Chapter 284 Do Not Break the Engagement

Hearing that, Sharon scoffed, "He snatched my kid without asking and now wants to fight me for custody? What a joke! No way I'm giving up on Demetrius!"

Nathan adjusted his glasses and pulled a document from his briefcase, handing it to Sharon. "Ms. Roach, this is the paternity test report for Mr. Smith and Demetrius. It shows they're father and son, so Mr. Smith has the right to fight for custody."

Sharon didn't even glance at the document, just stared at Nathan with a blank face. "He did this test behind my back. I won't accept it!"

Nathan stayed cool and continued, "Ms. Roach, this paternity test is legally binding. My client, Mr. Smith, is ready to file a lawsuit. We'd prefer to settle this peacefully, but if not, we'll go to court."

Sharon realized Seb was dead set on fighting for Demetrius.

She nodded. "Fine, see you in court then."

With that, she brushed past Nathan and left.

Nathan dialed Seb's number to give him the lowdown. "Mr. Smith, Ms. Roach still won't budge. Looks like we're heading to court."

"Got it. Stick to the plan." Hanging up, Seb rubbed his temples and pushed open the bedroom door.

Demetrius was still crying, but his loud sobs had turned into sniffles.

Hearing the door open, Demetrius grabbed the crystal ball on the nightstand and chucked it at Seb, yelling, "Get out! You big meanie, I hate you!"

The crystal ball just landed on the carpet at Seb's feet, rolled a bit, and stopped in the corner.

He remembered when Sharon had thrown a document at him, her expression and actions almost identical to Demetrius's now. Seb's eyes narrowed.

"You've really picked up a lot of bad habits from Sharon."

At the mention of Sharon, Demetrius got even angrier. "Don't you talk about my mom! You big meanie, I hate you! I'll never accept you as my dad! I want Mr. Cook to be my dad!"

Hearing that, Seb's forehead veins bulged instantly, and he said coldly, "Whether you like it or not, I am your father. You can't just pick someone else to be your dad!"

Zachary had been playing the good guy behind the scenes, hanging out with Sharon and Demetrius for a long time. No wonder Demetrius was so attached to him.

Thinking about missing out on Demetrius's life while Zachary played dad made Seb's hatred for Sharon grow.

Demetrius shouted, "I don't want a dad like you! I'd rather have the dead father mom always talks about!"

As soon as Demetrius finished speaking, the room's temperature dropped.

Facing Seb's icy stare, Demetrius shivered, looked away instinctively, his hatred for Seb growing.

To him, Seb was nothing compared to Zachary—neither as gentle nor as kind. He even badmouthed his mom. Demetrius decided he would hate Seb forever and never accept him as his dad!

"Say that again?" Seb's voice was filled with a terrifying aura, making Demetrius shiver.

Scared by his grim expression, Demetrius started crying again. "I hate you. I don't want you. I want my mom."

Demetrius's cries were loud, giving Seb a headache. He couldn't help but shout, "Shut up!"

Startled, Demetrius paused for a second, then cranked up the volume on his crying.

Seb's face twisted in frustration. He had zero experience with kids and instinctively tried to boss Demetrius around like he did with his employees, which totally backfired.

He glared at Demetrius, eyes full of irritation.

If Demetrius wasn't his kid, he would've kicked him out already.

Paul walked in with snacks, seeing Seb and Demetrius in a standoff—one looking pissed, the other bawling his eyes out. He sighed, "Mr. Smith, wasn't Demetrius calm before I left? How'd he start crying again so fast?"

Seb looked annoyed. "Comfort him."

Then he turned and stormed out.

Paul was left speechless.

Seb made the kid cry and now wanted him to fix it?

Paul sighed, put down the snacks, and squatted next to Demetrius to calm him down.

Outside the bedroom, Seb lit a cigarette but didn't smoke it, just stared at the smoke with a grim look, trying to squash his irritation.

He sucked at dealing with kids. He'd met clients' kids at dinners before, but they were always polite and well-behaved. He'd never dealt with a kid as wild as Demetrius.

He blamed Sharon's lousy parenting for Demetrius's behavior.

Thinking of Sharon, her beautiful but stubborn face popped into his mind, making him even more frustrated.

Both Sharon and Demetrius were a pain in the neck.

Seb still couldn't figure out how he got tangled up with Sharon in the first place and let her secretly have his kid.

Suddenly, a sharp pain hit his head, making his face go pale.

It took a few minutes for the pain to ease, and Seb lost interest in figuring out how he met Sharon.

He stubbed out the cigarette, grabbed his phone, and was about to head back to the bedroom when his phone rang.

Seeing it was Rebecca, Seb remembered he'd been swamped with the amusement park project and hadn't contacted her for almost a week.

Considering she was his fiancée, Seb figured he should tell her about Demetrius. It wouldn't be fair to keep it from her now that he suddenly had a kid.

With that in mind, Seb answered the call.

Rebecca's sweet voice came through the phone. "Seb, what have you been busy with lately? We haven't seen each other for almost a week. Do you have time for dinner tonight?"

"I have something to tell you." Seb's voice was as cold as ever.

"What is it?" Rebecca's voice was curious, with a hint of playfulness.

"I have a son."

There was a sound of something dropping, followed by Rebecca's panicked voice. "Seb, what are you talking about? I don't understand."

Seb stayed indifferent, speaking slowly, "A woman secretly had my kid. I plan to bring the kid to live with me."

"How is that possible? Is that woman lying to you?" Rebecca's voice was panicked and tearful, a bit hoarse.

"I've already done a paternity test." As soon as he finished speaking, there was complete silence on the other end.

Seb waited for a bit, not hearing her voice, and said in a deep voice, "That kid will live with me from now on. This isn't fair to you, so you can reconsider our engagement. If you want to break it off, I can..."

Before Seb could finish, Rebecca interrupted him, "No! I don't want to break off the engagement!"
