Chapter 335 Soon Going to Jail
"Thanks, Dad!" Demetrius beamed, his face lighting up.
Seb glanced from Demetrius to Sharon, a flicker of something in his eyes before they settled. "Ms. Roach, how's the recovery going?" he asked.
Sharon met Seb's gaze and felt a jolt. She couldn't tell if it was merely an illusion, but just now, she sensed that when Seb looked at her, it seemed as though he had regained his memories.
"Mr. Smith, I'm doing much better. I have got discharged from the hospital. I can't thank you enough for what you did. If it weren't for you, I might not be here," Sharon said, her voice full of gratitude.
She never expected Seb to risk his life for her. Thinking back to that moment, her heart fluttered.
Seb looked down, his voice cold. "You're important to Demetrius. I didn't want to see him upset."
Sharon was taken aback but nodded. "Still, I'm really grateful. If it's okay, I'd like to help take care of you until you're out of the hospital."
Seb was her savior, and he didn't need money. The least she could do was look after him.
"That's not necessary," Seb replied.
Sharon frowned. "Mr. Smith—"
"We should keep our distance. If you take care of me, Mr. Cook might not be happy. Besides, Paul has told me what happened five years ago. It was my fault, so you don't need to feel guilty," Seb cut in.
Sharon was about to argue when Seb interrupted again, "I'm tired. You should go. I'll have someone protect you and Demetrius, so don't worry about any danger."
Seeing Seb close his eyes, Sharon clenched her hands. "Alright, Mr. Smith, thank you."
After Sharon and Demetrius left, Seb opened his eyes and looked at Paul. "So, how'd you catch those guys?"
"After you and Ms. Roach fell, they knew they couldn't escape and gave up. Another one was caught at the top of the mountain. Mr. Demetrius Smith was hiding in a cave covered by bushes. He came out after they were all caught," Paul explained.
"Got it," Seb said.
Over the next few weeks, Sharon found a new place and moved in, while Seb's health improved, and he started walking again. Even though Seb told Sharon not to come, she still brought soup every day with Demetrius. Seb went from refusing her to just ignoring her.
Once Seb had largely recuperated, he commenced addressing the matter of Alex's abduction of Sharon and Demetrius. David and Clara, having heard about it, learned that Seb had detained Alex and stormed into the hospital to confront him.
"Seb, where's my son? Let him go now, or I'll call the cops!" Clara barged in while Seb was drinking soup.
Clara's anger flared when she saw Seb's calm demeanor, and she knocked the soup bowl out of his hands, spilling it on the blanket.
Seb's gaze turned icy, and the cold aura made Clara shiver and step back. She gritted her teeth and raised her voice. "Seb, don't try to scare me! I'm not afraid of you! Where's Alex? If you don't tell me, you'll regret it!"
Seb looked up, his eyes cold. "Call the cops if you want. But I guarantee your son will end up in prison."
Clara was stunned, then sneered, "What nonsense! You should be the one in prison!"
David's expression changed. He knew Seb well enough to know he wouldn't say that without solid evidence. Something must have happened.
He quickly pulled Clara behind him and whispered, "Shut up!"
Clara looked reluctant but didn't argue. "Seb, you're Alex's elder. If he did something wrong, you can punish him. But keeping him locked up isn't right, is it?" David said, trying to sound reasonable.
Seb's cold gaze shifted to David. "David, Alex kidnapped Sharon and my son Demetrius, extorted two hundred million dollars from me using Demetrius, and planned to kill him after getting the money. How do you think I should punish Alex to make sure he learns his lesson?"
David's face froze, disbelief in his eyes. "That's impossible. He couldn't have done that."
Clara's eyes widened. She remembered Alex mentioning that Sharon wasn't dead and had even given birth to Seb's child. She hadn't believed it then, but now it seemed true. That wretched Sharon!
Seb raised an eyebrow, his gaze deepening as he looked at David. "What's so impossible? The money he used to hire the thugs came from you."
"What?" David's face turned deathly pale. He had thought Seb had detained Alex because he found out Alex was secretly buying shares from the Smith Group's shareholders. He never imagined Alex would do something so heinous.
When Alex had the idea, David had tried to dissuade him, but Alex wouldn't listen. Now, Alex had ruined his own life! However, Seb still had Alex detained, and there was no news about it. It seemed Seb was still considering family ties and intended to keep this matter hidden.
He looked at Seb with pleading eyes. "Seb, it's my fault for not raising Alex properly. But no matter what, he's still your nephew. Can you let him go this once for my sake? I promise I'll take him abroad, and you'll never see him again!"
However, his heartfelt supplication failed to elicit any change in Seb's countenance. Seb said coldly, "David, some things only need to happen once."
Alex had almost killed Sharon and Demetrius. Seb couldn't let someone who posed such a danger to Sharon and Demetrius just go abroad. Who could guarantee Alex wouldn't come back one day to seek revenge if he was unhappy? His priority was to protect Sharon and Demetrius.
David caught the flash of murderous intent in Seb's eyes, and his heart sank. He suddenly knelt before Seb. Clara was startled and quickly tried to pull him up. "David, are you crazy? How can you kneel to Seb? Get up!"
David pushed her away, his eyes fixed on Seb, desperate. "Seb, Clara and I only have Alex. If he dies, we won't be able to live either. I'm not asking for much. Do whatever you want to him, just spare his life. Even if he's crippled, I'll accept it! Please!"
Seb looked down at him and said slowly, "David, the doctor who hypnotized me five years ago, you were the one who hired him, right?"
David's body stiffened, and he looked up at Seb in shock and fear. "You've regained your memory?"
How was that possible? Willie had left the day after Seb refused Tyler. How could Seb have found him? And even if he did, Willie wouldn't have restored Seb's memory.
"I have Alex to thank for this. If he hadn't kidnapped Sharon, I wouldn't have fallen off the mountain trying to save her, hit my head, and remembered everything," Seb explained, his face calm, but David could sense danger.
David gritted his teeth. "Yes, I found the doctor who hypnotized you, but I did it for your own good."
"For my own good?" Seb chuckled, but it was a cold, chilling sound. "Do you think I'm an idiot? Was it really for my good, or was it to take over the Smith Group?"
David's lips moved, but he felt utterly defeated. Seb knew all his schemes and true intentions. No matter what he said, it would only make him look more pathetic.
"Before I lost my memory, I believed I had never wronged your family. I was with Sharon after Alex cheated on her and they divorced. I did nothing wrong to Alex. Five years ago, you schemed against me. Now, Alex kidnapped Sharon and Demetrius. Do you think I should let Alex go?" Seb asked.
David's body collapsed like a house of cards. At that moment, he finally understood what despair felt like. Seb's words made it clear he wouldn't spare Alex.
David said, "Seb, I know it's too late to say anything now. It's our fault. I'll use my life to atone for Alex. As your brother, this is my last wish."
With that, he pushed Clara aside and ran towards the window. Clara collapsed in fear. "David!"
Seb's expression didn't change at all; he didn't even blink. Just as David was about to jump out the window, Seb's cold voice came from behind. "Unfortunately, I'm not part of the Smith family. Even if you jump, I won't spare Alex."
David's movements froze, and he fell to the ground, his face full of despair and pain. He finally understood why those who opposed Seb in the business world either disappeared or avoided him. Seb could destroy a person emotionally, making them feel even more hopeless after experiencing despair.
David looked at Seb, realizing he had never truly understood him. "When did you find out?"
"I have the surveillance footage from the Smith Mansion's living room. What do you think?" Seb replied.
David's eyes suddenly locked onto Clara, who was slumped on the floor, her face ghostly pale. Anger flared in his eyes. "Clara! What a wonderful wife you are! And a perfect mother to Alex!"
If she hadn't mentioned it in the living room that day, Seb might never have known. He might have spared Alex, considering him his nephew. But now, everything was ruined!
