Chapter 356 Even Randy Has Started Dating
Dwayne asked, "Is it because I set up the blind date at the racetrack?"
Sophie smiled, but her eyes were icy. "You already know, so why ask? I've got other things to do. Enjoy the race. Goodbye." She stood up and walked out.
Just as she reached the door, Dwayne called out, "Ms. Lee, I messed up today. How about I make it up to you with dinner?"
Sophie paused but didn't turn around. "No need. Besides, aren't you and Mr. Carr good friends?"
Dwayne smiled and was about to speak when the door of the private room was pushed open once again.
Randy walked in, saw Dwayne and Sophie, and froze. His brows furrowed. 'Why is Sophie here?' he wondered, shooting Dwayne a questioning look.
Dwayne noticed and said, "Randy, you know Ms. Lee, so there is no need for introductions, right?"
Randy asked, "Didn't you invite me to watch the race? What's she doing here?"
"Ms. Lee is my blind date. I thought it'd be fun to invite her along," Dwayne explained.
Randy was silent, gritting his teeth to keep from cursing Dwayne. He said coldly, "Fine, since you're on a date, I won't bother you."
Though he considered Dwayne a friend, Dwayne's pursuit of Sophie, who had captured his own interest, felt like an act of betrayal. Even though Sophie had rejected him, Dwayne's actions still stung.
With that, Randy turned and left, his back radiating anger.
Sophie pressed her lips together, gripping her bag strap tighter. When Randy showed up, she felt a wave of panic and guilt. She had nothing to do with Randy. Even if she married someone else today, it had nothing to do with him. It must be the kiss they shared last night that left her feeling unsettled.
With that thought, Sophie took a deep breath and quickly walked out of the private room.
Dwayne watched her leave, a mysterious smile on his face.
In the lobby, she saw Randy standing not far away, clearly waiting for her. She hesitated, then slowly walked over. "Mr. Smith, you're here..."
"Sophie, are you in such a rush to get married? Afraid I'll pester you?" Randy asked, his gaze intense.
Sophie was stunned for a moment, then calmly said, "No, it has nothing to do with you."
Randy nodded, sneered, turned around, and left. He even forgot his intention to inquire whether she had been at the bar the previous night.
Over the next few days, Maria set up two blind dates a day for Sophie, determined to find her a match. Sophie felt like an unsellable product.
Maria sighed, "Even Randy, the general manager of the Smith Group, is going on blind dates. He's six years younger than you. Aren't you a bit anxious?"
Sophie was taken aback; she didn't expect Randy to start going on blind dates too. She lowered her eyes, expressionless. "What does it matter to me if others go on blind dates?"
"Actually, he's quite good. If he weren't six years younger, I might have introduced him to you," Maria continued.
Sophie stayed quiet while Maria kept talking. Eventually, Sophie lost interest, got up, and went upstairs.
Just then, Leonard walked in, looking pretty down. Maria put down her teacup. "What's up? Why the long face?"
Leonard slumped onto the sofa, his voice weak. "The Lee Group lost another big contract today. If this keeps up, we're gonna be in the red soon."
Maria frowned. "What are we gonna do? Can we hold on a bit longer? Sophie hasn't found a match yet!"
They'd been pushing Sophie to go on blind dates because the Lee Group was in trouble and needed a strong partner to help them out. Sophie had initially refused, but after learning about the company's situation, she finally agreed to the dates.
Leonard was quiet for a bit, then said coldly, "Maybe we should stop forcing Sophie into these blind dates. I've been thinking a lot lately. Her happiness is more important than the company. We can't ruin her life for this."
"How is this ruining her life? The guys I've found for her are all good matches and her future won't be too hard. Besides, if we don't push her, what if she plans to stay single forever?" Maria argued.
Leonard replied, "If she really doesn't want to get married, we shouldn't force her. If the Lee Group can't survive, then maybe it's just fate."
Maria's eyes turned red, and she looked away, not saying anything. The Lee Group was something they had built from scratch. She couldn't bear to watch it collapse. But Leonard was right. They couldn't force Sophie to marry someone she didn't love. It wouldn't be fair to her and would be too selfish.
"I get it," Maria conceded.
Leonard sighed, stood up, and was about to head to the study when his phone rang. He answered it, and after hearing what the other person said, he immediately replied, "I'll be right there."
After hanging up, he looked at Maria. "Something happened at the company. I need to go. Don't wait up for me tonight; I might not come back."
Before Maria could say anything, he hurried out. Worry flashed in Maria's eyes. She sat on the sofa for a long time before finally gathering the blind date profiles on the table. After hesitating for a while, she still didn't throw them away, thinking they might come in handy someday.
At dinner, Sophie came downstairs and didn't see Leonard, which surprised her. "Dad's not coming back for dinner?"
Maria nodded. "Yeah, something came up at the company."
Hearing this, Sophie pressed her lips together and didn't ask further. In the past two years, anything happening at the company was rarely good. This thought made Sophie's mood heavier.
In fact, Dwayne had been trying to contact her for the past few days, wanting to meet her again and apologize over a meal. Sophie wasn't stupid; she knew his intentions. But because he was good friends with Randy, she didn't plan to develop anything with him. Moreover, her first meeting with Dwayne wasn't particularly pleasant.
But now, if she could be with Dwayne, the Carr Group would surely help the Lee Group. With this thought, Sophie made a decision.
After dinner, Sophie opened the business card her friend had sent and added the contact. Dwayne quickly accepted.
After arranging to treat Sophie to lunch tomorrow as an apology, Dwayne immediately instructed his secretary to reserve a restaurant.
Dwayne put down his phone, his eyes narrowing slowly. The prey had taken the bait.
