Chapter 45 If Worst Comes to Worst, I'll Just Quit This Job
Seeing the obvious displeasure in Alex's eyes, Paul spoke up, "Mr. Alex, Ms. Wright is traveling with Mr. Seb on this business trip, and I'm here to help her with her suitcase."
As he spoke, Paul reached out to take Sharon's suitcase.
However, before he could touch it, Alex's slender hand blocked his way. "She's employed by Medica Care International Pharmaceuticals. Uncle Seb is on a business trip. What's her reason for tagging along?"
Just the thought of Sharon being with Seb made a trace of hostility flash in Alex's eyes.
As a man, Alex was very aware that the way Seb looked at Sharon was far from simple.
Paul said, "The Silvercrest Group's testing team is on a business trip, and since the pharmaceutical factory Mr. Smith is visiting produces the herbs Ms. Wright needs for her experiments, she is arranged to go with him."
Alex let out a cold laugh. "If Uncle Seb needs people, I can transfer a few from the Smith Group for him."
Sharon frowned. "Alex, this is my job. Can you stop causing trouble?"
Seeing Sharon looking at him coldly, Alex found his heart sank.
Did Sharon even realize that Seb had other intentions toward her?
"In any case, you're not allowed to go on this business trip. If necessary, you can quit this job, and I'll arrange something else for you." Alex's domineering tone made Sharon's heart surge with anger.
She let out a cold laugh and said mockingly, "Not allowed? Are you my boss or the owner of Medica Care International Pharmaceuticals? What right do you have to forbid me from going on a business trip?"
With that, Sharon pushed Alex aside, grabbed her suitcase, and was about to leave.
Just as she reached the door, Alex caught up with her.
Before he could speak, Alex saw Seb standing by the car, and his face instantly turned dark.
Alex walked up to Seb. "Uncle Seb, did you deliberately arrange for Sharon to accompany you on this business trip?"
Seb frowned, his gaze turning icy. "If you're not thinking straight, go see a psychiatrist. Stop being paranoid and thinking everyone is as vile as you."
"If you need testing personnel, I can transfer some from the Smith Group for you." Upon hearing this, Seb's eyes filled with coldness, and his whole demeanor exuded a chilling aura.
He said, "Transfer people from the Smith Group? Do you think just because you're now the general manager of this group, you can do whatever you want?"
If Alex weren't his nephew, Seb would have wanted toget inside Alex's head to see if it was filled with garbage.
Under Seb's oppressive gaze, Alex suddenly felt a bit guilty. But thinking of Sharon, his eyes became resolute again. "I just don't want you and Sharon to be too close. After all, she is my wife. It's better to avoid suspicion."
Seeing Alex's guarded expression, Seb let out a cold laugh. "It seems you have too much free time. I'll talk to your grandfather and have your cousin go to the Smith Group in a few days to learn how to manage the company."
Upon hearing this, Alex's face turned extremely ugly, but before he could speak, Seb had already opened the car door and got in.
Alex's hand clenched involuntarily at his side, understanding that this was Seb's warning to him.
If he continued to prevent Sharon from going on the business trip, he might not be able to keep his position as the general manager of the Smith Group.
Would he have to watch Sharon and Seb spend time alone together?
While Alex was silent, Paul had already helped Sharon put her suitcase in the trunk.
Alex looked at Sharon, who was about to get in the car, his eyes dark and gloomy, but ultimately, he said nothing, watching her drive away.
With a dark expression, Alex watched the black Maybach disappear into the distance, filled with unwillingness and resentment.
Once he officially took over the Smith Group, he wouldn't have to fear Seb anymore.
At that time, he would make sure to repay all the humiliation he suffered today!
Inside the car.
Since getting in, Sharon could sense that Seb was in a bad mood. Although he was looking at documents, his stern profile was icy, exuding a cold aura that could freeze anyone.
She said, "Mr. Smith, I'm sorry about what happened this morning."
Seb turned his head and saw Sharon's guilty expression, his brows furrowing unconsciously. "Why are you apologizing?"
"I didn't handle my personal affairs well and had to trouble you to step in."
Seb's eyes darkened, and he said unhappily, "That was Alex's fault, not yours. You don't need to worry about it."
He couldn't fathom how the Smith family produced someone like Alex: a relentless cheat who still had the audacity to hassle Sharon.
A trace of surprise flashed in Sharon's eyes; she hadn't expected Seb to say that. But recalling how he had previously offered to introduce her to a divorce lawyer, Sharon wasn't too surprised.
It seemed that Seb wasn't as unreasonable as Alex had made him out to be.
When they arrived in Maple Valley, it was already past four in the afternoon.
The vice president of BioGenX Pharmaceuticals personally came to pick them up, showing their sincerity in wanting to cooperate with the Silvercrest Group.
The vice president's name Benjamin Nelson. He was in his forties, looked fatty , and had a kind smile.
He said, "Mr. Smith, welcome. Our president has an important meeting this afternoon and couldn't make it, so he sent me to pick you up. After a few hours of flight, you must be tired. I'll take you to the hotel to rest first. Tonight, our president will host a banquet at Whispering Pines to welcome you."
Seb smiled warmly, "Thank you, Mr. Nelson."
Benjamin said, "Mr. Smith, you're too kind. This way to the parking lot."
On the way to the hotel, Seb introduced Sharon and Paul to Benjamin. Knowing that Sharon was a testing personnel, Benjamin couldn't help but take another look at her.
Benjamin said, "I didn't expect Ms. Wright to be so young and yet so dedicated to her work."
Earlier, Benjamin had seen Sharon's beauty and assumed she was Seb's secretary, feeling a bit disdainful.
After all, Benjamin had seen many pretty women accompanying business partners, and without exception, they were all mistresses disguised as secretaries.
A secretary's job could be done by someone with no knowledge, but a testing personnel needed to be skilled with equipment and extracting active ingredients from herbs.
Moreover, whether they could secure a partnership with the Silvercrest Group heavily depended on the testing personnel.
Thinking of this, Benjamin's gaze at Sharon became more meaningful.
Sharon smiled gracefully. "Mr. Nelson, you're too kind."
Noticing Benjamin's gaze lingering on Sharon, Seb furrowed his browslightly.
Paul, sensing Seb's displeasure, turned to Benjamin and said, "Mr. Nelson, Mr. Smith is very interested in the cultivation of your herbs. Could you tell us more about it?"
His words successfully diverted Benjamin's attention, and Benjamin turned to chat with Seb.
Feeling the cold atmosphere dissipate a bit, Paul secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
His intuition had been correct.
But why Seb was so concerned about Sharon? Whether it was because she was Alex's wife or for another reason?
Paul didn't dare to speculate.
After arriving at the hotel, Benjamin escorted them upstairs before leaving.
Since there were only three of them on this trip and Sharon was the only woman, they booked three rooms.
Back in her room, Sharon put down her luggage and was about to rest when her phone rang.
