Chapter 69 What right does he have to question her?
Rebecca's smile froze a bit. Before she could speak, Sandra slammed her fork onto the table. "Seb, that's not how you help!"
She asked him to serve Rebecca to help them bond, but Seb nearly served the whole plate to Rebecca
If word got out, it'd offend the Walkers.
Seb smiled at Sandra. "Mom, since you know I'm bad at this, don't assign me such tasks."
Sandra was furious, about to explode when Rebecca interjected, "It's okay; I happen to like fish. Mr. Smith serving it directly saves me from bothering him repeatedly."
Seeing her willing to find an excuse for him, Sandra was naturally all smiles and even more satisfied with her. "Rebecca, you're so kind. You only know how to upset me, Seb. By the way, you should drive her home after dinner."
Seb frowned, about to refuse when Rebecca beat him to it. "No need; I drove here."
She could clearly sense he had no interest in her, so forcing him to drive her home wouldn't progress anything. She might as well take a step back to advance later.
After all, BrightWave Technologies and Silvercrest Group were about to collaborate soon. She'd have plenty of opportunities to get close to him then.
Sandra thought it must be Seb's attitude that made Rebecca refuse her offer, so she glared at him.
Seb pretended not to see it, his expression remaining indifferent.
After all, he had never agreed to meet Rebecca; it was Sandra's idea.
If he had known tonight's dinner was meant to set him up with Rebecca, he wouldn't have come.
Rebecca's gaze fell on Alex and Sharon across the table. Seeing Alex's meticulous care for Sharon, she spoke up, "Mr. Alex treats Ms. Wright really well."
Alex peeled the shrimp in his hand and placed it in Sharon's bowl, smiling at Rebecca teasingly. "Ms. Walker, don't be envious. Once you're with Uncle Seb, he'll treat you just as well."
Hearing this, Rebecca unconsciously glanced at Seb, who looked indifferent. She felt he wasn't the type to pamper a woman like that.
Sure enough, Seb looked at Alex coldly the next second. "Don't assume everyone is like you. If I remember correctly, you weren't always this nice to her. Did you do something wrong?"
Alex's smile froze, his gaze at Seb turning cold.
Sensing the unusual tension between them, Rebecca frowned, feeling something indescribable.
After a few seconds of staring, Alex pulled Sharon into his arms while smiling. "Uncle Seb, you're overthinking. Sharon and I are very close."
Sharon lowered her gaze, trying hard to suppress the urge of pushing Alex's hand away.
Since she decided to return to him, such physical contact was inevitable. If she always acted cold, Alex would definitely suspect her motives for returning.
Seb chuckled lightly, "If you're so close, why did she move out?"
Sandra looked at Sharon in surprise, her brows furrowing.
Sharon had moved out.
Sandra wasn't entirely satisfied with Sharon as a granddaughter-in-law. After all, when she married Alex, the Wrights had already gone bankrupt. Sandra suspected she had ulterior motives regarding the Smith family's wealth.
However, Alex liked Sharon. He knelt at the Smith mansion's gate for three days, insisting he'd only marry her. No amount of persuasion worked. In the end, they couldn't resist his determination, so she and Tyler reluctantly agreed.
After the marriage, Sharon was sensible and well-behaved, lessening Sandra's prejudice against her significantly. But now, her dissastisfaction resurfaced when hearing she had moved out.
If word got out, people might think Sharon was being mistreated here.
Alex's expression deepened as he looked at Seb and said slowly, "Uncle Seb, you might not know, but Sharon moved back in today."
Seb's pupils shrank, his icy gaze turning to Sharon, who had remained silent.
He wanted to ask if she really planned to forgive Alex so easily, but he couldn't. He was just Alex's uncle; they had nothing beyond that. He had no right to question her.
Though Sharon kept her head down, she could feel his gaze on her.
A chilling coldness rose from her feet, making her body tremble involuntarily.
After a good ten seconds, Seb finally chuckled, "Well, that's good."
He looked away, his face smiling but his eyes cold as ice.
Alex's eyes flashed with pride as he smiled. "Uncle Seb, you still don't have a girlfriend; you should worry more about yourself. I think Ms. Walker is quite suitable for you. What do you think, Sharon?"
He turned to Sharon, seeking her opinion.
Sharon forced a smile and nodded. "Yes, Ms. Walker is gentle, beautiful, and graceful. She's indeed a good match for Uncle Seb."
"Then I'll take Ms. Wright's good wishes." Rebecca smiled, albeit her gaze at Sharon was scrutinizing.
She couldn't help but feel that Seb treated Sharon differently.
The rest of the dinner was rather silent, with everyone lost in their own thoughts.
As the dinner was about to end, Alex got a call from his secretary, saying there was an issue at the company that needed his attention.
He intended to leave with Sharon, but Sandra suddenly spoke up, "You go handle your work first; Sharon will stay here. I want to have a chat with her."
After hesitating a bit, Alex looked at Sharon. "Sharon, wait here for me. I'll come get you once the issue is resolved."
Sharon nodded. "Okay."
Seeing his worried look, Sandra frowned. "Are you worried about her here?"
Alex replied, "No, Grandma, I'll head to the company now."
Shortly after he left, Rebecca also got up to leave.
Sandra smiled at her. "Rebecca, come by more often when you have time."
"Sure, I'll visit often. I just hope you won't find me annoying."
"Of course not. If it weren't so late, I'd have you stay longer. Seb, see Rebecca out."
After Rebecca and Seb disappeared through the door, Sandra looked at Sharon indifferently. "Come with me."
Half an hour later, Sharon followed Sandra out of the study.
"Do you remember what I just told you?" Sandra asked.
Sharon lowered her gaze and nodded. "Yes, Grandma, I remember."
"Good. Now that you're part of the Smiths, your every move represents us. It's normal for couples to argue, but it'll bring shame to us if outsiders find out."
"Understood."
Seeing Sharon's obedient expression, Sandra said no more and turned to her bedroom.
Sharon left the living room, intending to sit in the garden pavilion while waiting for Alex to pick her up.
The garden was dimly lit with a few faint lights. When she reached the pavilion, she found someone already there.
It was Seb!
He looked in a bad mood.
She frowned, about to leave when his icy voice echoed. "Come here!"
