Chapter 557 I'll Give You Anything, Even My Life

Hearing this, Sharon finally felt relieved. "That's good."

"Let's eat."

"Okay." Sharon was about to grab some food when her phone rang.

Seeing it was Alton, her eyes flickered. She put down her utensils and answered the call.

As soon as the call connected, Alton's voice came through. "Sharon, your mom's flight lands in two hours. I'm planning to pick her up. Wanna come with me?"

Sharon's grip on the phone tightened, and her breathing became heavier. After a few seconds, she replied, "No, I can't tonight. Anything else?"

"Will you have time tomorrow? We can meet up so you can see her. She really wants to see you."

"We'll see about tomorrow." With that, Sharon quickly hung up the phone.

Seeing her distressed expression, Seb held her hand and softly reassured her, "It's okay. If you don't want to see her, you don't have to."

Sharon took a deep breath and shook her head. "No, I need to see her. I'm just not ready yet."

Dealing with Jesse was already a challenge for Seb. If the Stoll family also targeted Silvercrest Group, it would be even harder for him.

She had to meet them and figure out their true intentions.

"Whatever you decide, I'll support you."

After dinner, Seb went to his study to work. Sharon intended to play with Demetrius, but she was distracted by the phone call. Demetrius had to call her name multiple times before she responded.

Demetrius sighed, "Mom, if you're tired, you should go rest. I can play by myself."

Sharon snapped out of her thoughts and looked at Demetrius apologetically. "I'm sorry, Demetrius. I'll play with you tomorrow."

"Okay, Mom. Go rest."

Upstairs, Sharon took a shower and got ready for bed, but she couldn't sleep. She sat up and took out her phone to read a book.

After a while, Alton sent her a photo.

Sharon opened it. It was a picture of Carolyn that Alton had taken when he picked her up.

In the photo, Carolyn wore a mink coat over a V-neck dress. Her fair skin and large sunglasses covered most of her face, making her look trendy and stylish, like she was in her thirties.

This image was far from the gentle and simple mother Sharon remembered.

Alton's voice message followed.

"Sharon, I picked up your mom. She's upset you didn't come. She wants to see you tomorrow. Let me know."

Sharon gripped her phone tightly and replied after a long pause.

[Got it. I'm busy in the morning. Arrange a meeting place for the afternoon.]

Despite not seeing her mother for years, Sharon felt no anticipation.

After all, this person was no longer the mother who loved her unconditionally.

Meanwhile, Carolyn questioned Alton as soon as she got in the car. "You've been in Metropolis for so long and couldn't bring her back. What are you doing?"

Alton glanced at Carolyn and said, "Carolyn, she's a person, your daughter, not an object. I can't just take her without asking if she wants to go."

"Her wishes don't matter. What matters is that I need her in Stellaria."

Carolyn had been in a position of power for so long, she was used to giving orders and having others obey. She didn't care about others' feelings.

"If you force her, she'll only resist more. Besides, you haven't seen her in years. She still has feelings about that."

Carolyn's face darkened. "What feelings? If it weren't for me, she wouldn't exist. She should be grateful I brought her into this world!"

Alton frowned. "If you want her to go to Stellaria, you need to control your temper. She's not like Gareth and Daisy, who grew up with you."

"Got it. We'll meet tomorrow."

After divorcing Robert and moving abroad, Carolyn occasionally thought of Sharon in the first year. But as she got busier managing the company and had Gareth and Daisy, she thought of Sharon less and less, eventually almost forgetting her.

If she didn't need Sharon to inherit the Stoll family, she might never have thought of her again.

Carolyn knew she owed Sharon. But she had come so far and had obedient Gareth and Daisy. She had no feelings left for Sharon. To her, Sharon was just a mistake from her youth.

Looking out at the night, she said, "I never thought I'd come back here."

Alton glanced at her but said nothing.

After dropping Carolyn at the hotel, Alton finally spoke. "Carolyn, just so you know, Sharon is resistant to you. Tomorrow's meeting might not go well. Be prepared."

Carolyn waved dismissively. "Got it. Just pick me up on time. I'm busy, so let's meet near the hotel."

She turned and walked into the hotel.

Watching her brisk departure, Alton sighed and drove away.

The next morning, Sharon had just dropped Demetrius at preschool when Alton called.

"Sharon, do you have time now? I'd like to meet first."

Sharon switched the phone to her left hand and waved to Demetrius. "If it's not urgent, let's meet in the afternoon."

"Your mom might be a bit overbearing. If she says anything upsetting, please try to be patient."

Sharon smiled. He was giving her a heads-up. "Don't worry, I understand."

"Okay, see you at two."

"Alright."

Hanging up, Sharon got back in her car and drove home.

At the underground parking garage of Silvercrest Group

Seb had just gotten out of his car when a group of people surrounded him.

"Mr. Smith, please give us another chance. We know we were wrong."

"Yes, Mr. Smith, we've known each other for so long. You can't just watch our companies go bankrupt."

"We were wrong before. We'll do anything if you forgive us!"

Seb's face remained expressionless. "When Silvercrest Group was in trouble, I asked for your help, but none of you were willing. Now you want me to save you. How can I trust you won't betray me again?"

Hearing this, they knew there was hope and felt a glimmer of expectation.

"Mr. Smith, tell us what you want. If you save my company, I'll give you anything, even my life!"
