Chapter 316 Just Feeling Guilt
Not seeing Zachary for ages, Demetrius was visibly pumped. "Awesome!"
Right after he spoke, Demetrius caught Seb's eyes on him.
'Dad doesn't seem too thrilled about Mr. Cook joining us for dinner. Why didn't he say something earlier?' Demetrius wondered.
But he really liked Zachary and wanted him to stay for dinner.
Zachary plopped down next to Sharon and glanced at Seb. "Sorry to crash the party."
Seb stayed cool. "If you knew it was crashing, Mr. Cook, maybe you shouldn't have tagged along with Ms. Roach in the first place, huh?"
Zachary caught the shade but just smiled. "I've had plenty of meals with Sharon and Demetrius before, and you know my deal with Sharon, right? Figured you wouldn't mind, Mr. Smith, would you?"
Seb's face darkened, and he kept quiet. If he said he minded, he'd look petty, but saying he didn't would be a lie. So, he just ignored Zachary, acting like he wasn't even there.
But while Seb tried to pretend Zachary was invisible, Zachary clearly didn't get the memo.
During dinner, Zachary kept adding food to Sharon's plate or feeding Demetrius, making sure everyone noticed him.
He'd crack jokes now and then, making Demetrius and Sharon laugh out loud.
The table was buzzing with laughter and joy, making Seb feel like the odd one out.
Seb endured the meal, and when it was time to leave, Zachary offered to drive them home.
Seb finally snapped and took Demetrius from Sharon's arms, saying coldly, "Mr. Cook, we're not heading the same way, so no need for you to drive us."
Zachary didn't even glance at him, his gentle eyes on Sharon as he said softly, "Sharon, be safe on your way back. Let me know when you get home."
"Okay."
The driver quickly brought the car around, and as they got in, Sharon was about to lower the window to say goodbye to Zachary, but Seb coldly told the driver to start the car.
Sharon was left speechless.
She turned to look at Seb, seeing his stern face, and felt puzzled.
Demetrius, having played all day without a nap, fell asleep on the way home.
Seb and Sharon stayed silent as they arrived at the villa. When the car stopped at the entrance, Sharon was about to carry Demetrius out, but Seb beat her to it and picked him up.
Seb carried Demetrius to his bedroom, tucked him in, and then looked at Sharon. "We need to talk."
Sharon looked up at him. "Mr. Smith, I'm really tired today and want to rest. Can we talk tomorrow?"
"No, it has to be today."
Seeing his eyes fixed on her, determined not to let it go, Sharon reluctantly agreed. "Fine, what do you wanna talk about?"
Seb said, "I hope that in the future, when you and I are spending time with Demetrius, no one else will be around."
Sharon frowned. "Zachary is not an outsider."
Seb looked at her coldly, speaking slowly and deliberately. "Maybe not to you, and you're used to having him around you and Demetrius, but I don't have a strong bond with Demetrius. I don't want another man taking Demetrius's attention when I'm trying to connect with him."
Hearing this, Sharon fell silent. For Seb, Zachary's presence could indeed affect his relationship with Demetrius.
After thinking it over, Sharon nodded. "Alright, I get it. Today was a one-off. I'll make sure it doesn't happen again."
Seeing her agree, Seb's expression softened a bit.
Then Seb added, "I've been digging into our past. It's on me for what happened to you and Demetrius. I'll do my best to make it right."
Sharon looked up, clearly not expecting Seb to say that.
Feeling awkward under her intense gaze, Seb looked away and said coldly, "Don't read too much into it. I'm just feeling guilty."
Sharon replied, "Don't worry, I won't. Whatever happened in the past is done. I won't have any wishful thinking or use Demetrius to cling to you."
Seb felt a surge of displeasure, and his voice grew colder. "That's for the best!" With that, he turned and left the bedroom.
As the bedroom door closed, the only sound left in the room was Demetrius's soft breathing.
Sharon pressed a hand to her restless heart, calming her chaotic thoughts, and went to the wardrobe to grab her pajamas for a shower.
The next morning, when Sharon and Demetrius woke up, Seb had already left for a business trip.
Dana brought breakfast and smiled. "Ms. Roach, Mr. Smith knows you like sandwiches. He specifically asked me to keep them warm for you this morning so you could eat them as soon as you got up."
Sharon looked at Dana in disbelief. That didn't sound like something Seb would say. But she didn't want to dwell on it. "Dana, thank you."
"It's ordered by Mr. Smith. I've never seen him be so considerate to a woman before!" Dana kept praising Seb.
Sharon smiled, took a sip of milk, and said softly, "Dana, actually, I have a boyfriend."
Hearing that, Dana froze for a moment, her eyes filled with disbelief and shock as she asked, "You have a boyfriend? Ms. Roach, how could you have a boyfriend?"
Sharon looked puzzled. "Why can't I have a boyfriend? Do I look like someone no one would pursue?"
Dana shook her head. "No, I mean... never mind."
She didn't understand young people's affairs. In Dana's mind, since Sharon had a child with Seb, they should be together.
But Dana also knew that young people's thinking was very different from her generation's, so she didn't push Sharon further.
After all, Dana was just a housekeeper, so she chose to remain silent.
After Dana left, Sharon finally breathed a sigh of relief and started eating breakfast.
Sharon knew Dana meant well, but she and Seb were impossible.
After breakfast, Sharon was about to go back to her room to read when Alex showed up.
"What are you doing here?" Sharon looked at him coldly, her eyes indifferent.
Alex didn't mind her coldness. He stepped forward and looked at her. "Sharon, I'm about to take over the Smith Group. I have the ability to protect you and Demetrius now. I hope you'll give me a chance to make it up to you."
Hearing this, Sharon found it laughable. Last night, Seb said he wanted to make it up to her, and now Alex was saying the same thing.
If they knew they would regret it one day, why did they do those things to hurt her in the first place?
"Alex, I've already made it clear to you before. I hope you won't disturb me again. Now, please leave immediately," she said, wondering what Seb had told the butler that got Alex inside.
"Sharon, Uncle Seb isn't right for you. Only we are truly meant to be together."
