Chapter 234 I Won't Sign This!

But then Alex realized how ridiculous that sounded. 'If I'm really shooting blanks, how the heck is Ava pregnant?'

On the other end, Joseph was waiting, and when Alex didn't say anything, he finally asked, "Mr. Smith, anything else you need?"

Alex, with his deep voice, just said, "Nah."

He was gonna ask Joseph to set up another physical for him, but now he figured it was pointless.

As soon as Alex hung up and headed to the OB-GYN department, Ava came out of the doc's office, grinning ear to ear. "Alex, the doc says the baby's super healthy."

"Cool, check-up's done, let's bounce."

Without even caring about Ava's reaction, Alex turned and walked off. In his mind, just showing up for the prenatal check-up was already pushing it.

Being all lovey-dovey? Yeah, not happening. Ava had nothing, and she wouldn't leave him, even for money.

Ava watched him walk away, her eyes dimming, and she hurried to catch up.

When they hit the parking lot, they bumped into Victor and Grace.

Grace looked pale and kinda out of it. Seeing Alex and Ava, she forced a smile. "Mr. Smith, Ms. Kim, here for a prenatal check-up?"

She glanced at Ava's belly, a hint of mockery in her eyes.

Ava frowned, giving Grace a warning look.

Grace didn't care; Ava wasn't her target anyway.

Victor greeted Alex, then looked at Grace and said softly, "Grace, our appointment's coming up."

Grace nodded, holding his arm. "Okay, let's go."

It took her over a month to get Victor back, and now she was acting all obedient around him. But she could tell Victor was colder than before. He was still nice, but not as patient.

When Grace lost her patience, Victor's attitude would turn icy.

Since Victor hadn't fully calmed down, she had to act all dependent on him.

After they left, Ava couldn't help but mock, "I used to hear how much Victor liked Grace, but now it seems that's not the case."

Alex didn't say anything; his mind was racing about whose kid Sharon was carrying. He didn't care about Ava and Victor's drama.

"Let's go."

Back downstairs, seeing Alex had no intention of getting out of the car, Ava paused.

"Alex, got something to do?"

"Yeah, sudden meeting at the company."

"Alright, will you be back for dinner tonight?"

Alex frowned, looking impatient. "If I come back, I'll call you."

"Okay."

After Ava got out, Alex immediately started the car and headed to the company.

When he got to the office, Joseph was already there.

"Mr. Smith, from my investigation, the kid Ms. Wright is carrying is likely Seb's."

Alex's face turned icy. Even though he and Sharon were divorced, he had suspected something between Sharon and Seb before the split. Now, this confirmed his suspicions.

Alex thought, 'How is this any different from being played for a fool?'

Seeing Alex's stormy face, Joseph kept his head down, not daring to say a word.

He knew the deal. Even though Alex and Sharon were divorced, Alex had been keeping tabs on her. Alex still had feelings for her, even if he was mad as hell.

Now that Sharon was pregnant with Seb's kid, Alex must be losing it.

"Mr. Smith, what should we do next—"

"Get out!"

Joseph didn't need to be told twice. He bolted out of there, and as soon as the door shut, he heard stuff crashing inside.

After lunch, Sharon was chilling on the couch when it hit her, "I took birth control pills, so how am I pregnant?"

She grabbed the pill box and checked the expiration date. They were expired by over a year!

She slapped her forehead. "How could I be so dumb!"

For the next few days, Sharon kept debating whether to keep the baby.

In the end, she decided it wasn't the right time, so she scheduled an abortion.

The surgery was set for a week later.

Since setting the date, Sharon hadn't slept well, feeling kinda down.

If this baby had come during her grad school or research days, she wouldn't have kept it either, 'cause of all the chemicals she was exposed to.

Nights were spent lost in thought.

Finally, the day of the surgery came, and Sharon went to the hospital early.

Seeing a woman come out of the operating room looking pale, Sharon felt a wave of unease and fear.

She instinctively touched her belly, feeling a weird sense of reluctance.

But no matter how she felt, this baby couldn't stay.

Taking a deep breath, Sharon got up to submit the paperwork.

The nurse, seeing she was alone, frowned and asked, "Where are your family members? You need a family member's signature for the surgery."

Sharon thought, "Family?"

She thought of Robert, but if he knew, he'd be even more disappointed and join Karen in scolding her.

"I don't have any family."

"What about relatives? If no one signs, the surgery can't be done."

"Can't I sign it myself?"

"Nope, surgeries carry risks, and someone has to sign."

Sharon hesitated, then dialed Sophie's number.

Sophie showed up in less than half an hour, out of breath and clearly in a hurry.

"Sharon, what the heck is going on? How did you get pregnant? Who's the jerk? I'll kill him!"

Sophie's voice was loud, drawing everyone's attention.

Sharon felt embarrassed. She pulled Sophie aside. "Sophie, keep it down and chill!"

Sophie looked furious. "How can I chill? If I called you out of the blue and said I was at the hospital for an abortion and needed you to sign, would you be calm?"

Sharon was speechless.

They stared at each other for a bit, and finally, Sharon gave in.

"Alright, don't freak out, I'll explain everything."

"If you don't explain clearly today, I'm not signing anything!"
