Chapter 22 Sophie's Boyfriend

"Mr. Smith, if Mrs. Sharon Smith finds out..." Joseph said, a bit worried.

"Just keep it discreet. No one can know about this, especially Sharon," Alex said helplessly.

If Sharon found out that Ava kept the baby, she would be even more determined to divorce him. Thinking about this made Alex feel restless.

"Okay, I understand." Joseph replied.

After hanging up the phone, Joseph couldn't help but sigh. Alex's actions were clearly pushing Sharon to the brink. Alex's affair was already unforgivable, and now he was planning to support Ava on the side, which would only hasten the breakdown of his marriage.

However, Joseph was just a secretary and could only follow orders.

In the following days, Irene took a leave of absence from the company, and Sharon officially moved into the lab to start developing a new drug.

Before long, it was the weekend.

When Sharon arrived at the restaurant, she found Sophie already waiting for her.

"Sharon, you made it! I just heard some news and couldn't wait to tell you," Sophie said excitedly.

Sharon sat down across from her, placed her bag on the chair next to her, and raised an eyebrow, asking, "What news?"

"I heard that Irene somehow provoked Alex, and he slapped her in a private room, leaving her face swollen," Sophie said.

Sharon was stunned, her action of pouring water halted, and she looked up at Sophie. "Where did you hear that from?"

"A friend of mine in the social circle who was at the bar that night saw it happen," Sophie explained.

Sharon fell silent, understanding that Alex must have investigated Irene's attack on her and decided to teach Irene a lesson. This would only make Irene hate her more, making her life at the company even more difficult.

"Sharon?" Sophie called out a few times, finally catching her attention.

Sharon snapped back to reality and quickly asked, "Yeah?"

Sophie shook her head helplessly. "I was going to ask you what you were thinking about. I've called you several times, but you were lost in thought."

"It's nothing. Maybe I didn't sleep well last night," Sharon shook her head. "By the way, why did you suddenly ask me out for shopping today?"

Sophie usually hated getting up early on weekends, so it was surprising that she had asked Sharon out.

Sophie's cheeks turned slightly red. "I wanted to pick out a birthday gift for my boyfriend, so I asked you to come along for some advice."

Seeing her shy and expectant expression, Sharon couldn't help but laugh. "Who was the one claiming  she'd never fall in love?"

"That was before I met him. After meeting him, I realized every day is full of anticipation, and I get to greet him with a 'good morning' when I wake up." Sophie's face was full of tenderness.

Sharon felt a bit squirmish. "Okay, enough with the mushiness. If you keep this up, I might just bail on you for real."

"Okay, I'll zip it up," Sophie said with a smile.

Sophie noticed the hidden sadness behind Sharon's smile and felt a pang of sympathy. She had asked Sharon out because she was worried Sharon would be too depressed staying at home alone. After all, Sharon had just found out about Alex's affair not long ago. Being alone, she would likely overthink and even cry in secret.

In front of others, Sharon always pretended to be calm, and Sophie didn't want to bring up Alex's affair to make Sharon sad. Sophie just hoped that Sharon could move on from this relationship and embrace a new life.

After finishing their meal, they headed straight to the mall.

As soon as they walked into a men's clothing store, Sophie was immediately drawn to a black suit displayed in the center.

"Could you please show me that suit?" Sophie asked.

"Wrap up that suit for me!" Another voice came through.

Two voices spoke almost simultaneously. Sophie turned around and saw a tall woman in a red spaghetti-strap dress with glossy skin and big wavy hair pointing at the suit she had chosen.

Noticing Sophie's gaze, Emily Young smiled slightly. "Miss, I want to buy this suit for my boyfriend. We're about to meet. Could you let me have it?"

Sophie felt a bit reluctant, but Emily's tone was polite enough, so she hesitated. The sales associate interjected, "Ms. Lee, this suit is the only one we have in the store, and as a VIP customer, you have the priority to purchase it."

Hearing this, Emily's expression immediately tightened. There was only one suit, and she had to buy it.

"What do you mean by that? Are you discriminating?" Emily asked coldly.

The sales associate remained unfazed, maintaining a standard smile. "Miss, VIP customers have priority purchasing rights. You might want to explore other styles. We have many other nice suits..."

Before she could finish, Emily interrupted, "The other styles in the store are too low-class. I wouldn't take them even if they were free. This is the only one that satisfies me. How can I become a VIP at your store?"

The sales associate replied, "If you shop with us more than twelve times in a year, you can become a VIP."

Emily's face immediately turned cold, her tone icy. "Are you deliberately making things difficult for me?"

"No, you can check the conditions for becoming a VIP customer yourself," the sales associate replied.

Emily snorted, "Wait, I'm going to make a call. I must have this suit today."

She dialed a number and spoke sweetly, "Daniel, I just found a suit I want to buy for your birthday, but someone here is giving me a hard time, saying I need to be a VIP customer to purchase it."

The person on the other end seemed to ask for her location, and Emily gave the address. She then turned back to the sales associate. "My boyfriend is on his way."

Witnessing her arrogant attitude, Sophie couldn't help but roll her eyes. She hadn't expected to encounter someone so self-important. Initially, she had planned to let the other woman have the suit, but now she was determined not to.

"Please wrap up the suit. I pay for it now," Sophie said to the sales associate, handing over her card.

The sales associate took the card and was about to get the suit when Emily blocked her. "My boyfriend is on his way. Until he gets here, no one can touch that suit."

Sophie was momentarily at a loss, raising an eyebrow. "Miss, just be reasonable. What you're saying doesn't justify wasting our time here. Why don't you step aside?"

Emily looked at her coldly, full of disdain. "Do you know who my boyfriend is? He's Daniel Thomas, the CEO of BioTech Innovations Group. If you know what's good for you, you'll let me have this suit. Otherwise, I won't let you off."

Before she could finish, Sharon suddenly turned to look at Sophie, her heart pounding. Sharon thought, 'Could I have remembered wrong? Sophie works at BioTech Innovations Group, and Emily's boyfriend is Daniel?'
