Chapter 271 Seb Must Not See Demetrius's Face!

Seb kept his face like stone, his voice cold as ice. "You must be seeing things."

"I'm serious! I was in such a rush, didn't get a chance to snap a pic. I swear, if you saw it, you'd be floored. I even think it might be your secret kid!"

Seb, sounding annoyed, shot back, "If that's all, I'm hanging up."

"Wait, what about the amusement park project Silvercrest Group's bidding on? Do I still have a shot?"

"Come to the branch office tomorrow and see me." And with that, Seb ended the call.

Just as Seb was about to put his phone down, it buzzed again.

Seeing Rebecca's name, Seb's eyes darkened. After a moment, he answered, "What's up?"

"Seb, forget what I said the other day. Since you're not into getting hitched right now, I won't push. My career's taking off anyway. We can talk marriage later, cool?"

Seb stayed quiet for a bit. To be fair, Rebecca had been a solid fiancée over the years.

If he dumped Rebecca, Sandra and Tyler would definitely set him up with someone else. Better to keep things as they were.

Rebecca, not hearing Seb's response, started to worry.

If Seb was still pissed about what she said and wanted to break off the engagement, she'd lose all face in Metropolis.

She added, "Seb, you still mad?"

"No, let's go with your plan. But I can't promise when we'll get married."

Rebecca let out a sigh of relief, saying, "I get it, and I don't mind. Just being by your side is enough."

Rebecca had a plan: stay engaged, get Seb into bed, and if she got pregnant, there was no way Seb would ditch her and the baby.

"Okay," Seb replied.

Hearing this, Rebecca finally relaxed. As long as she could keep Seb, she could handle everything else later.

"There's a fashion show tomorrow night. My friend had to go on a business trip and can't make it. Can you come with me?"

"Sure."

Rebecca, excited, said, "I'll come find you tomorrow afternoon."

After hanging up, a cold glint flashed in Rebecca's eyes.

In the middle of the night, Demetrius suddenly spiked a high fever, probably from his wound.

Sharon gave him some fever meds and stayed up all night taking care of him. When the meds wore off in the morning, Demetrius started burning up again. Sharon dressed him and took him to the hospital.

The tests showed the fever was from the wound. The doc prescribed two IV drips for Demetrius.

Because of the fever, Demetrius was drowsy and fell asleep in Sharon's arms.

After finishing one IV drip, Demetrius felt a bit better.

Sharon called Bonnie over to watch Demetrius while she had to go to the lab. But as soon as she moved, Demetrius woke up.

"Mom, can you stay home with me today and not go to work?" Demetrius's voice was hoarse, with a pleading tone and a hint of vulnerability.

He rarely acted spoiled, and his words made Sharon's heart melt, especially since he was sick.

"Okay, I'll take the day off to stay with you."

Leaving Bonnie to watch over Demetrius, Sharon went to the stairwell to call Lavern and ask for leave.

Sharon rarely took time off, so Lavern readily agreed and even suggested she take a few more days to rest. The Alzheimer's drug research had just wrapped up, and there wasn't much to do before starting the next project, so she could take a break.

Thinking she hadn't spent much time with Demetrius lately, Sharon decided to take two weeks off to hang out with him.

After getting the leave approved, Sharon came back, and Bonnie quickly stood up. "Ms. Roach, Demetrius said he wants some porridge. It's too late to make it now, so I'll go grab some from a restaurant. What do you want?"

"I'll have the same. You haven't eaten yet, have you?"

"I already ate. I'll go grab the porridge."

Sharon sat down next to Demetrius and touched his forehead. The fever had gone down, and she finally breathed a sigh of relief.

She said, "Demetrius, is there anything you want to do or any place you want to go? I've got two weeks off, so we can hang out."

Hearing that, Demetrius's eyes lit up but then he lowered his head. "Mom, you don't have to take time off for me. I..."

Sharon held his small hand and spoke gently, "Demetrius, I work hard so I can have time to spend with you. Now that I have the time, you just need to think about where you want to go. Don't worry about anything else."

"Then I want to go to the amusement park."

Sharon thought for a moment, realizing she had never taken Demetrius to an amusement park.

Previously, when she asked if he wanted to go, Demetrius said he wasn't interested in such boring things. Now it seemed he wasn't uninterested; he just didn't want to interrupt her work.

Feeling a pang of guilt, Sharon realized that because Demetrius had grown up without a father, he had felt isolated in his first year of preschool. After Sharon found out, she made a scene at the preschool, and the children and their parents apologized. But Demetrius had started to become more independent after that.

Sharon had thought everything was moving in a positive direction, but now she realized Demetrius was more sensitive than his peers.

Pushing aside her chaotic thoughts, Sharon gently pinched Demetrius's cheek and smiled, "Alright, once you recover, we'll go to the amusement park."

For the next few days, Sharon stayed home to take care of Demetrius. He recovered quickly, and by the third day, he was already hinting at Sharon about her promise to go to the amusement park.

Sharon chuckled, touching his head dotingly, "Okay, I'll take you tomorrow."

The next morning, while Sharon was still sleeping, Demetrius had already gotten up, packed, and had breakfast.

By around eight o'clock, seeing that Sharon was still not up, Demetrius couldn't wait any longer and knocked on her door to wake her up.

After Sharon and Demetrius got ready and left, it was almost nine o'clock.

Since it wasn't the weekend, the amusement park wasn't too crowded, but there were still quite a few people.

Considering that Demetrius's head injury hadn't fully healed, Sharon only let him play on the gentler rides.

Even so, after a few hours, Sharon was exhausted.

Just as Sharon was about to find a place to eat, a surprised voice called out from behind, "Ms. Roach, what are you doing here on a weekday?"

The next second, Sharon turned to see Rufus and Seb standing not far away. She was shocked, unexpected of meeting Seb here.

The first thought that came to Sharon's mind was that she couldn't let Seb see Demetrius's face!

Fortunately, Sharon had prepared a few masks in Demetrius's backpack. She quickly opened his backpack and took out a mask for him to wear.

She told Demetrius, "Demetrius, no matter what, you can't take off this mask, okay?"

Just as she was putting the mask on Demetrius, Seb and Rufus had already walked up to them.
