Chapter 480 Acting Without Thinking
"Mr. Bridges, Mrs. Bridges. Mr. Smith said he won't be seeing any guests today. Please go back."
Kimball's face turned ugly. Seb wasn't just refusing to see guests; he was clearly refusing to see them. He had just seen Damon being led in by a servant.
Forcing a smile, he said, "It's okay, we'll wait here. If Mr. Smith is willing to see us, could you please let us know?"
The servant's expression was cold. "Suit yourselves."
With that, he shut the door.
Karen couldn't help but frown. "He won't see us, so why are we still waiting here? It's freezing cold..."
"Shut up!" Kimball scolded coldly, angrily saying, "If it weren't for your foolish actions, would I be here groveling for Seb's forgiveness? From now on, stay out of Ayla and Leo's business, and don't show up in front of Sharon. Otherwise, we'll get a divorce!"
Karen's face stiffened. She looked at Kimball with anger but didn't dare to speak.
After all, it was indeed her thoughtless actions that implicated Kimball's company.
"Got it." She lowered her eyes, no longer looking at Kimball.
The two waited at the villa's entrance for over two hours before the door finally opened again.
Damon walked out and was surprised to see Kimball. "Uncle Kimball, are you here to see Mr. Smith?"
Kimball was a branch member of the Bridges family. Although they shared the same last name, their relationship was generally distant, and they rarely met except during holidays.
"Yes... I heard about the Bridges Group's collaboration with Silvercrest Group. Are you here to discuss business with Mr. Smith?"
Damon didn't want to reveal too much and nodded. "Yes, I have work to do, so I'll be leaving now."
Kimball quickly stopped him, looking troubled. "Damon, I've never asked you for anything. Can you do me a favor?"
"Uncle Kimball, what's that?"
"It's just... Karen misunderstood that Mr. Smith's girlfriend Sharon was interfering in your cousin Ayla and her husband Leo's marriage, so she caused a scene at Silvercrest Group. Now that she knows the truth, she's very regretful and insisted on coming here to apologize to Mr. Smith and Ms. Roach in person. But Mr. Smith is still angry and won't see us. Can you help us plead with Mr. Smith?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Damon refused directly. "Uncle Kimball, that's a bit much, don't you think? You're pushing me into the fire. Do you think Mr. Smith respects me that much?"
Seeing his displeased expression, Kimball quickly said, "Just tell Mr. Smith, you don't need to plead for us. Just consider it a favor I owe you, okay?"
Damon rolled his eyes. Did he think he was that influential? Asking him to plead with Seb?
"Uncle Kimball, I don't have that ability or influence. You'll have to figure it out yourself." With that, he bypassed Kimball and got into his car to leave.
Watching Damon's car disappear from sight, Kimball's face turned ugly. But he knew that Damon calling him Uncle Kimball was just a formality. There was no way he actually respected him.
Karen snorted coldly. "That Damon has no manners at all. He didn't even greet me. No class!"
Kimball gave her a cold look. "Do you think you're worth his greeting?"
Karen's face turned pale, looking at Kimball in disbelief. "Kimball, what do you mean by that? Why am I not worth it? No matter what, I'm still your wife!"
Kimball said, "Wife? Not for much longer."
"Are you really going to divorce me?" Karen's eyes widened, glaring at Kimball.
Although she was over fifty, she was well-maintained and looked like she was in her thirties.
Initially, Kimball married her not because of her looks but because a fortune teller said Karen would bring him good luck.
In the first two years of their marriage, his career indeed skyrocketed, and his company expanded several times.
But now... because of Karen's stupidity, his company was on the brink of bankruptcy.
Moreover, he had a mistress and was planning to marry her. Karen should step aside.
"We've been married for years. If it weren't for your excessive actions this time, I wouldn't have decided to divorce you. This is all your doing."
Seeing Kimball's ruthless demeanor, Karen was silent for a long time before slowly saying, "Have you thought it through?"
"Of course. The company was almost ruined by you. Keeping you by my side, who knows how many more people you'll offend. I've treated you well these years. Let's part on good terms. I'll give you a million dollars as compensation."
Kimball's serious expression showed he wasn't joking.
Karen finally started to panic. Now, Leo ignored her, and Robert wouldn't take her back. If she lost Kimball, she'd have nothing.
She gritted her teeth and said, "The owner behind Vertex Innovations Group is my son Leo. You'll regret it."
Kimball's eyes showed mockery. "If you were that important to Leo, why didn't he help when you called him?"
He had been standing nearby, hearing their conversation clearly. Leo had no intention of helping his company, even knowing it was Karen's fault.
If he wouldn't help now, how could he expect help in the future?
Seeing Karen speechless, Kimball sneered, "Nothing to say?"
"That's because I argued with him a few days ago. Once he's calmed down, he'll listen to me."
"He kept his company a secret from you for so many years, and you think he'll listen to you? If he did, that company might have gone bankrupt long ago."
"You!" Karen trembled with anger, pointing at Kimball. "Don't go too far!"
Kimball didn't want to argue further and said coldly, "I have a meeting later. You wait here. When Mr. Smith is willing to see you, then you can go back."
With that, Kimball turned and left.
Shortly after he left, Karen also left.
She went straight to find Leo, hoping he would help Kimball's company.
However, Leo's attitude remained the same, with no intention of getting involved.
Karen looked disappointed. "Leo, I raised you with great effort. If it weren't for me, would you be where you are today? I'm just asking you to help me once, and you're so heartless. How did I raise such an ungrateful son!"
Leo looked at her expressionlessly. "Mom, you went to Sharon and caused trouble for no reason, and you won't admit you were wrong. Why should I help you?"
Seeing he was still defending Sharon, Karen was so angry her chest hurt.
"If I apologize to Sharon, will you help Kimball's company?"
