Chapter 38 The Recording

Irene had vented her frustrations about Sharon on her personal account a few times before deciding to log off and get some rest. when suddenly a message popped up on Twitter. Irene's expression changed, and she quickly opened Twitter to find that an audio clip posted by Sharon had become a trending topic.

She hurriedly clicked on it and found it was a recording of Eugene talking to Sharon.

Irene gritted her teeth as she saw that the comment section was filled with people condemning Eugene and the account that had posted the video earlier.

[Oh my God, I didn't expect the reason he knelt was because his daughter almost disfigured Sharon. Sharon didn't make him kneel, but he did it himself. The person who posted that video earlier is really shameless!]

[I apologize to Sharon. My dad is also a migrant worker, so I followed the crowd without knowing the full story. I'm sorry.]

"Besides the person who posted that video, the one who should be condemned more is the colleague who tried to disfigure Sharon and the person who filmed the video. It's obvious they had ulterior motives. It must be someone close to Sharon, probably a colleague.]

[Damn, it's terrifying to work with someone who's always watching you from behind.]

Seeing these comments, Irene was so angry she almost crushed her phone screen. She hadn't expected Sharon to be wary of Eugene from the start. Now, not only had Sharon's reputation not been completely ruined, but she herself might also get implicated.

Thinking of this, she quickly contacted the advertising company that had posted the video earlier, asking them to delete it. However, the reply she got was that the account had been frozen and couldn't be logged into.

Irene's heart sank. She thought, 'This is too much of a coincidence. Sharon has just uploaded the recording, and now the account has issues. Could it be that Alex has taken action? If they trace it back to me, I'll be finished.'

The more Irene thought about it, the more panicked she became. She hurriedly got up to find Ted in the study; only he could save her.

After hearing Irene's account, Ted slapped her hard across the face. "You idiot! Are you trying to get me killed?" He had warned Irene before not to go against Sharon, but she hadn't listened and had secretly caused such a mess.

Irene ignored the burning pain on her face and immediately apologized to Ted, "Dad, only you can help me. I know I was wrong. I promise I won't go against Sharon ever again. Please help me one more time."

Seeing Irene crying so sadly, Ted felt annoyed. If she weren't his only daughter, he wouldn't bother getting involved. "Get out!"

"Dad."

Ted warned, "If you don't leave now, you'll have to solve this yourself!"

Having gotten the promise she wanted, Irene quickly got up and left the study. But she didn't go back to the bedroom; instead, she went straight to the kitchen. Ted was emotional at the moment, so she decided to make some soup and use the excuse of bringing it to him to ask if the matter had been resolved.

In less than half an hour, Irene was at the study door with a bowl of soup.

The door was ajar, and just as she was about to knock, she heard Ted's low voice coming from inside, "David, don't forget that if it weren't for what I did for you back then, the Smith Group wouldn't be where it is today."

Irene's steps paused slightly, and a look of confusion flashed in her eyes. Instinctively, an incident from six years ago involving Robert Pharmaceuticals came to her mind.

After that incident, Robert Pharmaceuticals went bankrupt in less than a month. Robert was hospitalized due to a heart attack, and Ted left for another company, where he was promoted to an executive position.

David whom Ted mentioned was Alex's father. Over the years, she had never seen Ted and David interact; logically, they shouldn't know each other.

Irene's grip on the tray tightened slightly, and her heartbeat quickened involuntarily. Could there be some hidden secret behind that incident years ago?

Irene leaned closer to the door to listen more carefully, but her movement was too forceful, and the study door swung open.

Hearing the noise, Ted quickly hung up the phone.

The moment the door opened, Irene met Ted's icy gaze. His eyes were so cold they seemed murderous. She couldn't help but shiver. "Dad."

Seeing it was her, Ted put away the murderous look in his eyes, but his expression remained harsh. "When did you get here?"

His gaze was piercing. Irene struggled to calm herself and said in a low voice, "Just now. I brought you some chicken soup." As she spoke, she tried to suppress her unease and approached the desk.

Ted continued to stare at her coldly without responding. It wasn't until she set down the chicken soup that Ted slowly said, "I'm in the process of handling the mess you made. It should be resolved in the next couple of days."

A look of joy flashed in Irene's eyes. "Thank you, Dad!"

Ted warned, "Don't celebrate too soon. If this happens again, I won't help you."

Irene replied, "Understood. I'll go back to my room to rest now. You should get some sleep too, Dad."

Irene turned to leave, but Ted suddenly spoke harshly, "Irene, you'd better not have heard anything you shouldn't have. Otherwise, don't blame me for being ruthless."

Hearing the warning in his words, Irene couldn't help but bite her lip and look back at him with a puzzled expression. "Dad, what do you mean by things I shouldn't have heard?"

Ted stared at her coldly. Seeing her genuinely confused expression, he finally let go of his doubts. "It's best if you don't understand. Go rest."

It wasn't until she returned to her bedroom and locked the door that Irene realized she was drenched in cold sweat. She could clearly feel Ted's anger towards her earlier; he had never looked at her with such a cold gaze. But this only made her more certain that what Ted mentioned must be related to the incident with Robert Pharmaceuticals years ago.

However, she didn't dare to investigate further; the risk was too great for her. Taking a deep breath, she decided to bury this matter deep in her heart and never reveal a word of it.

Alex had been waiting for over an hour, but Sharon still hadn't contacted him, and he was gradually losing patience. He called Joseph and asked in a deep voice, "Has Sharon contacted you to take down the video?"

After a moment of silence, Joseph replied, "Mr. Smith, Mrs. Smith posted the recording of her and Eugene online half an hour ago, turning the public opinion around. She probably doesn't need our help anymore."

Joseph thought about how Alex had said he would wait for Sharon to come to him before stepping in to handle the situation. He wondered how bad Alex's expression would be now.

Alex asked, "Why didn't you tell me about this right away?"

Joseph replied, "I apologize, Mr. Smith. That was my bad."

The key issue was that he hadn't anticipated Alex not keeping up with the changes in online public opinion.

Alex said, "You're losing your full attendance bonus for this month. If this happens again, you'll be docked a week's pay."

After coldly saying this, Alex hung up the phone. Thinking about how Sharon preferred to handle things herself rather than ask for his help, Alex felt a wave of frustration and immediately dialed Sharon's number.
