Chapter 314 Keep up His Image
Demetrius's face lit up, his cheeks glowing with excitement.
After Seb left, he looked up at Sharon and shouted, "Mom, Dad said yes!"
Demetrius was usually a quiet kid, so Sharon rarely saw him this animated. She smiled, "Yeah, I heard."
For the next few days, Demetrius couldn't wait for Saturday to come.
Finally, Saturday rolled around, and Demetrius was up at the crack of dawn.
Sharon, being a light sleeper, woke up when Demetrius did and decided to get up too.
They both finished breakfast before Seb even made it downstairs.
Seeing Sharon and Demetrius waiting on the couch, especially with Demetrius looking so eager, Seb hurried through his breakfast.
They were out the door before eight.
In the car, Sharon asked, a bit worried, "Isn't it too early? Will the amusement park even be open?"
Seb glanced up from his papers, looking indifferent, "No, I rented out the whole park."
Sharon was momentarily speechless.
Seeing her reaction, Seb asked, "What's wrong?"
"Mr. Smith, don't you know that the fun of an amusement park is the crowd? What's the point of renting it out?"
Seb frowned, "What's fun about being in a crowd?"
Sharon shot back, "It's the crowd that makes it fun. Many attractions are meant to be enjoyed with others. You can't experience the joy alone."
"Are you sure?" Seb hated crowded places.
Sharon asked, "Mr. Smith, have you ever been to an amusement park?"
The car fell silent.
Seeing Seb's silence, Sharon guessed that in a family like the Smiths, Tyler and Sandra probably never had time to take him to an amusement park.
Sharon suddenly felt a bit sorry for him, not having a complete childhood.
Seb noticed Sharon's strange look, as if she felt a bit sorry for him.
Seb frowned and said coldly, "If the amusement park is as you say, I'm actually glad I never went."
Seeing the disdain in Seb's eyes, Sharon sighed inwardly.
She almost forgot that Seb didn't need anyone's pity.
Even though Seb disliked crowds, he still asked Demetrius if he wanted to play alone in the amusement park or with other kids. Demetrius, of course, chose the latter.
After a few minutes of thinking, Seb called Rufus, "Cancel the private booking."
Sharon was surprised. She didn't expect Seb to compromise for Demetrius.
It seemed he had changed a lot over the past five years.
If it were five years ago, based on what she knew of him, he would never have inconvenienced himself for someone else.
Sharon lowered her eyes, a complex emotion flashing through them.
They arrived at the amusement park around nine, and there were already lots of parents with kids at the entrance, bustling with activity.
As soon as Seb got out of the car and saw the crowd, his frown deepened.
He suddenly regretted listening to Sharon and Demetrius as he could already imagine how crowded the park would be.
Since Seb had contacted the amusement park staff in advance, they were led through the staff entrance as soon as they got out of the car.
Once inside the park, Demetrius let go of Sharon and Seb's hands and ran ahead excitedly.
Sharon quickly sped up to follow him, "Demetrius, be careful not to fall."
As the park got more crowded, Sharon held onto Demetrius to keep him from running around and bumping into people or tripping.
Suddenly, Demetrius pointed excitedly at a ride in the distance, "Mom, I want to go on that!"
Following his gaze, Sharon's face showed hesitation.
Demetrius wanted to go on the Swing Ride, but she had always hated those high-altitude attractions.
She turned to Seb, "Mr. Smith, I don't like high rides. Could you take Demetrius? There's a kid-friendly version."
Seb stayed silent. Before he could respond, Demetrius ran up to him, hugging his leg and shaking it, "Dad, I want to go! Please take me! Albert said his dad went with him lots of times last time they were here!"
Seeing the anticipation in Demetrius's eyes, Seb reluctantly nodded, "Okay, but just once."
"Okay, thank you, Dad!"
Demetrius grabbed Seb's hand and headed towards the Swing Ride line, not noticing Seb's slightly grim expression.
Sharon noticed and said, "Mr. Smith, if you're scared, you can say no."
Seb's face stiffened, then he said in a deep voice, "Who said I'm scared? I just find these rides boring."
Demetrius had just mentioned that Albert's dad went with him several times. If he refused, how could he keep up his image as a dad in Demetrius's eyes?
So, he had to go with Demetrius!
Seeing his stubbornness, Sharon didn't say more.
During the ten-minute wait in line, Seb stayed calm, showing no emotion.
Soon it was their turn. Before getting on, Demetrius asked Sharon to take pictures of them.
Seeing Demetrius's excitement and Seb's expression like he was facing doom, Sharon held back her laughter, "Okay, I'll take lots of pictures."
The Swing Ride Demetrius could go on had a smaller range, more like a pirate ship ride compared to the nearly 180-degree one next to it. But when Seb got off, his face was pale, and his legs were slightly trembling.
However, to keep up his image in front of Demetrius, Seb forced himself to stay calm.
Sharon handed him a bottle of cold water, "Are you okay?"
Seb took the water, opened it, and took a sip, finally suppressing the nauseous feeling inside.
"I'm fine, thanks," he said.
Seeing that Seb, although pale, seemed okay, Sharon finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Demetrius, still in high spirits, looked at Seb, "Dad, I want to go again."
Seb was unresponsive.
Seeing the veins on Seb's forehead twitching, Sharon spoke up before him, "Remember, your dad only agreed to go once, and there are many other rides we haven't tried yet. We can't spend too much time here."
Hearing this, Demetrius was a bit disappointed but didn't insist on going again.
"Mom, I remember you used to love the carousel. How about we go on that?" Demetrius suggested with a hopeful smile.
Just as Sharon was about to speak, a crowd surged forward, knocking down Demetrius and Sharon.
Sharon pulled Demetrius into her arms to protect him, but she fell straight to the ground.
Just as she was about to hit the ground, a strong hand caught her waist, holding her steady.
