Chapter 301 Going to Metropolis
"What the heck?" Sharon shoved him aside, bolted to Demetrius's room, and found the door wide open with chaos everywhere.
Her eyes widened in panic as she frantically searched for Demetrius, but he was nowhere to be found.
A wave of dread hit her, and she started shaking uncontrollably.
Just as she was about to dash out the door, Zachary grabbed her arm, "Sharon, chill. I've already called the cops and sent my guys to look for him. We'll find Demetrius soon. Running out now won't help."
Sharon yanked her arm free and kept moving, her face blank.
Zachary stepped in front of her, his voice firm for the first time, "Sharon, you can't go. I can't let anything happen to you while Demetrius is missing. I'd never forgive myself."
She glared at him, "Move!"
"No way," he replied. "Aidamore is huge. Where would you even start? You need to calm down."
"I'm calm," she snapped. "Sitting here doing nothing is killing me."
Thinking about Demetrius being taken and in danger made her heart ache so much she could barely breathe.
Zachary gripped her shoulders, speaking in a low voice, "I know you're freaking out, but you need to stay calm. Think hard, did you see what the intruders looked like?"
Sharon tried to remember but shook her head, "I don't know. When I saw the door open, I ran to the living room. I got knocked out after a few steps."
Zachary nodded, sharing his thoughts. "While you were out, the cops came. Nothing was stolen, and you weren't hurt except for being knocked out. This isn't revenge or a robbery. They only took Demetrius, so that was their goal. The person who wants Demetrius the most is Seb, so..."
Sharon's head snapped up, "You think Seb sent them?"
"Probably," Zachary replied, nodding. "If it was Seb's people, at least Demetrius is safe for now. He's his dad; he wouldn't hurt him."
Sharon clenched her teeth, "It has to be him!"
She stormed to the living room and dialed Seb's number.
The phone rang a few times before he picked up. "What's up?"
Sharon's voice was icy, "Seb, where did you take Demetrius? Give him back now, or you'll regret it!"
Seb was silent for a moment before his cold voice came through, "I don't know what you're talking about."
Sharon laughed bitterly, "Cut the crap. Taking Demetrius like this, you're not even a man!"
"Sharon, I told you," Seb replied, his tone icy, "I have nothing to do with Demetrius's disappearance."
"Then why weren't you worried when you heard he was missing?" Sharon shot back, her voice rising. "Why didn't you ask how it happened?"
The line went silent. After a few seconds, Seb's emotionless voice came through again, "I didn't take him, but he's safe. You can count on that."
Sharon exclaimed, her voice filled with anger, "You finally admit it! If it wasn't you, how do you know he's safe?"
"Just know that Demetrius is safe. That's all you need to know." And with that, Seb hung up.
Sharon tried calling back, but he didn't pick up. She was so furious she could barely think straight. Zachary, worried she'd do something rash, quickly grabbed her.
"Sharon, calm down. At least we know Demetrius is safe. I'll find out where Seb's hiding him. I promise we'll get him back. Don't worry," Zachary said firmly, looking her in the eyes.
With Zachary's gentle reassurance, Sharon's emotions finally started to settle. "Okay, I get it. Thanks, Zachary."
"Don't mention it. You're exhausted. Sit down and rest," Zachary replied, giving her a reassuring smile.
Zachary guided her to the sofa. Seeing her calm down a bit, he sighed in relief and immediately called his team to track down Seb.
Sharon took a deep breath, trying to suppress her urge to confront Seb, and looked up at Zachary, "It's getting late. You should go home."
Zachary said, "It's fine. I want to stay with you a bit longer."
The room fell silent. Zachary wanted to comfort her, but he knew that until Demetrius was found, nothing he said would really help.
Over an hour later, Zachary's phone rang.
Sharon's eyes locked onto his phone, filled with hope.
Zachary answered, and his subordinate's serious voice came through, "Mr. Cook, we've found out that Mr. Smith is currently in Metropolis. We haven't located Demetrius yet."
"Got it. Keep looking," Zachary responded curtly, his tone firm.
After hanging up, Zachary looked at Sharon, hesitant.
Sharon pressed her lips together, "I heard everything, Zachary. I'm going to Metropolis."
For years, Sharon had avoided Metropolis. She always turned down conferences or business trips there.
Zachary knew the incident five years ago was a wound that never fully healed. It had become a scar that still hurt when touched.
He looked at her seriously, "Are you sure? Going to Metropolis will disrupt your life."
Sharon gave a bitter smile, "Since Seb found out about Demetrius, my life hasn't been peaceful."
Five years ago, she would've run. Now, she was ready to face everything head-on.
Seeing the determination in her eyes, Zachary nodded, "Alright, I'll go with you."
"No need, I can handle it," Sharon replied, her voice steady.
Zachary frowned, "Sharon, you..."
She looked at him firmly, "Zachary, trust me. If I can't handle it, I'll call you."
Zachary had just returned to the Cook Group, and she didn't want him distracted by her and Demetrius.
She knew how hard he had worked and how much he wanted Doyle's approval.
Under her insistence, Zachary reluctantly agreed, "If anything happens, call me immediately."
Sharon nodded.
Zachary booked her a morning flight to Metropolis. He wanted to take her to the airport, but she refused, saying, "You have work at eight. I'll just take a cab."
"Then I'll have the driver take you. No arguments, or I'll take you myself," Zachary insisted, his tone leaving no room for debate.
