Chapter 89 Would You Never Fall in Love with Uncle?
Alex tore his gaze away and muttered, "Let's go."
As they turned, Ava let out a barely audible sigh of relief.
While Ava was getting checked, Alex tried calling Sharon.
After several attempts with no answer, Alex's patience ran out. He decided to stop calling.
After paying the fees and getting her injection, Sharon was about to leave when she got a call from the police station, asking her to give a statement.
Meanwhile, Rebecca found out that Tom's plan had failed.
Her subordinate looked worried. "Miss Walker, do you think Tom will betray us?"
Rebecca sneered. "He wouldn't dare unless he wants his family destroyed."
'Tom, that idiot. I had planned everything for him, but he still messed it up. Useless.'
Thinking of this, Rebecca's face darkened.
She needed a new plan to deal with Sharon.
By the time Sharon left the police station, it was already evening.
She drove straight home. Just as she got out of the car, Alex's car pulled up.
Sharon paused, ready to go inside, but Alex got out, fuming.
"I called you this afternoon. Why didn't you pick up?" As Alex spoke, he noticed the swelling on Sharon's face. His eyes widened, and he quickly walked up to her.
"Who hit you?"
It wasn't just her face; seeing Sharon's hand wrapped in bandages, Alex's expression darkened even more.
"It's nothing. Just a small matter."
Sharon didn't want to say more and lowered her head, continuing to walk inside.
Alex grabbed her wrist. "Are you going to tell me, or should I investigate? If I investigate, Uncle Seb might get involved."
Hearing the threat, Sharon shook off his hand. "Alex, are you serious? Do you think this is amusing?"
Alex responded, "Of course it's amusing. At least it shows you care about Uncle Seb more than you claim."
Alex's cold gaze fell on Sharon's face, trying to find a hint of guilt, but he found none.
"I just don't want innocent people dragged into our mess."
"Innocent?"
Alex thought this was the biggest joke he'd heard all day. "Don't tell me you haven't noticed how he feels about you!"
Sharon pursed her lips, not saying a word, looking at Alex with indifference.
"You keep holding onto me and Seb, but what about you? How decent are you? Didn't you accompany Ava to her prenatal checkup today?"
Alex was taken aback for a moment. "So it was you in the hospital lobby today!"
As he spoke, he finally noticed that Sharon was wearing the same clothes as the person he saw in the hospital lobby.
"Yes, it was me. So what right do you have to question me?"
A wave of guilt surged in Alex's heart, but it quickly turned cold again due to Sharon's indifferent attitude.
"You clearly don't care about me. Otherwise, you wouldn't have ignored me at the hospital!"
Sharon found it somewhat amusing.
"And what about you? Do you care about me? You saw I was injured, yet your first reaction wasn't to find out why but to threaten me into telling you everything with Seb. Alex, what else can you do but go crazy?"
Sharon looked up at him slightly, her eyes filled with coldness and disappointment.
Alex felt as if something had pricked his heart, and his hand at his side clenched slightly.
"Sharon, it's because you won't tell me the truth that I have to force you to speak."
Sharon sneered. "Stop making excuses for your actions. It only makes you look disgusting."
With that, she turned and walked inside.
Alex stood there, not stopping her, but his face was visibly grim.
It wasn't until Sharon disappeared out of sight that he took out his phone and called Joseph.
"Find out what happened to Sharon at Silvercrest Group today!"
"Yes, Mr. Smith. By the way, I have results for what you asked me to investigate this morning. After the Gonzalez group went bankrupt, Ethan couldn't bear the huge debt and jumped to his death."
"Ethan's son, Irvin Gonzalez, has been in hiding. Recently, he had a finger cut off by debt collectors who threatened to kill him if he didn't pay up. Desperate, he turned to robbery and got caught."
A mocking smile crept onto Alex's face. "How pitiful. He must hate the person who ruined his family and life."
Joseph shivered at Alex's calm tone. "Mr. Smith, do you want me to get him out?"
"Of course. I want to see him within three days."
Joseph hesitated, wanting to advise against it, but knowing Alex wouldn't listen, he kept quiet.
After hanging up, Joseph sighed, contemplating whether he should find a new job soon. If Alex's actions were discovered, he'd be doomed too.
Sharon stayed in her room until dinner. After eating in silence, she went back upstairs.
Alex watched her leave, his expression dark.
As the housekeeper cleaned up, she said, "Mr. Smith, giving the cold shoulder is the worst for relationships. Women need to be coaxed."
Alex frowned, irritated. "Yeah, I know."
It wasn't that he didn't want to coax Sharon; she just didn't give him a chance. Plus, he still didn't know what had happened today. Even if he wanted to, he didn't know how.
Seeing Alex's grim face, the housekeeper knew he hadn't listened. But it wasn't her place to meddle. She sighed and returned to the kitchen.
Back in his study, Alex tried to read some documents, but his mind was filled with images of Sharon's swollen face and bandaged hand.
He called the housekeeper over and asked her to bring some anti-inflammatory ointment upstairs.
The housekeeper smiled, "Mr. Smith, it would be more effective if you delivered the ointment yourself."
Just as Alex was about to speak, his phone vibrated.
After answering, whatever was said on the other end made Alex's face darken, his entire demeanor exuding a terrifying aura.
When the other side finished speaking, Alex replied, "If he can't behave himself, then there's no need to keep him around."
After hanging up, he looked at the housekeeper. "Get me the anti-inflammatory ointment. I'll go check on her."
Alex thought about how Sharon had almost been assaulted today while he was with Ava at her prenatal checkup. When Sharon saw him at the hospital, she must have been very disappointed. The more he thought about it, the guiltier Alex felt.
With the ointment in hand, Alex went upstairs and stood at Sharon's bedroom door, hesitating whether to knock.
Inside, Sharon was holding her phone, considering whether to call Seb to thank him. Just as she made up her mind to dial, there was a knock on the door.
Sharon put down her phone, not noticing that her finger had accidentally pressed the call button. She got up and walked to the door. Upon seeing Alex, she immediately tried to close it, but Alex quickly wedged his foot in.
"Sharon, I'm sorry about today. I went too far."
Seeing Alex's guilty expression, Sharon remained indifferent. "What? You don't suspect anything between me and Uncle Seb anymore?"
She didn't notice that the call had already connected. Seb, about to speak, heard their conversation and his eyes darkened instantly.
"I know you don't like Uncle Seb, but he's better than me. I'm afraid you'll develop feelings for him."
Sharon remained silent. She indeed had feelings for Seb, but she couldn't admit it. However, she knew that her feelings for Seb could never be openly acknowledged.
Lowering her eyes to hide her disappointment, Sharon said slowly, "Since you like being paranoid so much, why don't you just put a monitor on me? That way, you'll know exactly who I see and what I say."
Alex took her hand and explained softly, "I know I was wrong. I promise I won't doubt you and Uncle Seb anymore, okay?"
Sharon sneered. Even Alex probably didn't believe his own words. The next time something happened, Alex would still think she and Seb were involved. But she didn't want to argue with Alex anymore.
"Fine. If you have nothing else, please leave. I need to rest."
Alex didn't move, his eyes fixed on Sharon. He said slowly, "Sharon, you really will never fall in love with Uncle Seb, right?"
