his workstation and said, "Mr. Harris."
Paul looked up at the sound and, seeing Sharon, stood up. "Ms. Wright, you're here. I'll take you to complete the onboarding process."
Although Sharon was sent by Medica Care International Pharmaceuticals, the necessary procedures still had to be followed.
She said, "Okay, thank you, Mr. Harris."
Paul said, "You're welcome."
After completing the onboarding, he showed Sharon where the Silvercrest Group cafeteria was and then took her to the lab building.
Situated fourteen hundred feet from the main building and connected by a long hallway, the lab building was newly operational and didn't have many projects yet, affording Sharon her own office and lab.
Looking at the spacious and bright lab, she was extremely satisfied.
Back in college, she had to share a lab with her classmates, sometimes having to coordinate the use of equipment. Now, with her own lab, she wouldn't have to worry about that anymore.
Paul said, "Ms. Wright, here's your meal card. The cafeteria is open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.. If there's nothing else, I'll head back. If you have any questions, feel free to call me or come to the CEO's office."
Sharon took the card and nodded. "Got it, thank you, Mr. Harris."
Back at the CEO's office, Paul knocked and entered Seb's office.
Seb was dissecting a document, the morning sunlight streaming through the window, making him look like he had stepped out of a comic book.
If those women who admired him saw this, they would go crazy. After all, his looks and honor were enough to drive women wild.
Paul said, "Mr. Smith, Ms. Wright completed her onboarding this morning."
