Chapter 457 Ariana, are you crazy?
The cops were pretty thorough, making sure she was safe at the hotel before they took off.
Once inside the room, Ariana locked the door, drew the curtains, and finally felt a bit secure as she sat down at the foot of the bed. Her body was still trembling from adrenaline, her face as pale as a sheet.
After a while, she got up and headed to the bathroom for a shower. As the warm water cascaded over her, she made up her mind. She was going to sell that house.
Sure, it felt a bit selfish, but she knew it was the only way to break free from her family.
First thing the next morning, she called up a real estate agent and put the house on the market. Since it was in a prime spot downtown, there was a lot of interest.
In less than three days, the house sold for a cool $6 million. Seeing that huge sum hit her account, Ariana was overwhelmed. She knew she'd never make that kind of money as a pharmaceutical researcher.
She didn't waste any time. As soon as the money was in, she started prepping to apply to schools abroad, aiming for a PhD overseas.
But with her mind so set on leaving, she started slipping up at work, making mistake after mistake.
Sharon finally had enough and called her out in front of everyone in the lab, "Ariana, if you can't get it together, don't bother coming in anymore."
Ariana bit her lip and looked up. "Sharon, I know I'm not cut out for this anymore, and I've been holding everyone back. I'm sorry. I'll resign now. Thanks for everything."
Sharon's eyes widened in disbelief, and she glared at Ariana. "Say that again?"
Ariana had worked so hard to get here, enduring so much, and now she wanted to quit over a few harsh words?
Seeing the disappointment in Sharon's eyes, Ariana hesitated for a moment but then stood firm. "Sharon, I meant what I said. I don't need to repeat it."
"Come to my office!" With that, Sharon stormed off, radiating anger.
Jake grabbed Ariana's arm. "Ariana, are you nuts? You're quitting?"
Ariana shook him off, her voice cold, "It's none of your business."
Jake pressed, "Who else is gonna treat you this well if you leave?"
"This is my decision, so don't worry about it." With that, Ariana walked past him and left.
Standing at Sharon's office door, Ariana took a deep breath and pushed it open. "Sharon."
Sharon looked at her, expressionless. "Give me a reason."
Sharon was baffled by the sudden change that Ariana had been distracted and now wanted to quit.
Ariana said, "Sharon, I just want to explore the world, so I'm planning to leave Metropolis."
Sharon didn't buy it and stared her down. "Is this about Kirk?"
Ariana's hand clenched at her side, and after a moment, she replied, "No, it has nothing to do with him."
Sharon shot back, "He was just arrested, and now you're making mistakes and want to quit. How can I believe it has nothing to do with him?"
Ariana looked Sharon in the eye, serious and sincere, "Sharon, my resignation is my own decision. I don't owe you an explanation. Whether you believe it or not, I'm leaving."
