Chapter 455 Her Husband Is the One Who Wants to Harm Her

Leo didn't even get a word in before Demetrius made a beeline for the driver, hopped in the car, and took off.

As the Cayenne disappeared down the road, Leo's eyes narrowed.

"Daddy!" Suddenly, Leo felt a little tug on his leg. He looked down to see Jerold, his face lit up with surprise. "Daddy, how come you have time to pick me up today?"

Leo and Ayla were usually swamped with work, so they mostly had the driver pick up and drop off Jerold. It was rare for them to do it themselves.

Jerold had spotted Leo at the kindergarten gate and couldn't believe his eyes. He didn't expect it to really be his dad.

Leo grinned and scooped Jerold up. "Daddy got off work early today, so I came to pick you up. Did you have a good day at school?"

Jerold shrugged. "It was okay."

Seeing that Jerold wasn't upset, Leo carried him towards the car. "What do you want to eat tonight? I'll have the servant whip it up."

Jerold's face lit up as he rattled off a list of dishes, full of excitement.

After they got home and finished dinner, Ayla still hadn't shown up. Jerold waited for a bit but started nodding off on the sofa, almost falling off a few times.

Leo gently picked him up. "Jerold, Mommy might have to work late tonight. You should go to bed first. When she comes back, I'll have her check on you, okay?"

Jerold's eyes showed a hint of disappointment. Lately, both Ayla and Leo had been super busy, and he hadn't seen Ayla for days. "Okay."

After having the servant take Jerold upstairs to bed, Leo grabbed a book and settled on the living room sofa to read. It wasn't until after eleven that Ayla finally came home, looking beat.

Leo put down his book, got up, and took her coat. "Rough day? Want me to give you a massage?"

Ayla shook her head. "No need, I need to pack some things. I have a business trip tomorrow."

Leo frowned. "So soon? Jerold wanted to wait for you after dinner, but he got too sleepy, so I had the servant take him to bed. He'll be bummed if he wakes up and finds out you're gone."

Ayla sighed. "There's no other way. The company's production line is still halted, and delaying any further will only cause more losses. Once this busy period is over, things will get better."

Leo nodded. "Alright, I'll help you pack. Do you want me to go with you? I don't have much on my plate right now."

Ayla paused while putting on her slippers and said softly, "No need, I can handle it myself."

Garry didn't trust Leo, and taking him on the business trip would surely tick Garry off. For Ayla, being the general manager and successor of the Bridges Group was the top priority.

Even if one day Garry demanded she divorce Leo to take over the Bridges Group, she would do it in a heartbeat. The Bridges Group was way more important than love.

She had married Leo on a whim, and now she realized how crucial it was to have a man who could help the Bridges Group. If she had married someone of equal status, the Bridges Group wouldn't have had to sell a company to get through this crisis.

Leo pursed his lips and nodded. "Okay."

After packing, it was nearly midnight.

Ayla took her pajamas to shower, and when she returned to the bedroom, Leo was still awake, holding a hairdryer to dry her hair.

After drying her hair, he put down the hairdryer and said, "Ayla, I'm thinking about finding a job."

Ayla's expression shifted. "Why do you suddenly want to find a job?"

Leo replied, "Now that the gaming company is sold and the Bridges Group is still in recovery mode, your grandpa probably won't set me up with a job anytime soon. I might as well find something on my own. I can't just let you support me."

Seeing the determination in Leo's eyes, Ayla paused for a moment. "Let's talk about it when I get back from the business trip. Maybe Grandpa has other plans for you."

Leo walked over, knelt down in front of her, and looked up. "Ayla, I don't want your grandfather to arrange things for me anymore. I didn't want to join the Bridges family company in the first place, but we had just gotten married, and I couldn't say no. I didn't expect to be stuck at the gaming company for years. Now that it's sold, I want to work outside."

He added, "Besides, I feel bad for not helping you during the crisis. If I work outside, I might achieve something and be able to help you out. What do you think?"

Ayla was touched by his words. She needed a partner who could support her, not someone who was just along for the ride.

She nodded. "Alright, just don't overdo it."

Leo smiled, "Don't worry, I know my limits."

The next morning, after dropping Ayla off at the airport, Leo headed straight to Starlight Corporation.

As soon as he walked into Jerry's office, Jerry immediately stood up. "Mr. Wendy, you're here?"

Jerry's demeanor was respectful, a stark contrast to his relaxed attitude towards Ayla. He seemed tense.

Leo sat down in Jerry's office chair and calmly asked, "How's the gaming company?"

Jerry replied, "Mr. Wendy, the gaming company is still running as usual, but the controlling shareholder is no longer in your name. Do you need me to have the lawyer handle it today?"

Leo said with no expression, "No need, we'll deal with that later. Keep a close eye on the gaming company. I don't want any surprises right now."

Jerry quickly nodded. "Don't worry, Mr. Wendy. Everything is under control. Within a month, the Bridges Group will definitely change its name to Wendy."

While speaking, he kept his head down, not daring to look directly at Leo. No one knew that Leo was the owner of Starlight Corporation and Vertex Innovations Group.

For years, he had been lying low, and Jerry thought he was really planning to be a live-in son-in-law in the Bridges family. But a little over a month ago, Leo suddenly decided to go against the Bridges family.

Jerry didn't dare to ask more and just followed Leo's instructions.

Leo said, "Ayla is on a business trip to find a partner. When she finds one, you know what to do with Starlight Corporation's amusement park project."

Jerry replied, "Yes! I understand!"

Leo reviewed Starlight Corporation's recent financial reports ,and after confirming there were no issues, he left.

After seeing him off, Jerry wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, feeling a bit sympathetic towards Ayla, who was working so hard to find a partner, not realizing that her husband was the one plotting against her.

Meanwhile, in the Silvercrest Group president's office.

Paul knocked and entered, handing a document to Seb. "Mr. Smith, Starlight Corporation indeed has issues. Their latest investment in the amusement park is just a shell project. They haven't even secured the land, so it's impossible to proceed. But they've already taken billions of dollars from the Bridges Group."
