Chapter 237 It's Hard to Be Friends When You've Liked Each Other
Seb's face was stone-cold. "I told you, man, just say sorry to Sharon, and we can get back to business."
Victor clenched his jaw. He couldn't believe Seb was still hung up on this.
His face turned dark. "Seb, after all these years, you really gonna make it this messy?"
Grace, standing nearby, suddenly looked uneasy. She kept her head down, and neither of them noticed her reaction.
"You made it messy. Apologize or get lost. Silvercrest Group ain't ever working with Edwards Group again."
Seb's icy tone got under Victor's skin, and the way Seb dismissed their friendship was infuriating.
Fine, if that's how it was, no point in talking to Seb anymore.
Victor stood up, glaring down at Seb. He spoke slowly, "Seb, don't regret this. I'm done with you, and we're not friends anymore."
With that, Victor stormed out.
Grace hesitated, glancing at Seb. Seeing his cold stare, she shrank back and then hurried after Victor.
Even in the car, Victor's face was still stormy.
He slammed the steering wheel and cursed.
He never thought Seb would throw away their friendship over Sharon.
Seeing Victor's anger, Grace bit her lip and softly said, "Victor, why not just apologize to Sharon? You and Seb have been friends for so long, and the partnership between Edwards Group and Silvercrest Group is crucial."
Under Victor's icy gaze, Grace's voice trailed off.
Victor sneered. "Me, apologize to Sharon? She's not worth it."
Grace's eyes flickered. She sighed and said slowly, "As long as she's around, if you don't apologize, Seb won't work with Edwards Group again. And even though my health's a bit better, who knows when it might get worse. I just hope you and Seb can make up."
A murderous glint flashed in Victor's eyes. He had thought that since Sharon was Seb's girl, he wouldn't touch her.
But now, Sharon was wrecking his friendship with Seb and the partnership between Edwards Group and Silvercrest Group.
Sharon had to go.
Grace watched Victor's profile carefully. Seeing the darkness in his eyes and a hint of hesitation, she didn't push further.
If she said too much, not only would she fail to achieve her goal, but Victor might also get suspicious and it could all backfire.
Victor was silent for a while, seemingly making a firm decision, then revved up the car and drove off.
After dropping Grace off, Victor headed to the office.
Watching his car disappear, Grace's lips curled into a smile.
Once Victor took out Sharon, she'd tell Seb and use it to her advantage.
If Victor had been as in love with her as before, she might've felt guilty.
But thinking about Victor's recent coldness, Grace's eyes lost all warmth.
Back at the office, Victor immediately called Dominic in.
"Get Samuel on the line!"
Seeing Victor's cold face, Dominic felt uneasy.
"Mr. Edwards, cutting ties with Silvercrest Group really hurt us. If we go after Sharon now and Mr. Smith finds out, I'm afraid..."
Victor sneered. "Sharon's gotta vanish if we want any chance with Silvercrest Group again."
Dominic frowned, wanting to argue, but seeing the fire in Victor's eyes, he kept his mouth shut.
Victor was the boss, after all.
"Alright, I'll get Samuel on it right away."
After Dominic left, Victor gripped the documents in his hand so tight his knuckles turned white, eyes wild with madness.
As long as Sharon was out of the picture, everything would fall into place.
That evening, Sharon was deep into solving a problem. Just as she was about to finish, the doorbell rang, breaking her concentration.
Sharon frowned, got up, and walked to the door. Seeing it was Seb, a flash of annoyance crossed her face.
She opened the door, her expression cold. "Mr. Smith, what do you want?"
"I brought you some food and wanted to check on your recovery."
Sharon glanced at the thermos in Seb's hand, her eyes flickering, but she didn't take it.
"I'm fine. Tell the housekeeper to stop bringing me food. We don't need to see each other anymore."
She moved to close the door.
Seb quickly blocked it with his boot. He looked at Sharon seriously. "Sharon, even if we can't be lovers, can't we at least be friends?"
Sharon stared at Seb for a few seconds, then suddenly laughed.
"Seems like a lot of people want to stay in touch with their exes under the guise of friendship. But when you've loved deeply and parted badly, it's hard to be friends. Given our history, do you really think it's appropriate? We both have plenty of friends, so let's stop pretending."
Seb wanted to keep her close as a friend, but Sharon wasn't interested in that kind of ambiguous relationship. It could only lead to trouble.
"Sharon, you really won't give me any chance at all."
Even though they'd been intimate and Sharon had been pregnant with his child, she never let him get close.
After their fling, Sharon pushed him away, saying adults shouldn't take it seriously. When she got pregnant, she secretly had an abortion to cut ties.
From start to finish, it seemed he was the only one losing sleep over her.
Seb even started to doubt if Sharon had ever loved him.
"Mr. Smith, plenty of women like you. No need to waste your time on me."
Seb's expression turned bitter. He handed over the thermos.
"I won't bother you anymore. This is the last meal the housekeeper prepared. She won't come over starting tomorrow."
Sharon pressed her lips together, hesitated, then took it. "Thanks."
Seb forced a smile. "No need, Sharon. Goodbye."
"Goodbye."
Sharon's face stayed indifferent, like he was just a stranger.
Seb's lips curled into a bitter smile. 'This is all my own doing.'
Sharon didn't look at Seb again and closed the door.
She placed the food on the table and went back to her desk to finish the problem she was working on. Only after solving it did she feel a sense of accomplishment.
Checking the time, it was past seven, and her stomach was growling.
Sharon touched her stomach, got up, and walked to the dining table, opening the thermos.
The food inside was still warm and all her favorite dishes.
The food looked fancy, clearly from a five-star restaurant, not the housekeeper who'd been bringing her meals for the past month.
Sharon calmly sat down and ate. After finishing, she cleaned up and went downstairs to take out the trash and take a walk.
After her walk, she returned to find a tall figure lingering downstairs.
