Chapter 222 When Our Relationship Stabilizes a Bit
Seb's knuckles went white as he gripped the steering wheel, his profile tense.
Sharon turned away, feeling a bitter ache in her chest.
Ever since Seb picked Grace, there was no chance for them anymore.
Seb had saved her, and she was grateful, even started to warm up to him a bit.
But she knew the gap between them was too wide to bridge with just feelings, and she didn't want to go through the heartbreak of watching someone she liked be with someone else again.
"Mr. Smith, thanks, but no thanks."
Since they broke up, she didn't want to owe Seb anything more.
Seb slammed on the brakes and pulled over. He turned to Sharon, his eyes full of restraint.
"Sharon, can you stop being so damn stubborn?"
Sharon's brow furrowed, her voice icy, "Mr. Smith, I told you, it's not necessary. Who's being stubborn here?"
"I'm doing this for your safety!"
"And I told you, I'm perfectly safe at Sophie's."
The car went dead silent, neither willing to back down.
Seb and Sharon locked eyes for a moment, then Seb finally gave in, starting the car again with a cold expression.
They didn't speak again, and the air in the car turned frosty.
Sharon wanted to get out and grab a cab to Sophie's, but Seb's anger kept her quiet.
They stayed silent all the way to Sophie's place. Sharon turned to Seb.
"Mr. Smith, thanks for tonight."
Seb stared straight ahead, his profile cold and indifferent, jaw tight, clearly pissed.
"Huh."
Sharon lowered her eyes, got out with her bag, and as soon as she shut the door, the black Maybach sped off.
It wasn't until Seb's car was out of sight that Sharon turned around. Just as she was about to ring the doorbell, the villa's door swung open, and Sophie rushed out.
Seeing only Sharon, Sophie looked surprised. She took Sharon's bag and asked, "Where's Seb?"
"He left."
Noticing Sharon's downcast look, Sophie raised an eyebrow. "What happened, you two fight?"
"Not exactly, just some tension on the way."
"What kind of tension?"
Sharon gave a quick rundown, and Sophie couldn't help but say, "Seb's right. I never thought Leo could be so twisted. The stuff he did because he liked you, who'd believe it?"
"I don't get it either."
"Alright, don't stress. Just chill for the next few days. When things calm down, I'll help you move your stuff. Why not move in with me? It's pretty lonely in this big villa."
Sharon chuckled at Sophie's words. "Stop showing off. I envy you so much, I wish I could be as rich and bored as you."
They chatted as they walked inside. Sophie led Sharon to the guest room, "Everything's new here. If you need anything else, just holler."
"Sophie, thanks."
Sophie rolled her eyes. "If you keep being so polite, I'll kick you out."
Sharon couldn't help but laugh. "Alright, got it."
"Okay, you've had a rough day. Take a shower and get some rest. Tomorrow we'll go shopping."
After Sophie left, Sharon was about to hit the bathroom when her phone buzzed with a text message.
[Ms. Wright, that photo's online and it's blowing up.]
Sharon opened Facebook and saw the twelfth trending topic was about Grace and Victor. Her eyes turned cold.
She shot back a quick reply, transferred some cash, and then shut her phone, grabbing her clothes and heading to the bathroom.
Meanwhile, Seb was driving home when his phone buzzed. It was Paul.
"Mr. Smith, some marketing account just posted a pic of Miss Hall and Mr. Edwards kissing at a restaurant. They're saying Miss Hall's cheating on you. The internet's going nuts. Want me to handle it?"
Seb's face turned to stone. "Ignore it. Let them deal with their own mess."
He and Grace were done. Whoever she was with now was her problem.
"Got it."
Just as he hung up, his phone rang again. It was Grace. Seb hesitated, then answered.
"Looks like you've made your choice."
There was a pause before Grace's voice, sounding hurt, came through. "Seb, I called to explain. That photo of Victor and me kissing is fake. It was taken from a bad angle by some paparazzo. Victor and I are just friends."
Seb pulled over, feeling a wave of irritation.
"Grace, we're over. Whoever you're with and whatever you're doing, you don't need to explain. I don't care."
"Seb, do you really have no feelings for me at all?"
Grace's voice was tearful, like she couldn't believe Seb didn't love her anymore.
"The person I care about now is Sharon."
"I get it. I won't bother you again."
Seb hung up, started the car again, his face cold.
On the other end, Grace threw her phone against the wall in a fit of rage and collapsed on her bed, crying.
The phone hit the wall with a loud crash and fell to the floor, the screen shattering.
After who knows how long, the screen lit up with an incoming call, Victor's name flashing, the ringtone echoing in the room.
Grace's eyes were swollen. She got up, picked up the phone, took a deep breath, and answered.
"Grace, did you see the trending topic? I was in a meeting."
"Yeah, I saw it."
Her voice was hoarse from crying, her mood low.
"Should we use this chance to go public?"
Grace's grip on the phone tightened. She was silent for a few seconds before speaking, "I don't really want to. I just broke up with Seb. If we go public now, people will say I moved on too fast."
Victor's tone darkened. "So what do you suggest?"
"How about we say the paparazzo took the photo from a misleading angle?"
When Victor didn't respond, Grace frowned.
"Victor, why aren't you saying anything? Do you disagree?"
Victor chuckled. "Do you think I should? You got back with Seb while he was still with Sharon. Didn't worry about people then, so why stress now?"
Victor's voice was filled with anger, his tone icy.
Grace's eyes flashed with impatience. 'How could Victor compare to Seb?' she thought.
But she knew she needed Victor to help her get rid of Sharon.
"Victor, that's not what I meant. I don't want to wrong you. I just want to wait until our relationship is more stable before going public."
