Chapter 238 Suspecting Ava

Spotting Alex, Sharon's eyes flashed with caution. She spun around and headed straight to the security office to report him.

The guards wasted no time and rushed to her building, catching Alex lurking around. They booted him out of the community pronto.

Alex, looking all scruffy, saw Sharon in the security office. His face twisted with anger.

He stomped to the entrance and barked, "Sharon, get out here! I need to talk to you!"

With four or five guards around, Sharon wasn't scared. She stepped out but kept a good ten feet between them.

One inside, one outside.

"What do you want?"

Sharon didn't want to deal with Alex but also didn't want him bugging her every day.

Alex, teeth clenched, hissed, "Did you fake that infertility report? Did you mess with it 'cause you didn't want my kid?"

His tone was dripping with accusation, and Sharon found it kinda funny.

"Why would you think that?"

"If it wasn't fake, how come you didn't get pregnant in our three years of marriage but got knocked up by Seb right after our divorce?"

Sharon suddenly realized she got pregnant with Seb after just one time, but with Alex, nothing for three years.

If she was pregnant now, she couldn't be infertile. Maybe the issue was with Alex.

Seeing Sharon's look of pity, Alex's eyes flared with anger. "What's that look for? Did you secretly take birth control pills all those years?"

Sharon raised an eyebrow. "Alex, I never took birth control pills. Didn't get pregnant in three years. Ever think it might be you? Maybe you should get checked."

"You!"

Alex's face went pale with rage, feeling his manhood was being questioned. He thought, 'No way I'm infertile! Sharon must've taken pills to avoid having my kid!'

"I don't believe a word you're saying!"

"If you don't believe me, why are you here? To embarrass yourself?"

Sharon's mocking tone hit Alex like a punch, almost driving him nuts.

"I'll get to the bottom of this. You better not have taken those pills."

Sharon rolled her eyes. "Even if I did, so what? We're divorced. Gonna sue me? I'm done talking. Get lost and don't show your face again. You make me sick!"

With that, Sharon turned and walked away.

Alex glared at her back, fists clenched, eyes burning with rage.

If Sharon hadn't taken those pills, they might've had a kid, and maybe they wouldn't have split. Even if she hated him, she'd have stayed for the kid.

The more he thought about it, the more he hated it! But Sharon's words planted a seed of doubt in his mind, 'Could it be me with the problem?'

"No way! No freakin' way I'm the one with the problem! If I'm infertile, then what's the point of everything I've been doing?" Alex thought, panic creeping in.

He stood there for what felt like forever before finally turning to leave.

On the drive back, Alex couldn't shake the thought. He grabbed his phone and called Joseph.

"Joseph, set up a check-up for me."

Joseph sounded worried. "Mr. Smith, are you feeling okay?"

"I said set it up. Stop asking questions," Alex snapped and hung up.

His mood was in the gutter, his mind racing with the possibility that it might be true.

He pulled over, took a deep breath, and tried to calm down.

'A check-up will clear this up. No way I'm infertile. And Ava wouldn't lie to me!' he thought.

Thinking of Ava, his eyes darkened, and he drove straight to her place.

"Alex, what brings you here? Grabbed a bite yet?" Ava asked, her eyes lighting up as she let him in.

Alex walked into the living room, his cold gaze fixed on her.

Ava felt a chill and her smile faltered. "Alex, what's wrong? Why are you looking at me like that? It's creepy."

"Nothing, just realized I haven't really looked at you," Alex said, his tone even.

Ava blushed and looked down shyly. "Why are you saying sweet things all of a sudden? You're making me blush."

She was secretly thrilled. Alex's attitude was getting better. Once she had his kid, he'd definitely fall for her.

"Do you still have the report from your last prenatal check-up?" Alex asked.

Ava was stunned and looked up at him.

Alex sat on the sofa, looking calm as ever.

But Ava had a bad feeling. She looked at him, trying to figure him out.

"Why do you want to see that all of a sudden?"

"Just want to see it. It's my kid too," Alex said.

Ava couldn't read his face. She forced a smile. "It's in the bedroom. I'll get it."

As she turned, her smile vanished, replaced by a blank look.

She felt Alex might be suspecting something. He'd always been indifferent to her check-ups, only going when she nagged him.

'Why does he suddenly care about the report?' she wondered.

In the bedroom, Ava grabbed the report from the drawer.

When she turned around, she was startled and dropped the report.

"Alex, you scared me! Why are you so sneaky?" she said, clutching her chest.

"Did I scare you?" Alex asked, expressionless.

"Of course! You just appeared out of nowhere."

Ava slowly picked up the scattered reports and handed them to Alex.

"Here, these are all the check-up reports."
