Chapter 249 The Death of Ava

Before he could even get the words out, Paul clammed up real quick when he saw Seb's icy, killer stare.

Seb was standing by the elevator, lips pressed tight, face like a stone, but the vibe he was giving off? Yeah, no one wanted to get close.

On the way to the car crash, Seb was dead silent, lost in his own head.

When Seb got to the scene, the cops had already roped off the area.

"Stop the car!"

As soon as the car stopped, Seb jumped out and made a beeline for the burnt-out wreck.

Before he could cross the police tape, a cop stopped him.

"Sir, you can't get in there. It's not safe!"

Seb just ignored him and kept walking. The cop tried to stop him again but got yanked aside by someone nearby.

"Are you nuts? Do you even know who that is?"

The cop frowned, about to say something, when the officer in charge walked up to Seb.

"Mr. Smith, what brings you here?"

Seb didn't even look at him; his eyes were glued to the wreck. He asked in a low voice, "Have you confirmed if the driver was in the accident?"

After a moment, the officer replied quietly, "We haven't found any remains yet, but our techs are still checking. It's not looking good, Mr. Smith. Do you know the car owner?"

Seb swayed, and Paul quickly grabbed him but kept his mouth shut.

"What about the cause of the accident? Any leads?"

"Not yet, Mr. Smith. I've got other things to handle, so I'll get back to it. You should head back. I'll update you as soon as we know more."

With that, the officer hurried off to join his colleagues.

Seeing Seb's bloodshot eyes locked on the charred car, Paul sighed and said softly, "Mr. Smith, staying here won't help. Let's go back."

Seb didn't say a word and turned to head back to the car.

Once inside, he coldly told Paul, "Find out exactly what happened."

"Yes, Mr. Smith. Are we heading back to the office now?"

Seb gave a slight nod.

As the car drove off, Seb's icy gaze lingered on the scene, his eyes dark and intense.

'Since Sharon's body isn't found and there are no remains at the scene, it's likely she wasn't in the car when it blew up,' Seb thought, his jaw clenching.

'If this was on purpose, they're gonna pay for the rest of their lives!' he cursed to himself.

Following Grace's orders, Ava dropped Sharon off at the spot and handed over the truck. Then she changed clothes and grabbed a cab to pick up Walter, Thalia, and Theodore.

On the way, she was thinking about her next move, 'Staying in Metropolis is a no-go. Alex will never let me go, so I gotta bounce.'

Even though Alex had frozen her accounts, she had turned all the jewelry and gifts he gave her into cash, which she had stashed with Walter and Thalia. Roughly, it was about ten million bucks, enough to get by.

Once she picked up her family, they were gonna leave the country ASAP.

Ava burst through the door, all excited to see Walter, Thalia, and Theodore, but the room was empty.

Her face fell, and she spun around to Felipe Fernandez, who had brought her there, snapping, "Where's my family?"

Felipe dropped the act and showed his true colors.

"Ms. Kim, your family bailed when they found out Alex ditched you. They even got Miss Hall to help them buy tickets outta here."

"What did you just say?"

Ava's face twisted with disbelief and rage. 'Grace betrayed me!' she screamed inside.

She whipped out her phone and dialed Grace's number, yelling, "Grace, you bitch! How dare you screw me over? You won't get away with this!"

Grace sneered, "You think I'll give you another shot? Ava, you dug your own grave by trying to use what you know against me."

With that, she hung up.

Ava was fuming and tried to call back, but then she felt a sharp pain at the back of her head.

Feeling something wet, she touched it and saw her hand covered in blood.

Panic set in. She tried to run, but Felipe grabbed her hair and yanked her back, throwing her to the ground.

The door slammed shut, and Ava's body shook uncontrollably.

Overwhelmed by fear, she ignored the pain and backed away, terrified, as Felipe came closer.

"Don't come any closer! Please, let me go! I have money, ten million dollars. Let me go, and it's all yours, okay?"

Felipe stayed calm, the hammer in his hand dripping with blood, looking terrifying.

"Don't come any closer!"

Her screams echoed, then faded into a chilling silence. Felipe tossed the hammer aside and called Grace to report.

But Felipe didn't notice that while his back was turned, Ava's fingers weakly slid across her phone, actually sending a message.

Soon, her body twitched and then went completely still.

Following Grace's orders, Felipe stuffed Ava and her belongings into a suitcase and quickly left.

Meanwhile, Grace hummed a tune, opened a bottle of red wine, and smiled.

With Ava out of the picture, she could now deal with Sharon and frame Victor for Sharon's death. Then, nothing would stand in the way of her and Seb being together.

Grace's plan had gone off without a hitch, thanks to overhearing Victor's scheme to kidnap Sharon and pretend to rescue her to patch things up with Seb. Otherwise, she wouldn't have moved so fast.

But in the end, as long as she got what she wanted, it didn't matter.

When Alex got Ava's message, he was in a meeting. It wasn't until the meeting ended that he saw the unread message.

He frowned and deleted it.

Joseph rushed over and handed him a tablet. "Mr. Smith, this news just broke an hour ago. Take a look."

Taking the tablet, Alex's face turned grim as he read the headline.

"When did this happen?"

"Around three this afternoon."

"Give me your phone!"

With trembling hands, Alex took Joseph's phone and dialed the familiar number.

He prayed the news was fake and that Sharon would answer.

But the cold, mechanical voice on the other end shattered his hopes.
