Chapter 27 No Going Back
Alex's brow furrowed, his eyes shifting from confusion to shock and disbelief.
Alex said, "Sharon, as long as you forgive me, all my money is yours. You can buy whatever you want. But compared to those material things, shouldn't you care more about my love for you?"
Sharon couldn't help but laugh. "I did care about your love once, but in the end, all I got was your betrayal. You weren't even willing to spend a bit of money or effort on me. How can I believe you truly love me?"
Now, Sharon no longer craved Alex's love. Since she had decided to divorce, she naturally hoped to get more out of it. After all, jewelry and such were considered personal property and wouldn't be divided in the divorce.
Seeing the sarcasm in Sharon's eyes, Alex pressed his lips tightly together, a hint of sadness appearing in his eyes. He was lost in thought.
Sharon didn't say anything more to him and directly pressed the elevator button to leave.
Given Alex's personality, he would soon realize this.
After all, whether Alex still had feelings for her or not, they couldn't divorce at this stage. Otherwise, his reputation would be ruined, and Tyler would certainly be disappointed in him.
After grabbing a burger, Sharon headed back to the apartment complex, only to find that Alex had already left. Unfazed, Sharon went back home, tuned into some reality TV, cleaned up, and hit the sack.
The weekend passed by unnoticed, and soon it was Monday again.
As soon as Sharon walked into the R&D department, she found a bouquet of fiery red roses on her desk, along with a Tiffany jewelry box.
She approached the desk, picked up the card on the roses, and opened it.
[Sharon, from the moment I first saw you, I felt you were like a burning rose, with flames reaching my heart. After thinking it over last night, I've decided to pursue you again. Please give me a chance.]
It was signed with a drawing of an arrow through a heart: "Yours forever, Alex."
Sharon put the card in her bag and opened the jewelry box next to it. It was a dazzling diamond bracelet.
Betty couldn't help but step forward, her eyes filled with envy. "Sharon, who sent this? Your suitor? I remember this bracelet costs millions of dollars!"
Sharon nodded. "Yes."
Betty said, "Then your suitor must be very wealthy. I remember the meaning of this bracelet is to love only you forever. It seems he really likes you."
A barely noticeable hint of sarcasm flashed in Sharon's eyes as she put the bracelet back in the box.
"Maybe," Sharon replied.
Seeing that Sharon didn't seem too happy, Betty felt it was odd but didn't ask further.
Over time, she had come to understand that while Sharon appeared gentle and easygoing on the surface, she wouldn't talk about things she didn't want to discuss.
Moreover, their relationship hadn't reached the level of complete openness.
Just as Sharon was closing the jewelry box, Irene happened to walk by and caught a glimpse of the diamond bracelet, her eyes filled with jealousy.
However, after the lesson at the bar, Irene didn't plan to confront Sharon directly and walked away.
In the evening, as Sharon was leaving the office, she saw Alex waiting not far away.
She pursed her lips slightly and stopped to look at him.
As soon as Alex saw her, he quickly walked over and said, "Sharon, let's have dinner together tonight."
Sharon lowered her eyes, her hands tightening slightly.
After a long moment, she finally looked up, her face showing a calm expression as she said, "Okay."
Hearing her affirmative response, Alex breathed a sigh of relief, a joyful smile spreading across his face. "I've reserved your favorite restaurant, but if you want to go somewhere else tonight, we can."
Sharon shook her head. "No need. That restaurant is fine."
As Sharon approached the car, Alex suddenly quickened his pace and opened the passenger door.
Sharon thought, 'Since we got married, Alex has been so busy with work that we rarely have the chance to dine out alone. It's ironic that after I discovered his affair, he suddenly has time to accompany me.'
Thinking of this, a hint of sarcasm flashed in Sharon's eyes.
Once she was seated in the car, Alex closed the passenger door.
After walking around the car and getting into the driver's seat, Alex casually asked, "Didn't you like the bracelet I sent you today? Why aren't you wearing it?"
Sharon replied, "It's nice, but it's inconvenient to wear during experiments."
Alex was silent for a moment before he couldn't help but say, "Sharon, I don't oppose you working, but doing experiments is too exhausting. You used to stay up all night doing experiments in college, and I don't want you to be so tired. I'll have my secretary arrange other work for you, okay?"
Most importantly, he had found out that Seb's Silvercrest Group had invested in Medica Care International Pharmaceuticals, and Seb had become a shareholder.
Although Sharon claimed she had nothing to do with Seb, Alex instinctively wanted to avoid more contact between Seb and Sharon.
His relationship with Ava had spiraled out of control because they spent too much time together. He didn't want this to happen between Sharon and Seb.
Sharon frowned, looking at him with dissatisfaction. "This is the work I love. No matter how tiring or hard it is, I enjoy it. I hope you can respect my decision."
Alex's hands gripped the steering wheel tightly. Sharon's attitude towards him seemed to have softened a bit, and if they argued over this, their relationship might deteriorate again.
Alex conceded, saying, "Alright, have it your way. Anyway, if you ever want to quit, just do it. I can support you."
Sharon smiled slightly but didn't respond.
She thought, 'Not only can he support me, but he's also supporting a mistress outside, isn't he? He can probably support ten more mistresses if he wants to. But he forgets that the money they spend is our joint marital property. I'll account for every penny and take it all.'
When they arrived at the restaurant, Sharon found it empty except for the two of them and looked surprised. "You booked the whole place?"
Alex replied, "Yes, you don't like noisy places, do you?"
Sharon said, "I'm used to it now; there's no need to go to such trouble."
Alex gazed at her, his eyes full of sincerity. "Sharon, we missed out on so much because of my busy work. From now on, I'll make up for the ceremony you deserve."
His gaze was filled with love and tenderness, as if they were still in the throes of a passionate romance.
A sudden pain shot through Sharon's heart, and she quickly looked away, trying to suppress the tears welling up in her eyes.
If he had said this before his affair, it might have moved her. Now, it only left an endless bitterness. From the moment he betrayed her, they could never go back to the past.
